INTRO LOG

Week Zero
32 in Competition

The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.

Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

[Goodness, her cooking is bringing in a lot of curious noses. Nana isn't as surprised this time when someone enters the kitchen, already wearing a smile]

Mmhmm! Daiba Nana's special banana bread is on the way!

[Which means it's about done, though she does spare a look of gratitude for the offer to help. What a nice girl.]

It'll be finished in a few minutes, if you'd like to wait and have a piece. I made it for everyone here.

[ god feed her. ]

I-- I mean, yes, sure. If that's okay with you?

[ Miki sit your dumb ass down and eat the banana bread. ]

[personal profile] daibanana 2019-06-01 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it's okay with me.

[A brief flash of surprise by how timid the response she's getting is, and Nana tilts her head in intrigue, even as she continues glancing into the oven, monitoring the progress of her food]

If everyone's hungry, then we won't be able to think of a way to leave, right? Plus good banana bread is a great way to calm down when things seem impossible.

[ Well. With that okay, Miki'll just go ahead and hop on a seat for now. Food. Food. ]

Good point. I always think better on a full stomach. And I've heard cooking and eating together is a good way to bring people together as well... it's not a bad idea.

[ Plus. Y'know. The smell is A+ ]

[A pause. Another glance at her banana bread. Eventually she's going to settle on a seat herself (they've got a good five minutes left), leaning some of her weight through her elbows onto the counter]

Back at school, I make dinner for my classmates sometimes. It's always so much fun watching them eat what I make.

[A topic which always brings a smile to her face. Nana turns her head in the other girl's direction]

Do you usually eat with your friends, too?

[ That countdown is going to be a long one. ]

Oh, that sounds like one of my friends.

[ She nods, when asked about eating with friends. ] Rii-san usually cooks in the club room for us. I can do some basic recipes, but she's really good at that sort of thing. From what I can tell, she enjoys it.

Do you prefer cooking or baking?

[personal profile] daibanana 2019-06-02 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. [tapping a finger to her chin]

I'd have to chooooose... baking!

[At her own declaration, the girl claps her hands together once and grins in Miki's direction]

Cooking is fine, too, but all of my favorite desserts are ones that have to sit in the oven for a while.

That seems luxurious. [ She looks happy though. ]

I can't remember the last time I tried baking... I don't remember being very good at it though.

[ Cooking and baking all make sense on paper, but she's always been better at the more practical? But she's really good at eating baking. For sure. ]

So, cakes and pies? Those kinds of things?
daibanana: (14)

[personal profile] daibanana 2019-06-02 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmhmm. Especially cakes.

[Well, Nana herself prefers pies, but sometimes you gravitate towards the foods everyone else likes instead]

I'm always in charge of making the cake when it's someone's birthday.

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-02 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That's nice. They must trust you a lot, if they put you in charge of something like that.

[ Baking cakes. In charge of making food. She understands putting trust in different people quite well, and understanding what they're all suited to. ]
daibanana: (13)

[personal profile] daibanana 2019-06-02 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Trust, huh...

Nana doesn't disagree. She also doesn't say anything for a beat, humming quietly to herself as she traces the ceiling with her eyes.]

... I hope they do. It always makes me happy when they ask me to make their cakes, so...

[it is really is a matter of trust, then Nana is glad to have it, she seems to imply, rubbing at her chin with some measure of bashfulness]

Birthday cakes are kinda the main part of a birthday, right? So if it goes wrong, people would be disappointed. They must trust that you'll do a good job.

[ That's what it sounds like to her, at least. ]
daibanana: (11)

[personal profile] daibanana 2019-06-03 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, you think so?

[It's said with a smile, though Nana neither agrees nor disagrees with the statement.

Besides, when the oven gives a soft ding!, that's Nana's cue to hurry over with her oven mitts, fetching out the banana bread that's still steaming hot.]

Ah, here we go! Finished at last. Now we just need it to cool.
stillstands: (19)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-03 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I do.

[ OH.

OH IT'S THE MOMENT OF TRUTH.

It's almost impossible hide the way her eyes sparkle at the sigh of that banana bread. Ah, she'd thought the long wait was over but the real test is only just beginning. ]

Right. Okay.

It looks delicious.

[personal profile] daibanana 2019-06-03 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Here, let me cut you a slice.

[it'll cool faster if it's separated, and so Nana goes to grab two plates -- one for each -- before setting them on the table]

I do wish I'd added nuts to this one, but I wasn't sure if anyone here had allergies.

[ALWAYS THOUGHTFUL, THIS ONE]
stillstands: (15)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-03 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
But you would normally?

[ Banana bread... with nuts. Huh. It sounds pretty good, actually. ]

It might be worth asking around and seeing anyway. Especially if this is a communal kitchen and lots of us may end up using it for food. I doubt we can just call 119 and get medical help like back home.

[ thoughtful and logical. kinda like terrible superhero names. ]
daibanana: (Default)

[personal profile] daibanana 2019-06-03 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I add nuts, raisins... whatever everyone is in the mood for!

[Bless banana bread for being so versatile tbh]

And you're right, I'll makes sure to ask everyone if we end up staying here for a while.

[NO ONE IS DYING ON HER WATCH, oKAY? At least not from allergic reactions. Anyway, the banana bread is now cut, placed on the plates, with Nana scooting one over for Miki]

Oh, before we eat -- how about we celebrate by exchanging names.

[Because they've gone an entire convo without doing that asldfajskfaf]

[ ...

g a s p. ]

So you could add chocolate chips to the batter or something?

[ her world view is expanding right as they speak. Yum. She looks delighted by the sight of the slice of cake and ready to eat, but, yes. Manners first. ]

Oh, sure. Sorry, I didn't realise I hadn't said who I was. I'm Miki.
