mingle: farewell

Farewell
34 Revived

As the sun rises on Saturday morning, all will be quiet and still in the village. Not a single soul stirs as the sun and the moon linger in the sky, visible should anyone look.

A shimmer of stars spark through the air as a swirl of darkness lifts from the village. Everything has returned to as it once was, all 16 houses in-tact and all buildings precisely as they were before. Beams of light follow, soaring through the air and delivering every single participant back to this plane of existence.

As participants gather their wits and take in their surroundings, they'll find that a celebratory banquet has been prepared for them not unlike the one that originally greeted them. Decorations hang from the rafters and windows as lively music plays and can be heard in every part of the village. Some may even be able to trace the source to a gathering of musical instruments, and even...a turntable? Strange. All manner of fruits and vegetables appear to be perfect for harvest, and a variety of freshly cooked dishes from across many worlds can be found on display at the tables in the center. If you don't see your favorite dish? All of the ingredients can be found, along with amenities to make it yourself.

Surrounding the center of the village, several gateways open one by one, a soft gold glow emitting from them. No dangers linger in these parts, but adventure awaits those who wish to find it. Likewise, silver gateways open alongside these and serve as portals that allow participants to return to their homeworlds whenever they're ready.

Your Oracle Bells are in working condition, all messages saved from your time here and featuring a new network feature. Even as you leave this world, you're only 140 characters away from the friends you've come to cherish. Look around at those who join you today. Look hard enough, and you may even find some familiar faces you haven't seen for a very, very long time.

Though your time in this village draws to a close, the universe has settled and found a path to follow. You will always have a place here should you wish to return, and even when you depart for your next destination, your strength and power will follow you.

Your gratitude will be remembered, participants. Congratulations.

What kind of situation were you in where you were both cognizant enough to both be able to agree to a contract at all, and also think that something like that favored you.

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-10 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Um.

[ "Now if you want to proceed, please sign your name there." ]

I wasn't allowed to go upstairs to sleep until I signed my name. It sounded fair, at the time.

They held your... bedroom? Dormitory? Hostage to make you sign, I see.

[ personas and their starting with contracts, I, personally, on an ooc level understand, but ]

... And you couldn't just sleep somewhere else while you thought this over?

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-11 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
...I guess I could've slept on the ground. But beds are preferable, and giving away my name wasn't a big deal.

[ He'd just come in from a long train ride, let him have a bed. ]

... did they hand you a blank contract, or did you just not read it? Because if the offer was only that you be allowed to go to your bedroom, I'm not sure how the year to live part factors in here.

[ ?????? julius was raised in rich kid society, minato please,,, ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-11 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Um... I was very sleepy.

[ He did not read the contract. ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-11 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[ yeah... ]

I had a really nice bed, though. All the way at the end of the hall, so it's nice and quiet. Totally worth it.

If we all survive this then I'm giving you a crash course on how not to handle shady contracts. Who knows when you might end up signing your body away for human experimentation, or something like that.

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-11 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
If science can progress with the donation of my body, isn't that a good thing?

[ He would sign his body away, no hesitation ]

At least try to pick and choose the kinds of shady science you'd be advancing. There's a world of difference between a back alley doctor short on funding trying to develop some kind of revolutionary procedure, and some egomaniac scientist thinking his idea of draining life force from humans is going to be the thing that ends the energy crisis once and for all.

[ as an exaggerated sort of example, anyway. he's not even going to try to bother to point minato away from shady things altogether, given his demonstrated tastes ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-12 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There's... lots of differences, yeah, but Minato has trouble figuring out which Julius means is shadier than the other. ]

Lack of money halting the advancement of medicine sucks... That sort of thing is worth donating to. But so is ending the energy crisis... The polar bears will be in trouble unless we help with that.

... polar bears?

Was that the only thing you got out of the second part of that?

[ minato... ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-12 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Um.

[ Yes, but he tries his hardest to think of another thing so Julius will stop looking at him with such disappointment. ]

Polar bears and... bees...?

Bees?

[ now he just sounds kind of baffled

it might be that the nature of their respective energy crises is a little different between worlds ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-12 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Minato nods, but instead of explaining anything, he just repeats ]

Bees.

Why are we talking about bees.

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-13 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Um... bees die when it's too hot out... After that, the world's food supply will die out. The end of humanity. Global warming kills.

[ ... ]

Save the bees.
autocatalysis: (тнaт тнey'd вecoмe real)

[personal profile] autocatalysis 2019-08-13 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh.

[ yikes. ]

Our food supply has already been doing pretty badly without ... all that, unfortunately. But that. Sounds bad, I suppose.

[ don't be Elympios, don't be a place where your lakes formerly full of fish have run dry and the land is barren and your food has to be grown in plants. ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-08-13 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... The world's slated to end before the bees and polar bears go extinct, so it's not too sad. If you're going home later, I've got some gravy and stuff I can send back with you. It keeps well.

[ Like, it's definitely rancid gravy, but it will continue to be rancid gravy all year round without any additional decrease in quality. ]

[ I mean, they're like. Fancy intensive greenhouses to grow sad and bland produce, but like. They're functional? ]

That... Won't be necessary. It's not like we're starving, just. Agriculture isn't in a much of a flourishing state, maybe I should say.
