week one: trial

Week One: Trial
27 in Competition

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.

The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with a glass box perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Tokidoki, Nana, and Junna's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.

Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. Sol remains quiet, looking over to Lune to allow them to speak first.

"Even if it is a rather daunting task ahead of you, I hope that each of you will not lose hope. One step at a time, one step at a time. It is not hopeless."

When they finish, Sol sits up a little taller in their seat to address everyone.

"I'm only going to say this once. I know it's not an ideal situation, but...the votes count, and the universe only gives one warning. Can we try not to repeat last week?" There's a pause. "You have nine hours. Let's start."

✩★✩

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the second trial!

We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.

As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.

Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

You can, but the chance is pretty high whoever killed Tokidoki did it in self-defense.

Mm, good point...

I guess my questions weren't so off-topic after all! That's good, that he got purified so quickly.
leaberator: (that you only meant well?)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
... Honestly, I'd rather that than the alternative.

[ that he'd succeeded like the other two. they already have their hands full sorry tokidoki!!! ]

Then it's more like--if we find the person who survived an attack, it's more so we can congratulate them. If anything.

I dunno if we should go with "congratulations" right off the bat?

[ there were. probably? easier ways? to kill them? ]

Why not? I think anyone that survives someone trying to kill them should be congratulated.

[ listen. going into a violent rage..... seems fair when someone attacks you!! in akane's mind, that's legit!!! ]

Hold on a minute... I'm not gonna say it's a bad thing that he got purified, 'cause uh, it it's good.

[...]

But wasn't his body kind of weird for a self-defense kill? 'Cause from what I remember before, it sounded like he was the one who didn't have a chance to fight back. Or, like, at all. We were talking about how weird it was that it seemed like he was just lying there letting himself get crushed.
leaberator: (uh yeah i sure hope it does?)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ yyyyeaaaahhhhhhhhhhh he's been trying not to think about that ]

The possibility's there that two corrupted fought each other and someone else unrelated just decided to kill Junna or Nana, yeah. But that's...

[personal profile] hashtaghelping 2019-06-15 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's possible, yeah. But if it does turn out that Junna and Nana were killed by the Corrupted, then...

[he. shrugs. in a horsey way i guess. does that just mean lowering his head??]

It didn't seem like he was fighting, so there might not've been much to defend against. And like, yeah, he was Corrupted, but if he hadn't started doing anything yet, doesn't that mean whoever took him down was just planning on killing someone? You take out the self-defense part and a self-defense kill is just a kill.

... You're not wrong, but we're not really in a position to argue morality right now. Our priority's with finding the people corrupted.

[ which like. kills him inside but whatever ]

Morality schmorality. It's about safety. Sure, whoever did it got someone Corrupted this time, but if they weren't doing it in self defense and they were just out to kill, what happens if they come across someone who's not Corrupted next?

We definitely wanna find the Corrupted people, too, but I don't think we should write off Tokidoki's case either.

Lune told me that the darkness would not lead to such despair that someone would take their own life—but he also then added, "at the very least, not alone."

He also emphasized Tokidoki's desire to help, in the context of corruption.

Sssoooo he just sat there and let someone kill him 'cause he knew he was Corrupted? 'Cause we've got three living killers, still.

[thinking is hard]

Either he agreed to work with someone or there was someone out there who wanted to kill, who wasn't Corrupted, and he just let it happen. Which is all well and good this time, but what happens next time that person wants to off someone?
nonbelligerent: (the return. 3-6)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-15 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know for certain. But it's worth keeping in mind that the corruption may not necessarily cause a desire to kill in itself.

A valid question.

We should probably try and solve the case then, so we can get a better understanding of what actually happened. And why.
