Week Five: Trial

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.
The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with the glass boxes perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Shirasu, Lili, Miki and Minato's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.
Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. It's only when everyone has gathered that Sol speaks first.
"Nine hours. Don't forget."
They stop, glancing at Lune and gesturing for them to say their piece.
"Face the truth directly, and don't turn away from what you may find."

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the fifth trial!
We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.
As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.
Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.
If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

EXECUTION;
As the morning rolls in, a quiet unsteady feeling fills the air of the village. The light around Four's confinements remains faint, keeping its power in tact for a bit longer.
The moment the sun reaches the highest point in the sky, a faint bell chimes and all will feel compelled to return to the main meeting hall.
When all are gathered, Lune and Sol will enter the room escorting Four. The budding corruption slowly seeps from her as the Signs bring her to the front of the crowd.
Stepping aside, Sol leaves Lune to speak.
"On this day, we deliver Four to a realm where the darkness cannot touch her before it rots further. In this case... I have volunteered to complete this task.
My dear Four, if you would step forward."
Even if it's phrased as a gentle request, Four will find herself without much choice as the light that encased her home will encourage her limbs forward if she does not comply.
CLEANSING: FOUR;
no subject
Her eyes, dark with all her turbulent emotions, lock on Lune. ]
How can you still call me dear at a time like this?
[ Her words come cold and short, each dropping from her lips like chips of ice. ]
no subject
[Lune will walk forward to her, expression unreadable beneath the hood. It may be a blessing - they'd hate to show hesitation in a time like this.
A hand extends to her, holding a single red camellia for her to take.]
You completed the duty I bestowed upon you to the end - and for that you have my gratitude, and my sincere apology.
no subject
Are you truly thankful? Are you truly sorry? [ She's full of doubt. ] What meaning am I supposed to take from this?
[ Her hand reaches out, almost as if against her own will, because there's a small part of her that wants to believe, as it always has, in what Lune has said to her, even as she's always wondered if it's folly. ]
Do you still think the same of me? When you told me why you chose me?
no subject
[They mean every word and wait for her to take the camellia - before their hand extends out to press gently against the locks of her hair, only very lightly twining locks between their fingers.]
You have only ever endeavored to do your best for others, and yourself - have you not?
[There is a soft pause, before Lune speaks again, more quietly.]
I had not always understood what that meant... and I was not always able to see the extent of what you suffered through.
Perhaps in another time, I would have been able to grant the safety you seek sooner.
no subject
This is where my best led me.
[ Curling her fingers around the flower's stem, she lets her hand drop to her side. ]
There's no safety for me, here or anywhere else, and I doubt my suffering will end even when you kill me.
no subject
Perhaps not in this life, perhaps not in the next if you do not believe it possible - but in another life, I hope that you are able to find the shelter and care that you seek. That you have earned.
[Lune's other hand reaches out to lightly brush against the back of hers, his tone growing warmer.]
Even when you were fearful - you always took my hand. Thank you for that.
[A shame, that it wasn't enough.]
May I ask you to close your eyes?
no subject
[ As if her anger would dissipate with her impending doom, as if she wouldn't remember what didn't get solved, as if she wouldn't point out how everyone fucking sucks in her dying moments. ]
You told me you'd stay by my side if that's what I wanted, but—
[ Does she want to be wrong? Does she want Lune's warmth? She shakes her head. ]
I should have expected it to end this way. It's so stupid.
[ Her voice becomes soft and scared. She's always been afraid to die.
She closes her eyes. ]
no subject
[It's a brief moment where Lune will lean down, their hood coming closer to Four's head. Even those who bother to draw nearer to the stage will only hear the faintest murmur of something said to her.
And then a moment where the hood dips down just a bit more, as the mouth hidden beneath presses the briefest of kisses to her forehead.
Before Four dies, she'll receive a memory.
In her mind's eye and heart, she'll feel ready to share a happy time with her loved ones. A moment where she feels entirely cared for and doted on, with nothing but warmth awaiting her.
She had told Lune her heart's greatest treasure, after all.
In the seconds after, while the emotion still lingers, Lune will conjure a sword in their hand to impale her through the head - through the eye socket, cutting precisely into her skull to end her life as instantaneously as possible.]
no subject
Her heart's greatest treasure has never been real, but if this one moment, this one memory before her death could be—
Tears collect along her eyelashes and fall just as the sword pierces her through the eye, a smile almost finding its way to her lips in time. She chokes on an unvoiced scream just as the blade hits her brain.
Four is dead. ]
CLEANSING: SAIX;
Surrounding Saix, these shadowed figures circle him and begin to strike, the power of darkness fueling them. The claymores land blow after blow, the corruption beginning to seep into Saix's bones and settle into his core. Rage, jealousy, and anger course through him and overwhelm him. His eyes glow a faint yellow as he stares out toward the group, a hand reaching forward to try and touch someone close by.
Which each new strike, his body begins to disintegrate, black wisps of shadows rising from the earth, but as the darkness grows larger a single vortex opens beneath him. Consumed by the corruption, and no longer protected by light, all Berserkers and Saix's remains are pulled under, disappearing from sight and leaving behind one small, ripe banana.]
AFTERMATH;
Shess, Axel, Kaoru, and Xion in particular will find themselves called toward the blackness, their most negative and repulsive emotions brought to the forefront of their mind. Every vice of hatred, jealousy, contempt, beckoning them as their hearts are vulnerable without their partners -
Until a single light seems to be cast from above, brought into the very center of the darkness, and when the blinding nature of it clears, the bodies of the victims are gone, leaving only Sol and Lune. A light encases all on the main platform, protecting them from further temptation until the glow dims into nothing.
Sol speaks next:]
Without bonds, hearts are vulnerable to a great darkness. But there's always a light within reach. Your actions have ensured this light will save more of your own this week.
[Lune speaks up as well, even though the usual smiling tone of his voice isn't as present.]
Our time together becomes more limited with each day that passes. Will you cherish each moment? Even as not all are meant to shine - I hope that you will share your lives with others.
[Axel and Shess are now partnered. Xion and Kaoru are now partnered. With that, both NPCs take their leave, but the lanterns continue to float peacefully if others wish to speak with them.
Peace returns to the village, if only for so long.]
no subject
when all is said and done, she just takes her leave without hesitation. ]
no subject
bye now.]
