Week Zero

The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

So eating sweets together with friends...it makes them taste the best that way?

[She supposes that makes sense. She, after all, didn't have much to do alone, but even her favorite things to do alone didn't make her happy because of how alone she was.]

[leaberator]

Yeah. It tastes better with friends.

[ he's experienced that one first hand, and he decides to not think about that at all right now. because there is a really depressing child holding his hand ]

I hope so too. Everybody deserves a friend. [ god. why is he so sappy. he's going to die. ANYWAY HERE WE ARE AT THE KITCHEN ] Alright! It's gotta be around here somewhere...

[ time to raid a freezer for ice cream because this is what he does with sad children. this is it. this is his go-to ]

[withsadness]

[It's kitchen time! Because she doesn't know where she can help look, she instead finds herself a seat! She climbs up onto one high enough to swing her legs excitedly beneath her.]

Should I close my eyes?

[leaberator]

[ a beat ]

Yes.

[ it'll be better if it's a full on surprise? and also so he can make up something if he can't find what he's looking for.

but luckily the mods gave me the okay ages ago, so, instead she's going to hear him tinkering in the kitchen for a little bit because i'm not making it easy for him, he has to make a bowl. ]

Alright, Mary, you can open your eyes! [ he brandishes the bowl of chocolate ice cream that is clearly far too big for any child to eat to her with a grin ] Ta-da! Every time something happens, good or bad, I eat ice cream together with my friends. [ this is a very simplistic way of explaining that ritual, but. ] So, there you go.

[ he's so fucking proud of himself. ]

[withsadness]

Ice cream!

[Mary gives the loudest, most excited gasp!]

And it's all for us? I'm so happy!

[She can't help but reach for a spoon right away.]

Let's eat ice cream together forever and ever!

[leaberator]

[ oh god this is why he normally goes for teens he's too weak. but he keeps a grin on ]

Sure, why not? Like I said, it's what friends do, so, we're friends now. Got it memorized?

[withsadness]

I'll never forget, cross my heart. So we're friends to the end now, no matter what!

[No matter what. Mary's eyes close happily as she savors a piled spoonful of ice cream.]

[leaberator]

[ he takes a spoonful himself, talking around it: ]

Yeah, we are. So, Mary, whaddya like to do for fun? Besides read that book.

[ please have a fun hobby small, sad child ]

[withsadness]

I like to color! Coloring is my favorite thing. I draw all sorts of things. If I can find something to color with, I'll draw you a picture!

[Thank god it's something normal. For now, at least.]

[leaberator]

[ ah! ]

Hey, I know someone here who draws. Maybe you guys could draw together sometime, show me what you've got?

[withsadness]

That would be really fun!

[Until she inevitably feels like she's not as good at it but, you know what, it sounds promising!]

Do you think they'd like me? They won't mind drawing with me?

[leaberator]

[ it depends on if someone gives them both crayons or pencils ]

Nah, she's nice. Actually, you guys are kinda alike in one more way. [ lonely, he doesn't outright say, but: ] You both could really use some friends.
