Week One
30 in Competition

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Sol who speaks up first this time.

“Last night, Lune and I were finally able to get some answers. Or, at least, something we can do to help. The core’s still experiencing fluctuations and some instability, but we’ve figured out a place some of it might be coming from.”

They stop, excitedly holding up a scroll.

“This core is connected to several worlds out there. It’s the heart of the universe and everything that happens here can be affected by the outside, and can affect the worlds you come from. We found somewhere that seems to have a source of darkness lurking around…if we find it and clear the corruption, we can help stabilize the core a little more and help protect yourselves while you’re here.”

With that, they seem to lose steam just a little, looking back at Lune for a moment before nodding.

“So, uh…we were able to open a gateway for you to this world. Checking it out might help us pinpoint the source and get this done faster, so…leave whenever you’re ready. There’ll be another gate on the other side to bring you back here.”

That seems to be it, though Sol looks back to Lune again. “Anything else?”

"Look after one another," they repeat again. "And do not believe it is possible to be over-cautious."

The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.

In addition, as the week goes on, partners will find that a simple touch (even accidental) may incite the bond between them to grow stronger for a moment. They will experience a swap of memories through their connection, taking a moment to see a piece of their partner's past without any control over what exactly is being shared.

[He hates this but he also doesn't want to be responsible for Four dying so. Alright.

He tosses this tiny little ball of fire-- and misses. Though now there's a fire between them and the tiger.]

Do something, lass!

[ I'M CRYING THEY GONNA SET THIS AREA ON FIRE

uh oh ]

I don't have any kind of power to stop something like this! We can't let the fire spread either—

[ This is too much. Her luck is even worse than usual.

Four stops because it looks like the tiger isn't going to try to go through the fire because it's smart. It's not coming, but it hasn't gone yet. ]

If only I had my usual strength, I'd just fight it.

[omegathree]

[They've technically stopped the tiger FOR NOW. But god this poor area??]

-- We could just fight it regularly. Do you have a weapon on you?

[Val takes out a sword and brandishes it.]

[forefall]

[ Maybe the fire will put itself out somehow??? Magic fire can do that maybe. ]

It's made for hand-to-hand combat. I'm not sure how good it will do me here.

[ The bracer is on her left hand, but without her usual heightened strength and agility, she's at a slight disadvantage. ]

... But I'll try.

[omegathree]

Brace yourself.

[The fire is still there, the tiger is still there.

Val kicks some dirt over some of the fire, but it's still spreading about the area.

Time to fight a tiger! He's charging in with sword at the ready.]

[forefall]

[ Sorry, Val. She's trusting(?) him to handle the tiger for the most part while she tries to keep the fire manageable with dirt and stomping it where it's smallest.

Out, fire, out—

But she's glancing over to check on him.

The tiger watches until Val is in range, and then it pounces, claws out. ]

[omegathree]

[The good news is that even without most of his supernatural strength, he still has hundreds of years of battle experience.

As soon as it lunges, he drops to the ground and stabs it in its exposed belly.

Now he's on the ground and the tiger is over him. He'll make an attempt to roll and get back up.]

[forefall]

[ hooray for stabbing it in the stomach but not hooray for having the tiger over you??

The tiger isn't completely dead yet, and it roars in its pain. Four dashes over to help kick it off, putting as much strength as she can in it. Even without her usual strength, her skills with hand-to-hand are still there, and her foot makes a solid impact.

That combined with Val's roll should help get him free. ]

I think that's enough! I don't think the tiger will come after us anymore.

[ Hopefully.

It's wounded and dying. Maybe it should be taken out of its misery. ]

[omegathree]

[He feels kind of odd just leaving it here to die slowly. In the middle of a fight he'd fully take out his target. To leave them bleeding this way-- it's cruel. Especially when it could be ended simply.]

There's no way it'll survive this. We should end it cleanly.

[forefall]

I'll leave it to you.

[ He's the one with the more effective weapon. ]

[omegathree]

[It's true. The sword will be far more effective than a claw will be.

So he raises his sword and goes straight for the throat.

The action isn't satisfying, but at least the tiger is out of its misery and it's no longer a danger.

He's come out of this encounter with a few scratches on his arms, but the'll probably heal up eventually.]

[forefall]

... Thank you.

[ The fire is mostly out but not completely. Four goes over and kicks some more dirt onto it. ]

That was...

[ No, she doesn't actually know how to describe what just happened, so she just trails off. ]

[omegathree]

[He has no idea what he's being thanked for, but he'll just skip right over that, joining her in smothering the fire.

The important bit-]

Try to keep your distance from the predatory animals here. Don't end up in danger you could avoid.

[forefall]

[ She frowns. ]

I never want to be in danger. [ She sounds kind of petulant. ] That wasn't my aim. It's only what ended up happening.

[ As if that makes this any better. ]

[That tone just makes him think of one of his many teenagers at home.]

Now you have the experience to tell you that was dangerous. Make sure you use it the next time you explore.

I know what's dangerous!

[ Rude?? She ran because she knew!!! She has a sense of self-preservation unlike half the people here.

She's very teenager. ]

[He kind of ignores the teenager-ness of it all. It's very familiar.]
