Week Zero

The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.

Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

Noooo I won't!

[She says as she starts to tumble backwards. His brisk pace just makes her want to swing that sword harder, wow.]

I'm a responsible lady!

[ hhhhhh how does he small child with a sword, he's used to keeping them from getting to a weapon in the first place if they have no training this is just irresponsible,

but he plasters on a smile and slows his pace a little, raising his hands as he approaches. see, no harm! ]

I never meant to imply you weren't, ma'am. Be that as it may, however, I fear this blade would be a pale imitation of the one you might have misplaced. The balance feels off, doesn't it?

[ very solemnly, with the gravity involved in bullshitting to a precocious 7yo who wants to be just like his big brother the agent, ]

It may be cursed.

It is a little heavy...

[Mary stops swinging it, for one thing, so that's good. She looks at her sword mournfully, and that sad expression turns into fright when Julius gives his second thought on the matter. A curse? With a shriek, she absolutely yeets it away from her.]

I don't want to be cursed!

[ listen I am this far from saying it causes a horrible domino effect of swords falling but let's not.

anyway he crouches down in front of her and tries to project reassuring. ness. jury's out on whether or not he succeeds but!!! he continues, with the same amount of gravitas]

It's a good thing you got rid of it when you did. If it was actually cursed, then it probably won't last long. Though I'm willing to bet the castle has other tricks up its sleeves too, Princess...

[ he glances around, then stage whispers, as if relating a grave secret: ] It might be that none of the weapons here are safe.

[At first, it doesn't seem to work. Shaking slightly, Mary seems on the verge of crying, but then...he calls her a Princess! And suddenly, everything's okay. They're in the game, now!]

Then what do we do? Do we have to defeat an evil wizard?

[ thoughtfully: ] That's usually how you break a curse, unless it's the kind where they have to release it themselves. Still. How do you know I'm not the evil wizard?

[Shock!]

Well...well you can't be, because you warned me about the curse! If you were the evil wizard, why would you do that?

Perhaps to gain your trust, and wait until an opportune moment to betray it?

[ still that same level tone, but- ]

You're right, though. I haven't any magic to my name, so I couldn't possibly be the evil wizard. I'm just... [ hmm. ] The dragon meant to both guard and keep you trapped here, cursed into human form.

Cursed...?

[Mary looks sad, but it doesn't seem to be about most of what he said. About a potential betrayal, or about keeping her trapped. She reaches up to put her small hands on his face.]

It must be so sad.

... Don't worry. It isn't anything I haven't gotten used to by now.

[ He absolutely stiffens up at first contact, though he forces himself to relax after the initial moment. ]

But really, you should't be fussing over one of those keeping you in the castle, you know?

But I think maybe...maybe if I have to stay in the castle and can never go outside again, it's okay as long as I'm not all alone. So let's stay in the castle together, and be friends always!

[Sounds great. :) ]
