Week One
30 in Competition

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Sol who speaks up first this time.

“Last night, Lune and I were finally able to get some answers. Or, at least, something we can do to help. The core’s still experiencing fluctuations and some instability, but we’ve figured out a place some of it might be coming from.”

They stop, excitedly holding up a scroll.

“This core is connected to several worlds out there. It’s the heart of the universe and everything that happens here can be affected by the outside, and can affect the worlds you come from. We found somewhere that seems to have a source of darkness lurking around…if we find it and clear the corruption, we can help stabilize the core a little more and help protect yourselves while you’re here.”

With that, they seem to lose steam just a little, looking back at Lune for a moment before nodding.

“So, uh…we were able to open a gateway for you to this world. Checking it out might help us pinpoint the source and get this done faster, so…leave whenever you’re ready. There’ll be another gate on the other side to bring you back here.”

That seems to be it, though Sol looks back to Lune again. “Anything else?”

"Look after one another," they repeat again. "And do not believe it is possible to be over-cautious."

The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.

In addition, as the week goes on, partners will find that a simple touch (even accidental) may incite the bond between them to grow stronger for a moment. They will experience a swap of memories through their connection, taking a moment to see a piece of their partner's past without any control over what exactly is being shared.

Welcome to your week one mingle! Please note that as of this week, murder proposals are open. CYOA sign-ups are also live, and will close at Tuesday, 8 AM PST. They will be running on Tuesday afternoon and evening, so please be mindful of your own availability!

[ she nods her head and then moves on, walking.... she points at a shawl. ]

[ this one looks big enough, so he'll step forward to touch it, testing the weight. after a moment's consideration, he pulls it into both hands, nodding. ]

[ there's a small smile, before she turns to regard the boutique. ]

Now... chains or cords...

They should be gold.

[ just in case she forgot. he's setting about folding the shawl as he trails behind namine slowly. ]

...Ribbon could work, too.

Gold. Got it.

[ maybe a necklace would work? she walks over to the jewelry first to see if there's anything that might fit the preferred description. ]

Is any of this okay?

[ hm... he looks uncertain about this. ]

They might be too thin...?

[ it might help if he told her what it was for but noooo ]

but she taps her chin. ]

Mm... okay, let's look somewhere else.

[ he said ribbons might be okay, so she'll search for those next. ]

It needs to be sturdy.

[ is that. all he's going to offer here, or ]

try to find a sturdy gold ribbon

for whatever fashion project he's doing ]

[ why can't he just explain like a normal person

but he'll follow her lead here, because he doesn't know the first thing about clothes or fabric. that was sada's area of expertise, he's just there to be the unwilling model.

he'll test everything namine suggests though, to make sure it can hold tsuru's weight. ]

[ and she'll hand everything dutifully over to him. ]

There's probably other accessories we can try out too. I've seen... chain-like belts?

A belt...

[ compared to ribbon and necklaces, belts are definitely heavier, so maybe... ]

Great, let's find one that might work.

[ specifically a gold one that's more chain and/or chord like... but onward again, to where they can find those. ]

[ nod. he should probably mention he's grateful for namine's help with this, but he doesn't - he just follows like a lost puppy since she seems to know her way around ]

It doesn't need to be fancy.

[ tsuru would probably prefer it but he'll have to deal with whatever they find ]

[ at least she doesn't seem to mind?

but even if they haven't spoken, it was pretty obvious during the trial that he seemed to be friends with tsurumaru. so this is the least she can do. ]

Well, we'll do our best before we have to settle.

[ good. tsuru will want the fanciest one, probably, but as long as it's gold, ookurikara will be satisfied. white and gold were always his colors. ]

You know where to look?

No... but it shouldn't take too long to find them, I think.

[ she has learned that, for the most part, accessories seem to be grouped closer together. ]

[ good! except ookurikara can't be bothered to figure out how to navigate this place, so he'll continue following namine... though he does find some belts! just not. chains. so maybe the right ones are close. ]

[ she'll make a mental note of where those belts are just in case they can't find what they're looking for. ]

Are you working on something?

[ he hesitates to answer, but eventually: ]

I'm wrapping the sword.

[ it's better than carrying the pieces home in a pile. ]

[ ... oh

she'll just nod. ]

Then let's make sure we pick out a really nice chain.

[ kara is relieved when she doesn't question him more than that. and he doesn't respond immediately, because he's found the chain belts, but... there are a lot more than he expected. it's a little overwhelming, when his taste is the polar opposite of tsurumaru's. ]

Which one...?

[ hELP ]

[ she'll pick up one of them, holding it in her hand and then handing it over to kara. ]

Does it feel okay?

[ she's already reaching for another one, that's slightly thinner. ]

[ he takes this first chain, weighing it in his hand and setting it against the shawl they'd found. it's... almost right. something's off, but kara couldn't say what, so he'll hold onto it for now. ]

It's... fine.

[ but he wants to see if something better will turn up before he commits. ]

[ hmm, he didn't sound too excited...

she'll hand over the second chain while she goes to check out some others. ]
