WEEK ZERO TRIAL

Week Zero: Trial
31 in Competition

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.

The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with a glass box perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Tsurumaru's coffin is open, and his body will be available for examination.

Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. Before Lune gets a chance to speak, Sol draws everyone's attention.

"Yesterday…something really bad happened. The instability of the core has manifested into something bigger than we thought, and it's hidden among us. Today, it'll be your job to find it, and determine what to do with it."

They gesture to the open space between them and the participants then.

"Lune and I will help you as much as we can. But the final decision is yours and yours alone."

With that said, they settle back in their seat.

"Oh. And you have nine hours…let's get going."

Incidentally, anyone who did not dance with their partner during Wednesday's party will soon find that they are now sharing a new article of clothing. Congratulations.

✩★✩

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the first trial!

We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.

As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.

Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

The child.

[hm]

Is it our responsibility to destroy the corruption now, or simply point it out?

[one hand on her sword, it's very straightforward. stab test is on.]

Depends. If we destroy it now, will we still have to vote? I'd rather not learn through experience.

[so. you know. maybe don't stab the baby.]

[personal profile] tothemaxwell 2019-06-08 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting point. Sooner is naturally better, but if the elimination takes its course as a part of the vote, then there's no need for it now. I wouldn't want to add on an uninvolved party.

[fine, baby stabbing postponed]

[personal profile] televised 2019-06-08 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. People are already going to be up in arms about involving a human child. Let's not make it worse.
tothemaxwell: (i'm a fuse)

[personal profile] tothemaxwell 2019-06-08 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm.

[fine]

What if we asked the child to cut a small scratch on their finger? The evidence would be conclusive. At the very least, a vote would prevail.

If the paint is her blood, that's a good way to get any doubt out of the way. Scratching her finger should be enough to draw a drop without it being too painful.

Whoa. Uh, you want to put your hand down?
tothemaxwell: (i'm on a mission tonight)

[personal profile] tothemaxwell 2019-06-08 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm? They are not up.

[It's resting casually on the sword handle!! gosh!!!]

[closes eyes]

Take your hand off the sword. Nothing is getting destroyed right now.
tothemaxwell: (i'm james bond)

[personal profile] tothemaxwell 2019-06-08 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no intention of drawing my sword until the facts are clear.
foodbin: (pic#13146143)

[personal profile] foodbin 2019-06-08 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
And even when they are, you're not going to immediately do something stupid, right?
nonbelligerent: (the return. 3-6)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-08 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Sol stated that after we found the one responsible, we were to discuss our options.

[read: do not stab yet, please??]
tothemaxwell: (and i've met my match)

[personal profile] tothemaxwell 2019-06-08 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Beyond the vote, do we have many other options?
nonbelligerent: (twisted bird. 11-1)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-08 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That will come after the vote, it seems.
tothemaxwell: (live to die another day)

[personal profile] tothemaxwell 2019-06-08 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
After the vote.

[She repeats the phrase, humming.]

And what if the vote comes out as something different, because people abstain on the death of a child?
nonbelligerent: (the night it rained fire. 19-1)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-08 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Then it's not as if preemptively eliminating her would have changed anything. There is little reason to be hasty.
tothemaxwell: (and i've met my match)

[personal profile] tothemaxwell 2019-06-08 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. In which case, we should determine with our hosts the exact terms of the voting and its consequences.
leaberator: (twenty years.)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-08 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly what do you think you're gonna do?
tothemaxwell: (live to die another day)

[personal profile] tothemaxwell 2019-06-08 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing, for the moment.
leaberator: (hmmmm whatcha say)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-08 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
For the moment, huh?

[ yeah he's taking this well. ]
tothemaxwell: (and i've met my match)

[personal profile] tothemaxwell 2019-06-08 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you defend the life of a single individual over the well-being of everyone here?
leaberator: (is there anything better than pussy?)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-08 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're so sure that that's [ he gestures at her hand on the sword ] the solution? Yeah. I would.
autocatalysis: (нopιng ιт wιll тυrn мe aroυnd)

[personal profile] autocatalysis 2019-06-08 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't doubt that there's some specific method that must be followed in order to actually eliminate the corruption anyway. For all we know, someone taking matters into their own hands might just expose themselves to the taint or otherwise make things worse.

[ sure would be nice if their hosts could explain their options. ]
