week one: trial
Week One: Trial
27 in Competition
27 in Competition
It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.
The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with a glass box perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Tokidoki, Nana, and Junna's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.
Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. Sol remains quiet, looking over to Lune to allow them to speak first.
"Even if it is a rather daunting task ahead of you, I hope that each of you will not lose hope. One step at a time, one step at a time. It is not hopeless."
When they finish, Sol sits up a little taller in their seat to address everyone.
"I'm only going to say this once. I know it's not an ideal situation, but...the votes count, and the universe only gives one warning. Can we try not to repeat last week?" There's a pause. "You have nine hours. Let's start."

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the second trial!
We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.
As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.
Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.
If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

LOCATION INVESTIGATION
GATEWAY - KITCHEN
As they do this, the area in front of them will seem to rewind. They'll watch the color of the sky change from bright and then return to the darkness that cased over everything on Thursday evening.
A glance back to their exploring party and Sol will incline their head to gesture forward:]
Ready when you are.
[And when they step through the gateway, they will find themselves in the kitchen.]

So, like, I know it was dark and all, but did anyone see or hear anything weird that night? Other than the dream. That might give us somewhere to start while people are checking over the ... victims.

Regarding Tokidoki
There was nothing on his clothes or his hands that suggests where he was at the time of his death. There are also no signs of a struggle.
He also didn't have anything with him at the time. All of his pockets were empty.

So, what, he just lay on his back and let someone hit him with something flat for a long time? What the heck?

THE STATE OF JUNNA
Her cause of death isn't clear yet.
[...]
This is merely conjecture at this point, and we cannot say anything for certain until Lune is able to tell which of the corrupted is dead. However, if it turns out to be Nana, I suspect Nana may have tried to poison her early that night, and the bruise may be from when she collapsed after attempting to flee.
[but he's not licking to check if the jello shot has poison, thanks.]
Junna doesn't have any dirt or dust on her clothing either, so she likely died inside. In particular, perhaps the kitchen, as she and Nana were spending a great deal of time there.

banana pancake :(
[To, uh, put it lightly.]
Her bones are broken, her skin looks like one huge bruise, and she's cut up to hell and back. Most of the cuts look like her skin split from getting tossed around like someone's toy, but— [...] A couple of them were from something sharp. I found pieces of a lightbulb in them, like the ones in the gateway.
[So. That's a hint as to where they should be checking.]
She wasn't carrying anything on her, but there was a burn the size of my fist on her left thigh. The kind that comes from an open flame.

edumacation gonna read us some books
So, Lune was able to get us these. If we can narrow down any possible symptoms on Junna's body, or anything found on the investigations to something in these books, we should be able to confirm if she was actually poisoned or not.
Also some of these are general medical texts, so we might be able to narrow down other evidence on the bodies with these.
no subject
What should we focus on first then? I didn't get a good look at her body, so...I'm not sure what to look for.

[A gesture to the privacy screen North got earlier, assuming it's still there, I'd figure it is??]
Of course, I wouldn't want anyone to be uncomfortable, but-- while we wait on further information and consider what we know, we may as well exhaust what options are available to us.
[he does not sound super thrilled about this, but like, if they're considering potential self-defense...]

Casino Findings
The casino is all messed up. Smashed bottles and glasses all around the bar like someone dropped them. It looks like someone dragged a body to or from the baccarat table that Hisoka-san was playing at the other day, and then there were a bunch more glasses over there that weren't broken and had just liiiittle bits of alcohol left in them.
And this one! [ She lifts the full glass up! ] Valvatorez-san says it's probably poison! He thought maybe we could check it for finger prints, buuut, I'm not sure we have anything for that?
I was thinking, doesn't this seem like the place that Junna could have died? She was poisoned, right?

elevator: a summary by a socially anxious bird
Um. U-um- excuse me- um-
A-About the elevator! [do it for nana, he needs to be better!]
S- So, um, it was really messy, everything in it was... t-terrible. There were a bunch of scorch marks everywhere and- and blood. The lights w-were shattered so, um, there were shards of glass in Nana's body, right? Th- that probably caused those...
Um. [god he should have taken notes or something]
It doesn't l-look like anyone made the elevator fall? The wires and stuff were all intact. Th- the hatch at the top was open a little but it wasn't broken s-so if anyone used it they just used it like normal. U-Um, also the- the blood didn't reach the top of the elevator b-but the burnt bits did.
With her- There, um, there was a first aid kit and Nana's phone. Sol said there- there wasn't anything useful on the phone. They took it. S-so, working with what we have- maybe she was bringing the first aid kit to help someone with an injury? [somebirdie totally missed that we had like an hour long fit of stripping due to the very same injury theories]
... a-and a batch of brownies. That's all we found.

