Week Zero

The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

Not with normal people, but c'mon, on a scale like this? It's definite bad guy vibes, and those love to show off about the worst things.

[stillstands]

[ h m ]

Well... yeah. You don't usually get given a pat on the back and a medal for a mass kidnapping.

I wonder if we can just ignore them, if they make a big deal out of it.

[leaberator]

[ he laughs a bit ]

Oh, man, I hope so. I'd love to see the look on anyone's faces when their big speech is completely ignored.

[stillstands]

It's the best way to deal with people whose egos have grown too big.

[ I-Ice cold. ]

[leaberator]

Ruthless, but not inaccurate. You've got the right idea.

[ where was this when axel had to listen to 700 villain speeches from the entire organization at all times ]

[stillstands]

It can be dangerous though. Those kinds of people can be unstable when angry, and if they feel someone's not listening...

[ She makes a balancing motion with her hands, like scales. ]

It's probably situational. I hope whoever organised this is the kind of person we can flat out ignore.

[ the organisation would probably have tantrums if ignored, let's be honest. ]

[leaberator]

You got a lot of experience with those kinds?

[ he says, with no irony whatsoever, ]

It's fun to think of, but we probably should listen a little to whatever's the reason behind this whole shindig.

[stillstands]

Once or twice. Some people are very sure they're right, and won't listen to any reason.

[ it was, uh. an experience. let's go with that. ]

So, listen enough to info gather, but not enough to give them the time of day they crave? It's probably manageable.

[leaberator]

Don't I know it.

[ but it seems more to himself than anything. ]

Yeah. We gotta hit that sweet spot between figuring out what's going on and playing along with it, I figure.

[stillstands]

Starting out easy, then. But if we can't gather information, we'll be in real trouble later on.

[ No choice, really. ]

[leaberator]

Well, the good news is, I think we're already in real trouble right now. So we have a real incentive to figure stuff out.

[ THAT'S NOT GOOD NEWS?? ]

[stillstands]

[ . . . . ]

I mean. Yes? Kidnapping kinda sucks and can turn pretty violent if you try to turn against your kidnappers. Which is pretty much what we've been talking around this whole time.

If we're already in trouble then we might as well do everything we can.

[leaberator]

[ he huffs ]

Yeah, that's kinda what I was getting at. But you're right, we've been dancing around that this whole time. Whatever reason it is, and whoever brought us here, it's bad news. I kinda wish I could figure out a bit more than that right now, but I can't even figure out what everyone's here got in common to be part of the same kidnapped circle.

[stillstands]

Right. There are some of us who know each other, but overall we’re from different places. So it’s not like it could be a home state or political motive because it wouldn’t apply to all of us...

[ Ugggh. ]

It doesn’t make any sense.

[leaberator]

I've heard of grand schemes, but this has gotta be... what, a massive scheme? It's way too much for just one regular guy.

[ it's very annoying ]

It's involving a lot of different worlds, too.

[ just gonna. casually. drop that ]

[stillstands]

Is... is that really a thing? There’s only one world, isn’t there?

[ Oh Miki. Of all the people to ask you ask a KH. ]

But it does seem well organised and planned. We have food sources, methods to defend ourselves... entertainment, if you enjoy books [ Which, y’know, she really does ] and there’s plenty of shelter. Whatever it is, it wasn’t opportunistic.

[leaberator]

[ there's a very real pause as he considers how to answer that one ]

Well, no, but most people don't know that. Or aren't supposed to, I never quite got the rules about it.

[ maybe he should have considered that earlier. woopsies. ]

Right. You're pretty observant. [ ...it sounds condescending, but it's meant to be praise? he's just used to dumb teens ] None of this was done on a whim, which... honestly kinda worries me. What possible reason could someone have to go to all this trouble? It can't be anything good.

[stillstands]

[ oh. wow?? huh. ]

So... you're saying there are secret worlds out there. That no one knows about?

[ That's.

wow okay yeah that's a thing. ]

It's not exactly hidden. If you count the houses, there's half the number of houses to scrolls on the wall in that main hall, give or take one or two.

Whatever we're here for, it must be something equivalent to the cost of bringing us here. There'd be no reason to bother otherwise?

[leaberator]

Hmmm... Sorta? People know their own worlds just fine. [ he is being obtuse on purpose, there. ] They say every star in the sky is another world. They're all connected like that.

[ that makes no sense if you think of Science but, whatever, let us move on ]

Yeah. But... what if it didn't cost them much at all? Maybe they're just super powerful.

[stillstands]

[ But she thinks about science a lot?? ] That's... a lot of potential worlds out there, if it's true.

... I think that's worse than thinking of them having too much money. Or maybe it's both, and then what? If they have the money to do whatever they want, and the power to do it unquestioned, then finding help is going to be difficult.

[leaberator]

[ it's true, but he doesn't expand on it, just hums in acknowledgement. ]

I think the only help we're gonna get is right here. [ he gestures around them vaguely ] Everyone in this place, that is. Otherwise, I don't think we're gonna get a whole lotta contact with the outside.

[ he's basing this off of rules and laws of the kh universe not working and it would make absolutely no sense to anyone else, ever ]

[stillstands]

It's still worth trying to get a message, or SOS out there. Who knows, maybe we're not the only people trapped here, and there are others that might be looking for ways to escape. Or others that have escaped.

[ It makes sense to her to try. ]

But, yeah. Keeping ourselves safe and working with what we have is important too. Otherwise we'll just stay here doing nothing, and hoping for some sort of divine intervention.
