Week Zero

The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

If we're able to escape by tree, would you come back, finish your ice cream, and then leave?

Yeah, probably.

[ priorities. ]

We'd have to come back to get everyone else anyway, right?

[ SURE MAKE IT SOUND REASONABLE ]

[ It does sound reasonable, and it makes Minato smile slightly to hear it put like that. ]

You're right. If we can make it out, we'll come back and let everybody know. Maybe pack what we can and have ice cream for the journey.

[leaberator]

Now you're talking my language. Ice-cream and escape both? We're gonna be livin' the dream.

[ this is not going to work just by climbing a tree, but it's whatever, they're gonna try and do it anyway ]

[compendiem]

[ Minato is full of bad ideas, and he'll keep trying until they find a way. ]

Sounds like a plan, right? Between that and a forest fire, something will work. Let's get going.

[leaberator]

Sure. I'll follow your lead.

[ and he does, at a leisurely pace, because he is at least mildly aware there is a very high chance neither of those plans are gonna work ]

[ Minato will take the vote of confidence regardless, making sure that ice cream gets stuck back in the fridge if Lea doesn't do it himself, because melted ice cream is just sad. He also takes a coffee mug.

Off to the woods... Having spent the time running around everywhere, at least Minato's familiar where to go and how to get there... with only a little detour by the koi pond to grab a cup of water, just in case.

And then!! The gate. Which method should they try first? ]

[leaberator]

[ Lea answers without being asked by anything but the meta text once they're there, after trying real hard not to lose his shit laughing at Minato filling a cup of water at the pond like that would really make a difference if things go south: ]

Alright. You want a boost, or do you want me to try and just lift you up to the closest branch?

[ honestly, he doesn't look like he could lift anyone up at all, the twig ]

[compendiem]

[ Hey, watch this cup of pond water make a difference, somehow.

Also Minato's going to make Lea work his ass off, this is what he gets for offering to help Minato ]

If you could give me a boost... and try and throw me up as high as you can... [ That way, Minato wouldn't have to climb as much, either. ]

[leaberator]

[ that's... an idea. minato sure is full of those ]

Sure. You gonna be able to catch yourself?

[ he has. to ask. so he doesn't throw him headfirst into a branch ]

[compendiem]

...I hope so.

[ He sure hopes so!!! He has no idea, and doesn't want to promise what he can't, so he will deal with the consequences as they come instead of trying to head them off. ]

You ready?

[leaberator]

Shouldn't I be the one asking you that?

[ especially with that lackluster answer about his climbing ability? but he goes ahead and picks up Minato without further ado-- in a surprisingly sturdy manner, because all the manhandling of children has made him pretty good at it somehow. ]

Alright, when you're ready, I'mma count to three, alright?

[ this is a terrible plan. ]

[compendiem]

Alright.

[ It's a great plan and Minato has the utmost confidence in Lea's throwing abilities, even if he's less than confident about his catching and climbing ones. He's done a lot of stairs in the past several months, but it's arm strength that he needs now, waiting for Lea to count up to three while he has his arms raised up as high as they'll go.

Can he catch the branch? Powers that be say yes. Except the branch immediately snaps under his weight, so head's up. ]

[leaberator]

[ Heads are, in fact, up when the branch snaps, and unfortunately for Lea yet fortunately for Minato, his first reflex is to attempt to catch the falling teen and break his fall. The unfortunate part is that he was not at all ready for such a feat, so he ends up breaking his fall with just his body, both of them sprawling on the ground underneath a tree as they have both, indeed, died.

again.

or more accurately Lea's corpse is wheezing underneath Minato and the branch that fell on top of both of them to add insult to injury. ]

...... so that went great.

[ Oof, that didn't go according to plan, but Minato isn't very surprised that happened, either. At the very least, he rolls off Lea the moment the world stops spinning and he's able to get his bearings, and also picks that branch up too. This gets stuck in his back pocket. ]

Here...

[ A hand to help Lea up ]

[leaberator]

[ no he's staying on the ground a bit. he likes the ground. the ground is his friend.

which is to say he heaves out a long-suffering sigh before taking the hand to help himself sit up but doesn't try to get up further ]

I hadn't considered weak trees to be our potential downfall, there. [ ... and, okay, he has to ask: ] Why're you keeping the stick?

[ axel, that's a branch ]

[compendiem]

[ That's fine; Minato would take a seat next to him, but he has a stick in his back pocket. ]

Hopefully that means they'll be weak to fire. A stick might be helpful, don't you think? Any little thing we come across, they could be useful.

[ Minato likes collecting junk. That's why pocket gravy. ]

[leaberator]

Helpful...? It's a stick.

[ he looks mildly amused at the notion because everyone in kingdom hearts is judgmental of sticks ]

What other little thing have you picked up around here?

[ stop stalling and set the forest on fire, coward ]

[compendiem]

Sticks can be helpful. Haven't picked up much else besides all this, though.

[ He gestures to the miscellaneous collection of water containers, of which the coffee mug is the only thing he'll keep from it. In about 48 hours' time, his collection will grow to include several apples, a bowl of gravy, a cactus, some knives, and a raw sardine. He'll find a use for all of these, somehow. ]

[leaberator]

[ ... minato, why. he looks at the pile of water containers ]

You really went all out, huh. Guess that means I have no choice but to set these trees on fire.

[ but he's making no effort to get up further to do it because he's a lazy piece of shit ]

[compendiem]

[ Minato "0 or 1000% there's no in between" Arisato, that's him. Usually, he just runs on 0%, though, so he must really want to see these trees be set on fire.

There's a moment's pause while Lea doesn't do anything, and then Minato steps over to the side, as if the criteria for fire is him being safely out of the way. ]

Just a little fire...
