The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.

Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

Okay. Let me know if you change your mind! I don't know how long we're going to be stuck here, so...

[She figures she might as well get everyone's food preferences on lock, just in case]

Sure, thanks. But don't you want to know anything else about me before you start offering me free food?

[ what is she. a sora. ]

Oh, you're willing to tell me something about yourself?

[She'd clap her hands in satisfaction if her hands weren't filled with bananas, so she's going to settle on the smile she always wears, peering up at him.]

I didn't want to put you on the spot all of the sudden, is all~

[ god? this kid? ]

Well, I was gonna settle with at least my name... [ because sharing anything else about himself seems weird, but-- ] It's Lea. Got it memorized?

[... does she... have it memorized?

Head tilting like 20 degrees to the side before abruptly she nods, expression bubbly again]

Yes! I memorized it. It's a pleasure to meet you, Lea-san. You can call me Nana, if you'd like.

[Bc you don't look Japanese, spiky haired man. So we'll just skip the formalities]

[ what the FUCK is a san? ]

Nice to meetcha, Nana. You cook for strangers a lot?

Well... normally I don't, but I thought since we might be stuck here for a while, I should do my part and make sure everyone has something to eat.

[Winding up in the middle of nowhere with no recognition of how it happened is frightening on a good day, after all.]

So I'm going to memorize what everyone's favorite foods are. Then anyone can come to me if they're hungry.

[ oh my god. she IS a sora? which is just code for a very nice person ]

That's sweet of ya. I doubt everyone else thought of food so far, so that's good.

[NANA IS BANANICE AND TRIES HER HARDEST

... Also huffing in amusement at the compliment, and looking a little embarrassed]

I'm glad. I'm sure everyone else is worried about other things, after all.

[liiiike escaping. definitely escaping]

It's a shame the gates won't open for some reason.

Well... The reason's probably to keep us in, I'd bet.

[ just. logically. ]

That's true. I just wish we knew what the reason was.

[Because it doesn't seem to be to harm them? Not that she can see. The kitchen was fully stocked and everything, and they're not harmed in any way]

Do you remember anything from before you got here, Lea-san?

Last thing I remember, I was hanging out with my friends. Everything before I wound up here is a total blank. I'm guessing that's something similar for you?

[her eyes dart to the side for a moment, thoughtful.

Then they slide back to Lea as she nods]

Yes, I was with one of my classmates... and then all of this happened. I don't remember anyone having taken me here, though.

So they just took everyone here and ... either none of us noticed, or they erased our memories of it somehow?

[ he brings a head up to his forehead with a sigh ]

That's worrying on more than one level.

... I didn't think about our memories being erased.

[For once, there's no smile on her face. Her mouth has set into a line, if only briefly.]

If that's the case... how rude.

Yeah. I'm not a big fan of that either.

[ like he has some kind of issue with memories or something. ]

Still, there's no way to know for sure until we figure out who did this. What a pain in the neck.

Hmmm...

[Humming again? To herself, mostly, and the smile returns with vigor]

Oh, before I forget -- have you checked the houses, yet? There are things on the bed that might belong to us.

Ah-- yeah, I did, thanks. Found my phone and my roommate, so I got that going for me.

[ his roommate is a child but that's fine ]

You have a phone?

[GUESS WHAT QUESTION IS COMING NEXT]

I don't suppose you get service out here?

[That's going to be one heck of a plot-twist, if they can just call the police and put this nightmare behind them]

[ he takes out what clearly looks like a child's toy from his pocket, pressing a few buttons to show it. does. work. somehow. but when he presses to call, it disconnects automatically. ]

Nope. Nothing going. Which means I really gotta talk to some people about their range promises once I get out of here.

[ he's gonna call out a few chipmunks, is what he's saying ]

Ah... I've never seen a phone quite like this before.

But I guess it would be too much to hope that a phonecall would solve our troubles.

I wouldn't think you would. There aren't that many out there in the universe.

[ because they were made by chipmunks and their inter-dimensional or whatever. ]

Hey, nothing wrong with being optimistic. I definitely tried the phone first thing after I got it back.

[Chipmunks need to work on their sense of style, yikes. Even Nana is lowkey shook by the quality.

Though after a pause, Nana tilts her head.]

Lea-san, does your phone take pictures by any chance?

Huh? Yeah, sure.

[ he opens the fucking camera, which has a very clear selfie mode option ]

[Nana's eyes are practically sparkling.

She doesn't ask to take a picture, however, even if anyone can see that's what she'd like, and there's no small amount of reminders to herself that this isn't her camera, it won't have the pictures she's looking for--

But it's nice knowing there's one here, she decides, enough to bring a smile to her face.]
