Week Six: Trial

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.
The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with the glass boxes perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Julius and Cinnabar's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.
Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. It's only when everyone has gathered that Sol speaks first. They hesitate, looking back at Lune for a moment before they square their shoulders and face the participants again.
"Lune's going to be here to supervise, but I'll be the one taking care of things today. I know things have been kinda tough, but…trust your instincts and ask for whatever you need. I'll do my best."

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the sixth trial!
Things will proceed as normal, but for this trial and the next all NPC interactions will be via Sol while Dana is out of town! This means questions and locations will be handled by them.
We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.
As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.
Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.
If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

WEEK SIX: EXECUTION
As the morning rolls in, a quiet unsteady feeling fills the air of the village. The light around Akane's confinements remains faint, keeping its power in tact for a bit longer.
The moment the sun reaches the highest point in the sky, a faint bell chimes and all will feel compelled to return to the main meeting hall.
When all are gathered, Lune and Sol will enter the room escorting Akane. The budding corruption slowly seeps from her as the Signs bring her to the front of the crowd.
Stepping aside, Lune leaves Sol to speak.
"Today, we deliver Akane to a realm where the darkness can't touch her before it rots further. One of you has volunteered to complete this task.
Akane, if you would step forward."
Even if it's phrased as a gentle request, Akane will find herself without much choice as the light that encased her home will encourage her limbs forward if she does not comply. In addition, they will wait for Valvatorez to approach as well.
CLEANSING: AKANE
no subject
But she doesn't have the energy to complain about it. She just looks... Exhausted. ]
no subject
His sword is at his side as he watches Akane.]
Are you ready?
no subject
No, but it doesn't matter, does it? I guess I just... Never thought about...
[ What it's like from this side of things. The one getting killed. And, like, sure, Akane kills over things like 'bumped into me in the hall' and 'accidentally hit me with a volleyball once,' whereas her actual crime was definitely legitimate, and she did definitely murder Cinnabar, but.
Look, getting the sentiment behind it is still Big for her. It turns out it feels bad to be put to death. Who knew. ]
no subject
[It's not something Val spends an excessive amount of time thinking about. Killing and death- that's normal in the Netherworld. Just something a demon grows up with knowing. Be strong, or die.
It's not the same for humans. Killing isn't something so casual.
At home, she would certainly be turned into a prinny for her crimes.
Here? He has no idea.]
Is there anything you want to say? Everyone is here now.
no subject
At the very least, this entire system of corruption and purifying was out of her hands. Being put into a scenario where it seems like kill or be killed is the only option, where there can only be one person left standing.
She sighs, and surveys the crowd. Mostly to glare at people, with the exceptions of Namine and Milla.
Even if she tried to explain herself, they still wouldn't understand, wouldn't change their minds about her. They don't care about her, they all just like to say it over and over as if empty words make it true--as if it makes up for anything. ]
... No. Just get it over with.
no subject
[There's no reason to allow this to continue any longer. Akane killed Cinnabar, now, Akane will die for her crime.
Is this justice? Is this right?
All he can do is make it quick.
He raises his blade and brings it down against the back of her neck, severing the spine and the spinal cord.]
AFTERMATH;
All will find themselves called toward the blackness, their most negative and repulsive emotions brought to the forefront of their mind. Every vice of hatred, jealousy, contempt, beckoning them as their hearts are vulnerable -
Until a single light seems to be cast from above, brought into the very center of the darkness, and when the blinding nature of it clears, the body of the victim is gone, leaving only Sol and Lune. A light encases all on the main platform, protecting them from further temptation until the glow dims into nothing.
Sol speaks next:]
...though the heart may be vulnerable to the darkness, there's always a light within reach. Our time together is running out, but never forget the bonds you have made with one another.
[With that, both NPCs take their leave, but the lanterns continue to float peacefully if others wish to speak with them.
Peace returns to the village, if only for so long.]
