Week Zero

The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

[SEE. He would explain, but he already lied to Emma and now to keep up that lie he has to lie to Milla? Damnit.]

A fighting skill? I've never heard of it.

Is it based on hand to hand?

Yes. [Badbadbad.] Why else would the scroll mention my hands?

How odd that I've never heard of it, then. My--[She pauses, purses her lips, and starts again.]--friend was an accomplished hand to hand martial artist, and the Ikebana style was not one that he mentioned.

Ah, perhaps it's local to your world, or country?

[Why did she stumble on the word friend? He lifts his head a little to give her a curious look. Annnd then it occurs to him that he really should put a cap on this.]

It's definitely local to my world, but it's very dangerous. So people don't talk about it at all.

Really? How timely, considering our current situation.

I would love to see it.

Right now? [Uh.] The thing about ikebana is that if anyone else sees it that's a giveaway that I could be a threat to them. I'd like to get through this as peacefully as possible. [There's a ? at the end of that sentence because wow please don't fight him.]

[Hands on her hips, she shifts her weight as Kaoru... "explains".]

Don't worry, there's no one else here. You should be perfectly safe.

[Is there? A sparkle in her eye?? Does she want to fight???]

In the meeting hall? How often do you fight in closed arenas?

Hmm... I don't make a habit of it, but I can if I need to.

There is little other choice when it comes to coliseum battles, after all.

Have you fought in a lot of coliseum battles? [Should he be preparing to actually get his ass handed to him?]

Quite a number. In fact, I was required to fight solo for many of them.

It was excellent training. Of course, I had full access to my artes and abilities during that time, but if anything, I find that limitations breed creativity.

[It's official. Kaoru is the week zero kill. He considers his chances for a moment.]

Well. Maybe another time? I would hate for both of us to waste energy right away. [No.]

But I still have plenty of energy...

How do we know that will last though? Even if you're in a vessel, given our captors were able to strip you of your artes and everything the vessel might be different and won't recharge properly. Why risk that?

You have a point. I will wait and see, based on what transpires from here.

Hopefully, I will be able to witness the marvel of the Ikebana style in the future.

If we get some answers about what's happening anytime soon, I can show you then. [SAFE.] We might learn why your powers are gone, too.

What are you going to do now?

I will finish reading these, [the scrolls] and then examine the rest of our surroundings.

I don't want to be taken by surprise by something, just because I'm not aware of the lay of the land, or the rules of it. While we still have time, there's no excuse.