SUMMARY
Alright, we've got less than three hours left and we're floundering a little, so let's try an' consolidate what we got. We've got our three victims-- Tokidoki, Nana, and Junna. Their elements were air, water and earth, though we're only kinda sure Nana had water. Anyway, of those three, we know Tokidoki was corrupted before he died. We had three of those total this week-- the two others are still alive. Speaking of totals, we have the same amount of victims as killers, and all those are alive, so either we have a wild killer on the loose [ which is possible, hisoka is here ] or whoever killed Tokidoki knew he was corrupted. Call it self-defense or preventive, either one's a possibility.
Power use for that night was two water and two air. We don't know exactly which or who used 'em, but we can guess two of the killers are water and air to match our two victims with those same elements. [ unless like one of the victims didn't do it but look, let's not lose ourselves in what ifs in this terrible summary. ]
Tokidoki was crushed to death by something large and rectangular that broke his bones and spine. Whatever it was, he was staying pretty still for it.
Junna died of asphyxiation-- we thought she might've been poisoned, but while there's definite alcohol on her shirt, Kaoru... uh... confirmed [ by smelling a corpse. ] that there was no alcohol on her breath or any kind of other, cyanide-y smell. So if there was any poison involved, it might've been in the air and not anything she ingested. She's got some light bruising, but other than that, that's it. Whenever she was killed was pretty early on, since rigor mortis set in already. [ GOD WAIT HE SHOULD EXPLAIN: ] That's when a human corpse's muscles go all stiff and don't move anymore.
Nana's body... [ yikes. ] To quote North: the definition of overkill. Most of her bones are broken, she's got bruises and cuts all over, and there were pieces of light bulbs-- [ ... so everyone is on the same page, he adds quickly: ] those balls of glass that emanate light-- in her cuts.
[ wow i am STILL GOING, HUH ]
For locations, Shess and Emma checked out the kitchen and found some leftover brownies? And... nothing else, I guess. Whoever decided on making sweets left a regular baking mess, but that's it. It was probably Nana, since she still smelled like them a bit.
Another team went on to check the casino, which had a huge, real mess in there. Smashed bottles, overturned tables, and a glass of alcohol with what appears to be cyanide in it was found? That or it just smells almond-y, but no one is allowed to taste-test it. It also looks like a body was dragged around near the baccarat table.
And then we've got the elevator. There were scorch marks all over it, up 'til near the top. There was also blood, but Kazuaki said that didn't reach the top. The lights were shattered and they found her phone and a messed up first aid kit there, as well as a batch of brownies, so that's probably where she died. She was definitely meeting someone. According to the elevator crew, nothing shoulda made it the elevator fall, as all the wires were intact and the hatch at the top was only open a little, not broken.
[ a beat ]
Oh, yeah. Also, we all stripped.
[ that's all on that one. let's not linger on it! ever!!! ]
I think that covers everything, so... Everyone got it memorized?
[ every FUCKING week. anyway that's it!!!! if i forgot something please pretend otherwise!!!!! ]

We have a mere hour and a half remaining. I too have been caught up in the intricacies of this trial, but I fear we are missing the forest for the trees.
Let us put our heads together, and find our killers. What have we missed? Based on the facts, where can we go from here? Lune and Sol are at our disposal. Let us press them as much as we are able.

Tick Tock Spirit Clock
Everyone must cast a vote. I imagine those of you who attempted to manipulate the process last week will not be so lucky with a repeated performance.
If you are willing to do so, please state who you are leaning towards here. Additionally, if you have experienced a memory gap, please speak up now. Honesty, trust, and forthright behavior will get us furthest, for the moment.

PHONE
Guys, you might wanna take a look at this?
[ on nana's phone, there's a photo where im just gonna copypaste the mod text: is a blurry photo of Nana with someone beside her. The figure next to her is standing on something to boost their height, towering over Nana and effectively cropping the top half of their body out of frame. ]

week one results.
Another chime of the bell resounds at the end of trial.
Lune and Sol will look at each other briefly, then to the rest of the people gathered. Suddenly, their body language shifts as they're brought to attention and face the scroll that was unfurled over the coffins. The words announcing his death are overtaken with black, as if ink has suddenly dripped over the entire surface of the scroll.
The blackness suddenly recedes, revealing the following words.
Futaba was corrupted.
The Corrupted will be taken to be purified. Deliver her spirit by tomorrow, when the sun is highest in the sky, by separating it from her body on this plane.
The Corrupted must be removed from this place to be saved, else the Core grow more restless and more will be overtaken by darkness.
In addition, votes were cast for Four, Hisoka, Kazuaki, Lea, Lili, and Valvatorez.
You are moving forward.
The message will remain even as a dark aura begins to emanate from Futaba....
Following the Corrupted's chance to speak, they will be led to a new house that is created for their containment, identical to the houses that the rest of the participants reside in, encased in a faint light that will intervene in the chance they try to harm anyone else.

week one execution.
As the morning rolls in, a quiet unsteady feeling fills the air of the village. The light around the Corrupted's confinements remains faint, keeping its power in tact for a bit longer.
The moment the sun reaches the highest point in the sky, a faint bell chimes and all will feel compelled to return to the main meeting hall.
When all are gathered, Lune and Sol will enter the room escorting Futaba. The corruption slowly seeps from her as the Signs bring her to the front of the crowd.
Stepping aside, Sol leaves Lune to speak.
"On this day, we must cleanse the darkness that has manifested in Futaba. One of your number has volunteered to complete the task.
If you would please step forward."
Even if it's phrased as a gentle request, Futaba will find herself without much choice as the light that encased her home will encourage her limbs forward if she does not comply. In addition, they will wait for Minato to approach as well.
