The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

They're at least a little mischievous, either way. They don't want us too comfortable, or they would have given us enough beds.

I'm not unaccustomed to roughing it. If whoever I'm sharing with wants the bed, that's fine.

[ course that might not be the case for everyone here but you know. ]

Still, the fact that this all doesn't make much sense doesn't change, does it.

I hope my roommate is as generous.

[ she does not want to sleep on the floor or share the bed... rip... ]

We just don't know enough, yet... But there are plenty of us around, maybe someone will find something soon. Some kind of... Clue.

[autocatalysis]

[ he actually groans out loud at that, burying his face into a hand. ]

Saying that makes it sound like the plot of some terrible pulp mystery novel. Sleepy, quiet, idyllic town in the middle of nowhere gets shaken up by the sudden arrival of- [ a vague flourished hand gesture that probably just means all of them ] -how can this possibly end.

[ Akane claps! How fun! ]

The sleepy town is a cult!

... That's usually the twist, right? But there's no one here but us. That's a way sleepier village than in those kinds of stories.

[autocatalysis]

You're right. [ he hmmms a little, briefly, as filler noise before- ] So maybe it's one of those stories instead where it turns out the town itself is some sort of self aware, possessed living entity. Or something. Who knows.

[ he doesn't actually roll his eyes but it's definitely implied by his tone. ]

[specialdog]

Ahh, then in that case it wasn't that anyone brought us here, but that the village brought us, huh?

[ she doesn't sound quite so exasperated by the ideas, but she's definitely in on the joke. ]

[autocatalysis]

Mmm. And the reason no one was here is because- [ he's doing the mental equivalent of rolling a die lbr ] -this village requires sustenance, and slowly drains away the vitality of anything living within it. We're the next victims, of course.

[ the improvisation and mental gymnastics of telling bedtime stories to a seven year old, now applied to ragging on pulp fiction! ]

Maybe it's a world shaped by our subconscious desires. Maybe that's what makes it dangerous.

[autocatalysis]

All of us wanted to get away from where we were, then? Or was the act of coming here separate from whatever incidents our collective subconsciousnesses will enact?

It's tough when we get into the fine details...

Fair enough. You didn't have to go along with it for so long, though.

[specialdog]

It was fun. Besides, I've got time to spare.

[ chatting seems like as good a way to pass the time as any. ]

Found your item from home faster than some of the rest of us, huh.

I don't suppose you happen to have seen a silver watch in any of the other houses here?

[ because yeah the original reason he's doing these home invasions, ]

[specialdog]

[ she shakes her head. ]

I haven't seen one. But even if I had, I wouldn't be able to point you towards it...

[ stupid identical houses ]

[autocatalysis]

[ he sighs a little, mostly just in how his next breath is slightly heavier than normal, but doesn't emote otherwise. ] A pity, but nothing unexpected. Either way, I might as well head back to looking for it, so...

[ yeah he's, not going to stay, probably. ]

Sorry for barging in, by the way. I stopped knocking a little while back when it turned out that most people haven't quite gotten to this part yet.

[specialdog]

[ akane laughs. she's not the type to offer to keep him company, but she doesn't mind that he wandered in. ]

That's alright. No one can fault you for that when we're all figuring stuff out together.
