Week One
30 in Competition

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Sol who speaks up first this time.

“Last night, Lune and I were finally able to get some answers. Or, at least, something we can do to help. The core’s still experiencing fluctuations and some instability, but we’ve figured out a place some of it might be coming from.”

They stop, excitedly holding up a scroll.

“This core is connected to several worlds out there. It’s the heart of the universe and everything that happens here can be affected by the outside, and can affect the worlds you come from. We found somewhere that seems to have a source of darkness lurking around…if we find it and clear the corruption, we can help stabilize the core a little more and help protect yourselves while you’re here.”

With that, they seem to lose steam just a little, looking back at Lune for a moment before nodding.

“So, uh…we were able to open a gateway for you to this world. Checking it out might help us pinpoint the source and get this done faster, so…leave whenever you’re ready. There’ll be another gate on the other side to bring you back here.”

That seems to be it, though Sol looks back to Lune again. “Anything else?”

"Look after one another," they repeat again. "And do not believe it is possible to be over-cautious."

The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.

In addition, as the week goes on, partners will find that a simple touch (even accidental) may incite the bond between them to grow stronger for a moment. They will experience a swap of memories through their connection, taking a moment to see a piece of their partner's past without any control over what exactly is being shared.

[He takes the cards, shuffling them again and dealing a small hand of cards for each of them.]

Okay. In this game, you start with seven cards. You can only lay down cards in your hand when you have four of a kind, but to play the game you have to ask the other player if they have a number you're looking for. If they do, they have to give you all of their cards with that number. If not, you draw from the pile.

Easy, right?

[whitewalls]

Mmhm! That sounds a lot easier to keep up with.

[ she'll pick up the cards he gave her ]

How do you win?

You get rid of all of the cards in your hand. Since you start out with seven, and you can only get rid of them when you have four of the same kind in your hand, it takes some time.

[whitewalls]

Alright, I understand. Let's start.

[ she nods determinedly. ]

[twinsightful]

[A grin. Naminé's kind of precious, it's fine.]

Let's see...any twos?

[whitewalls]

[ and, quite cheerfully, ]

Go fish!

Any sevens?

[twinsightful]

[He draws a card from the pile!

...and immediately forks it over because it's a seven =\]

Threes? [...] If you've never played games like these, what did you do to entertain yourself?

[Is he trying this line of questioning again? Yes.]

[whitewalls]

[ she hands a three over. ]

Um... nines?

[ ... ]

I just had a job that kept me busy.

[twinsightful]

Go fish. [He works on organizing his cards in his hand.] ...was it a job you actually wanted?

[He's had a conversation with someone recently about "work", he still doesn't always get it.]

[whitewalls]

[ she'll take another card. ]

... I guess I did, because it was a job that only I could do.

[twinsightful]

Is that job finished now? Maybe you can get a new one, or do something different.

[whitewalls]

It's finished.

[ she stares at her hand. ]

I'm not sure what I would do next.

[twinsightful]

...what makes you happy, Naminé?

[whitewalls]

[ she continues staring at her hand ]

Being with others.

[ it's said quietly ]

[twinsightful]

[Oh. That's...

...hm.]

...there are things you can do that allow you to be around others. [Hard to relate, but sort of getting it.] Our club back home allowed us to consistently be around other people even if at first it was difficult. And while I'm not saying that's the only way, finding common ground or providing a service to others is the easiest way.

[whitewalls]

I think people tend to be careful around me.

[ she's very small, and very quiet, and she is fully aware a lot of people tend to tiptoe around her because of it. ]

[twinsightful]

[?]

Because you appear diminutive by nature? [He's. Thinking.]

[whitewalls]

I guess...

[ she changes her mind and decides not to say what she was about to. ]

Ah. [A look at his cards.] Fives?

[He's Debating elaborating on a thought he has.]

[whitewalls]

[ she hands over a five. ]

Um... kings?

[twinsightful]

Go fish. [And while she does that...]

...there's a friend at home. We've only known each other for a short time, but people underestimate him all the time because he's very small and very cute and likes cute things. People don't like to upset him and people will bend to his whims to ensure he's protected and not involved in things.

However, he's also one of the strongest and scariest people I know. [So that is to say, how does he know Naminé isn't secretly a badass?] I think very little of people who underestimate people simply because of that.

[whitewalls]

... he sounds like a really interesting person.

[ she's trying to imagine this, and he sounds like he would get along well in the kh group, honestly. ]

Is he in your club?

[ she knows what kaoru was telling her but she is not going to verbally acknowledge it at this very moment ]

[twinsightful]

[Of course she's not.]

Yeah, he's actually the oldest of us. He's in his first year of university now but he and Mori-senpai would still come down to the high school campus for club activities. It was sort of like they'd never graduated. [...] Honey-senpai's great. He's one of the people I'd trust the most for advice, too.

[whitewalls]

I hope you get to see him again soon... and all of the others.

But it's good that they still come over. They really do care about you all.

[twinsightful]

I do, too. It would be tragic to die here without a way to go back. [It's casually said because he's actually afraid that'll be the case.]

...they're like family to us. All of them. It's why we're all still together. But it still took time. [That is to say, people caring about other people is a time-consuming effort.]
