INTRO LOG
Week Zero
32 in Competition
32 in Competition
The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.
A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.
Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.
Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.
It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.

Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.
Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

[a tilt of their head]
And more than that, no progress would be made if you continued aimlessly. So we are here to provide the answers that we can.
I hope we may be of service.

[ it's not strictly something that needs an answer, but he is skeptical, so. because he's been hearing some of the other conversations going on, and, well. ]
If all of us are meant to be here for some sort of purpose, you'd think it'd make more sense to explain sooner rather than later.
What is this help that only we should be able to provide, anyway?
[ he's not entirely dismissive, at least. ]

[it's all lune's fault, all the time]
But you see, in essence: this is the core of the universe. It is currently unstable, and you have all been brought here in order to calm it.
We - [a gesture between the two cloaked figures] - have been brought here to aid you in that.
no subject
[ it's almost impressive how blandly that comes out rather than disbelieving or anything. ]
Don't tell me this is some sort of balance of souls and energies business. How are we meant to do that, exactly?
no subject
[at least lune likes it??? they sound rather happy with it, actually]
Souls and energies... No, I don't believe that is the answer. Perhaps it is better to consider it along the lines of finding consensus, and the influence of relationships?
no subject
[ he's just going along with it impassively......... ]
At least there's that much. [ what do you mean, julius. ] And the consequences if we fail?
no subject
anyway - ]
How are you choosing to define failure?
I suppose calming the core can be seen as a goal - it is what I would prefer, but I will admit that my preferences do not merit much in this case.
The other is allowing it to continue to run rampant, and see that to an end, as unruly as it may be.
Progress is progress... and all of the choices that you here make will shape the future you must all live with.
no subject
I can't much define failure when it hasn't been made clear to me what we are meant to do. You say coming to an accord with each other, then talk about either dispelling the darkness or not doing so. You imply the latter will come of the former, so what happens if we fail to agree on any one approach?
no subject
[lune thinks there's a fairly obvious answer - however there's the addition:]
Not that I endorse it, or condone it, but when desperation infuses itself into disputes, there is normally a fairly predictable course of action.
That would also have to be a choice in front of all of you.
no subject
Unless you're attempting to say that this is supposed to be some sort of cosmic metaphor, and any conflict or discord here reflects outward on... whatever universe this is.
[ both sol and lune keep talking about these grand, universal things that are supposed to come from their decisions but are incredibly vague on what those decisions will lead to. or what those decisions are supposed to be, outside of something regarding the darkness. great.
he changes tack. ]
The elements, then. How are they involved in this?
no subject
Each of you have been assigned to an element - the young one and I are aware of what that is for each of you. How you use your newly granted powers might also help things in your favor, whether you intend to help the people you ally with or to the detriment of others.
Consider it something of an equalizer.

[you might have gotten weirder assignments if they were]
You all arrived as you are, and the two of us only have the most basic understanding of you.
Do you find yours fitting?
no subject
I could even say it almost seems as if we are expected to fail in finding accord outside of our apparent allies, until...
[ well. what usually happens when diplomacy breaks down and disagreements get a little. hm. ]
no subject
Though it matters little, it is not what I advise.
After all, an element is merely an element. I would not call them naturally predisposed to opposition.
That only exists in the nature of person.
