INTRO LOG
Week Zero

32 in Competition
The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.
A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.
Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.
Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.
It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.

Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.
Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

Why? You're all weird... None of you are gems. It's better if we stay apart. I can't think of any way we could help each other.
no subject
Nobody here seems to be a demon. Why would it be best if we kept apart?
no subject
[ they don't explain further, though. Their tone remains curt and flat, as if they're wary of everything he says. ]
What's a "demon?" I've never heard of that before.

I don't know what the Netherworld is... None of this makes any sense. I hate it.
no subject
[He raises a hand up to his chin and thinks.]
Nobody seems to know why we're here. Perhaps we'll find answers soon, but if we do it's easier to share if we can speak to each other.
no subject
Are you trying to say that you're dead? I'm not an idiot.

no subject
[ they're not sure what else you can do with the dead... ]
no subject
Their bodies are probably rotting in the earth.

[ they repeat the word, clearly not familiar with it... but the things he's saying are interesting. Relevant to their situation, even. For the good of the other gems, maybe they should ask. (And, maybe, because they're worried about Phos... not that they'll ever admit it.) ]
... I heard that when a human dies, their soul stays in limbo unless someone prays for it.
no subject
Val shakes his head.]
No, at least not where I'm from.
When a human dies the natural cycle they take is reincarnation. They may stop and become a prinny to pay off their sins, but once their debt is settled they reincarnate as a blank slate. They keep no memories of their time dead or of their past life.
no subject
Wait. What's "reincarnation?" They didn't mention that.

[ things are rapidly spiraling out of hand ]

[ Don't make me give the sex talk. ]
no subject
[ they sound really skeptical. ]
Are you making fun of me?
no subject
no subject
Ugh... Whatever. That wasn't helpful at all. What's a prinny? [ a beat. ] ... Is that what you call the people on the moon?

[ now they look interested. They finally turn to face him fully. ]
Can I see it?
no subject
It's in my lodgings.
no subject
[ or not. The least they can do is try to be useful to their fellow gems. That's all they ever wanted out of life. They look at him expectantly, waiting for him to lead the way. ]
no subject
It doesn't even take them too long to get there.
The three foot prinny on the table.]
This is a prinny.
no subject
... This is it?
[ it is... definitely not a Lunarian. Not even close to a Lunarian. They can't even believe that it's a new type of Lunarian they've never seen before - that's how divorced it is from the concept of a Lunarian. ]
It looks... pathetic.
[ this sounds more like an observation than a condemnation. ]
