The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

How long has this place existed? And why is it gated?

[cyclists]

I don't know how long it's been here. It's pretty knew, maybe only a few weeks old. And it's gated because there are things you're not ready for. But they'll unlock soon.

[omegathree]

What kinds of things are out there?

And why were my powers overwritten by the ones on the scrolls?

[cyclists]

Things that will help you. Or they should help you. It wasn't just your powers either. Everyone's powers have been cancelled out to give you something different.

Why did you think that was a good idea? We're familiar with what we already know.

This will take some adjustment.

[A lot of adjustment in some cases, actually.]

[cyclists]

[And now Sol just sounds annoyed.]

It. Was. The. Universe. Not. Us.

[omegathree]

[So maybe somebody else would be a bit more suspicious of this, but also Val just nods his head.]

What a difficult part of the universe.

[cyclists]

Seriously...[Sol isn't too thrilled either.] But you can learn to do a lot with what they gave you. Just practice.

[omegathree]

I suppose that makes the two of you researchers? Or astronauts if neither of you are from here. Both?

[He completely skips over the idea of using what it gave him.]

[cyclists]

Researchers sounds about right. I don't know about astronauts though. [...] What exactly is an astronaut anyway?

[omegathree]

It's somebody who leaves their planet and travels through space.

[So that's not the official definition of it, but as far as Val is concerned that's what it sounds like to him.]

Are either of you from here?

[cyclists]

Oh. [Something about that definition sits with them for a moment and they seem to be pondering.]

We're from different places.

[omegathree]

Are you staying together somewhere? This is the first time we've seen you and you said you've been here for weeks.

[cyclists]

We're staying in the same place, but not together. We need to be somewhere else.

[omegathree]

So you're from to different places originally and you aren't staying together.

Is it because you're observing different things about the core?

[cyclists]

Yes. We have our own guidelines we're following but the universe hasn't told us everything yet. That's all. It will soon.

[omegathree]

What are you watching for?

And how soon do you think it'll be?

[cyclists]

[A shrug. Unfortunately that's the only answer Valvatorez will get, since it's half "I don't know" and half "don't worry about it for right now."]

[omegathree]

[He sighs a bit, but at least that's a little more than he knew before.]

Did you come here by choice, or did this place bring you along as well?

[cyclists]

We were brought here and asked to stay here and monitor the proceedings of the choice.

[omegathree]

Asked by the universe? I've never heard of one so talkative.

[cyclists]

Neither have I before this. You can understand now why we don't have all of our answers.

[omegathree]

It's... unfortunate, but I do.

Then to finding answers and letting us leave.

[cyclists]

[A nod of agreement]

If we work together, it'll be faster. Thanks for being patient with us.
