The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

[ It's okay, he deserves it. He doesn't have enough air in his lungs to reply right away, so he just feigns death until she gets off him. ]

No. But I'll live.

[ He doesn't need an apology, it's okay. He pulls himself up though, getting back to his feet and dusting off his pants before extending a hand. ]

Any luck up there?

[specialdog]

No luck...

[ Akane hesitates, but takes his hand and pulls herself up. ]

I think there's just no signal around here.

[compendiem]

Too bad... I guess if there's not a lot of people living around here, it's not worth a company's time to extend coverage.

[ It's not very strange for phones to be out of service, after all, just a bit disappointing in this instance. ]

[specialdog]

You think it's something innocent like that?

[ x doubt ]

[compendiem]

It'd be nice if it was, right? Something fixable.

[ Also doubt, but he's optimistic. ]

They could have invited us instead of kidnapping, then.

[compendiem]

Yeah, they could have. Would you have come, though? Drop everything to come help a stranger?

[specialdog]

That depends on what they want from me, of course.

A working theory I had with another person, was forced slavery for use in labor.

I'm not very strong or athletic. If that's what they wanted, they picked wrong.

[compendiem]

That's what I thought too. About myself [ he adds, just to be safe. ]

But a versatile team is better than one with just brute strength, right?

Hmm, maybe...

Then what talents do you bring to the table?

[compendiem]

I can meow like a cat.

[ And sleep for 10 days straight, and tell bad jokes. The sort of very useful things listed on his profile. ]

[ ... she bursts out laughing ]

How is that helpful?

[compendiem]

...You never know when we might come across a cat. Always good to be able to say hi, right?

[ Normal people don't meow at cats to say hi, but... whatever. ]

I don't think there's any useless skills. Even the most mundane thing, it can help, somehow.

[specialdog]

I think talking to cows might be more useful, here, but I'll let you know if I see any cats.

[ oh, actually. ]

Well, there is the boy with the cat-eared hat. Maybe you should meow at him?

[compendiem]

That'd be helpful. If you see any cats, please send them my way.

[ As for the boy with the cat-eared hat, he's met him too, briefly, but meowing isn't a form of communication he's tried yet. Maybe that's the key. ]

I'll try meowing the next time I see him. Think he's part cat?

[specialdog]

[ she laughs again ] I will, I promise.

[ then thinks, because lets say by now she's gone and looked more closely at profiles... ]

I wouldn't rule it out. There's all kinds of types here. But his profile says he has horns under that hat, not real cat ears or anything like that.

[compendiem]

[ Minato... should probably go back and look at the profiles, more than a cursory glance to get to know names and faces. ]

Horns underneath the hat... [ Maybe it's a birth defect. That sounds rude so he doesn't say it. ] Well, I won't badger him about it, but that's a little disappointing. Cat ears would be cute.

[specialdog]

Wouldn't they?

But I'd rather see them on a cute girl!

[compendiem]

Hm, same. I wonder if there's any cat ear headbands or whatever inside... Would you wear one?

[specialdog]

That clothing place seems like it has everything, buuut... I don't think they'd look good on me...!

[ she sounds more uncomfortable with the idea than she does self-conscious? ]
