The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

And what's past the gates? Where are we?

I'm not sure, but there's nothing useful to me here. Even if I were to write a letter, it wouldn't have any way of leaving if we can't open these gates. An option is to try smoke signals later, if there's a chance they can be seen by someone else.

[a gesture back to the gates]

Smoke signals! [ Akane sounds pleasantly amused by the idea. Like, genuinely charmed by it in the least condescending way possible! ] How old fashioned!

[ hmm. ]

It's not like escape is meant to be easy, you know...! This is already odd!

It's a good idea, since there's no cell phone signal or wi-fi or anything.

Going under would mean having to dig and get all dirty... I guess it would be worth it, but... Going over sounds tiring, and I might snag my tights on something...

[ And she's not even sure how to approach the idea of going through. ]

To be honest, I'd feel better sending some stupid brute overhead than someone like you. [a cute girl!] We can try to tunnel if we can't find a simpler way over.

[specialdog]

I like that plan more, too! [ Now where's a good sacrificial stupid brute? ]

I want to get out of here quick, but at least we don't have to rush. There's food and shelter and everything. It's a nice enough place to be stuck in, in the meantime.

[coastal]

[WHAT]

Eh? You can't be serious....

You don't want to go home?!

That's not what I mean. I just mean - we're not in any immediate danger. So we can all work on getting out together without panicking.

[coastal]

All of us here should be working together. I'm sure everyone will agree that it's the smartest way to try and get out of this place.

[ But, Akane gives a pretty casual bow that is really closer to just a nod because who cares they're both just teenagers. ]

I'm Akane Shinjou. Even if we know each others names from the scrolls, it's good to be able to put a voice to the name.

The situation is odd.... It's not the usual kidnapping situation - what purpose would there be in all of us being allowed to roam free? To have access to weapons?

However there's also no guards to monitor our behavior, unless one of them was part of our number and is pretending that they do not know more.

[she tilts her head]

That's what I think would be more likely.

[specialdog]

The weapons part is pretty scary, but...

[ hmm... ]

That's a little scary to think about. Someone acting, like that.

[coastal]

It's not for sure but... be careful.

[she frowns]

Young girls are usually taken advantage of in situations like this - so just be on your guard!

[ although she sounds pretty unsure. how to even be on your guard in a situation like this??? ]

That's right. I'm from a safe and peaceful place. Tsutsujidai, in Japan.

I'm relieved that you're from such a safe place... It's very important to return you home, then.

Kouka...? That's in the Shiga prefecture, right? I don't think that's too far...

[ i mean, over all, Japan is pretty small... ]

Kouka is the kingdom bordered by Sei and Xing to the south.

[ well, Lili's way of speaking and her clothes kind of gave it away, but. ]

... We're from such different places that I don't think getting past this gate would help to get us home.

What's that supposed to mean....

[presumably lili knows a few other kingdom since her tribe does the most trade but

it's not like she has a world map? she hasn't quite figured out the rest]
