Week Seven

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Sol who speaks up first this time.

"Morning. As usual, you guys were a big help in purging the darkness that lingered in the gateway from last week. We'll take it from here." There's a pause. "...we've got a new one for you, but there's something really weird about it. It's even larger than the last, so be careful when you're out there."

When Sol finishes, Lune picks up where they left off.

"Would it be odd to say that I believe you are all doing well? Your growth has been admirable.... Have heart as you continue to move forward."

The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.

In addition, as the week goes on, everyone will find that somewhere on their person, a small word is printed displaying their most prominent trait. Though they may not agree, or even realize it, this is a trait that most strongly defines them and over the week this trait will slowly become amplified.

Maybe it's necessity rather than choice. All the places have been hit by the corruption at some point, right?

Supposedly. But it makes you wonder if these are the only places that have been hit, or if others have, too, and they're just choosing to send us to these ones. That's what I'm more concerned about.

Thinking there are a bunch of worlds out there without anyone there to intervene and try and help it... that's not a nice thought.

Of course not. But what could we do about it? I've put thought into this, and I still don't have an answer.

I couldn’t say either. We’re reliant on the gateways and it’s not like we have a say in where they end up. And we don’t even know what worlds there are out there could be in trouble.

...

I didn’t even know there were other worlds until I came here.

Neither did I. It sounds like some people knew but that's an exception, not a rule. I was hoping that maybe we'd learn more from the other side of things, but it sounds like we're still on our own as usual.

I wonder how we could make the gateways stay longer though.

Run into more people and ask questions, you mean? ... I think the closest we got was in the war world -- with the ouija board. But we didn't really get much time to try that out.

[ Hm. ]

I don't think not helping the world out works. And I don't think just leaving it and hoping it doesn't vanish is fair...

Why not? If it isn't helped, it won't go anywhere if the whole point is for us to fix things. Right? That would make logical sense and if that's not true then we'd get an answer of an underlying motivation.

But we wouldn't be able to help them if it did vanish. Is it worth that sort of risk?

Maybe not, but...you have to admit that some risks have to be taken in situations like this. [Still...] Most of us here are too anxious to let it slide anyway. It's not likely to happen.

It still doesn't feel right. Besides, what if there was a way to do something to help that let to answers. We'd just be throwing them away.

[ ... she laughs a little. ]

Everything feels like it's a step away from doing something irreversible, in the most negative sense of the word. I don't blame us, really.

I guess we could all do with some caution, but you know I don't like wasting time. [It's frustrating.] It's finding a balance that makes this complicated.

I know, but there's not a lot we can do. Raging against something we can't change won't do us any good.

But trying to figure out what we can can't hurt either. You're not wrong about the balance being tough.

We'll go save some eggs and we'll figure it out from there. If we cooperate just enough, we may get the answers necessary. Pick a direction and I'll follow your lead.

Keep ourselves working and we're more likely to find out some information, right? Um...

[ A direction.... ]

Did they say anything about where the eggs would be? Maybe we should look around the higher altitudes for nests, in case one was brought there by mistake?

I don't think they're bird eggs. They seemed to imply they're scattered all around the mountain...there's four regions we can look in, but I haven't explored too much. I've been a little busy with other stuff.

I only know what you've told me. Should we just pick a direction and walk that way? If they're that scattered, we're bound to find something.

I think that's good enough. There's the ocean, the forest, an abandoned city and the wasteland we're already in. We'll have to start climbing downward from the mountain if we want to reach the other locations.

Might as well start here then. The abandoned city?

[ That's. Uh... more her wheelhouse in terms of exploring. She'd rather avoid the ocean for the moment. ]

Works for me. There's a hospital there, too. And our powers work better there...those are the things I've noticed so far, but I haven't done a deep study yet. [But he'll reach for her hand before recalling he can't touch her, hand hovering before he frowns and gestures for her to follow. Come along.]

Our powers work better there? Ours specifically or in general?

[ It sounds like as good a place as any to start, so. Away they go? She does look down at their hands when Kaoru tries and remembers they can’t hold hands anymore and frowns slightly. Not to make light of something like this but not being able to touch sucks? It sucks. ]

You’ll have a better idea of where to go than I do, so... lead the way.

[There's a nod. He's going to lead the way back down the mountainside, keeping close even if he can't take her hand. It's about as good as it's going to get.]

Ours specifically. Some of the other regions are enhancing the other elements, but that's the one designed for us for some reason.
