Week One: Trial

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.

The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with a glass box perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Tokidoki, Nana, and Junna's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.

Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. Sol remains quiet, looking over to Lune to allow them to speak first.

"Even if it is a rather daunting task ahead of you, I hope that each of you will not lose hope. One step at a time, one step at a time. It is not hopeless."

When they finish, Sol sits up a little taller in their seat to address everyone.

"I'm only going to say this once. I know it's not an ideal situation, but...the votes count, and the universe only gives one warning. Can we try not to repeat last week?" There's a pause. "You have nine hours. Let's start."

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the second trial!

We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.

As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.

Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

Cinnabar looks a bit shocked when the elevator opens. There's a lot in there they want to look at -- but, after glancing over at the other two and giving them a small nod, they turn to look at Sol again. ]

... If I step inside, it's not going to collapse, is it?

[ they weigh a lot, and when they got in with Hisoka the other day, they were already worried it was going to fall - and that was when it was in fine condition. ]

[quailvering]

[............ oh! if it's risky, he can use his special talent]

I- I barely weigh anything, a- and even if it fell, I can fly!

[papawolf]

[ he remembers the scroll, but it's still hard to believe they weigh that much. raising a brow, before he carefully steps inside to check it out. does the bird need a hand up or a lift? ]

[cyclists]

[From outside of the elevator, Sol shakes their head.] You'll be alright. It's safe for checking on things.

[And yet they aren't joining them inside? Even if one of them is a bird it would get crowded, so by the time all three are there, they can get a better look.

The walls of the elevator are obviously scorched as if something hot struck and blackened them. There's...also blood on the floor and the walls. Metal bits and glass from the lights inside the elevator are scattered across the floor in no real pattern, but there's a mangled hunk of something toward the center, along with a smashed box of some kind.]

[globs]

[ Cinnabar at least recognizes the blood for what it is now. ]

... This must be where she died.

[ their voice is cool, despite everything. The mangled... chunk would probably be better observed by someone else with a better idea of what they're looking at, so Cinnabar heads to the box, crouching down to get a better look at it. What's this box! ]

[quailvering]

[he doesn't need one, but looking suddenly at the amount of blood and wreckage... he might]

[either way, as a resident Modern Birdie he will start looking at the mangled junk of something, maybe with directing feral on where's a decent place to set him]

[papawolf]

[ giving a nod at cinnabar. and yeah... he'll try to find a railing or something to set the bird on.

is there anything on the buttons maybe to say if they were going to a particular floor? ]

[Splitting it up this way is actually really smart. Let's start with the mangled junk first. As Kazuaki looks it over from his place on the rail, he of all birdies might recognize the warped hunk of junk as a cell phone. It's mostly just broken but still recognizable, splitting apart but perhaps functional. The buttons on the elevator are also hidden under the scorch marks. Whatever happened in here really coated the walls well.

And meanwhile, Cinnabar will be able to look at this box that's been damaged beyond repair. If they open it, however, they will find what once were bandi-aids, ointments, small supplies of medicine, etc.

Congrats on finding your first med kit! It's useless and unsalvageable now.]

[globs]

... There's a box here.

[ holding up the first aid kit!! They don't know what this is. ]

It looks like some kind of repair kit, maybe.

[ here's where I'd ask if there's anything missing from the box, but Cinnabar wouldn't know. cries. ]

Not that it's going to be of much use now...

[quailvering]

[he tilts his head over at the box Cinnabar is looking at and, thankfully, knows something!]

Y-Yeah! A first aid kit. It's like a repair kit f- for- [... living things?] -organic things! ... so someone was injured?

... and maybe trying to talk to somebirdie?

[he hops down from the rail to try and daintily pick up the mangled cell phone]

[papawolf]

[ it's a good thing there's someone talking who knows about these things.

he will try scratching at whatever is on the buttons and the walls. just scorch?
is there any signs of a device besides the cell phone? ]

[cyclists]

[There's nothing missing, but the box is obliterated so there's that. The phone itself can flicker on if they try to turn it on, but right now it's just...broken. This poor phone.

It's scorch like something burned the inside of the elevator. There's also blood, of course. It seems to stretch up all the way up the walls, too.

So this is fine.]

[globs]

I guess there's no way to tell if it was used in this condition. There's nothing left.

[ hmmm...

Does the scorch and/or blood reach the hatch in the top of the elevator, by any chance? Cinnabar noticed this last time they were here - now they're peering up at the hatch. ]

[quailvering]

... hm... it would really help to see if they were calling someone... o-or, if they took a picture!

[that would be super helpful! ... but it's not booting up]

M- Maybe... if Sol could turn this elevator back t- to how it was then, could they turn back the phone? But I really don't wanna ask them...

[papawolf]

[ feral points to his throat to indicate he can't do any asking himself. you'll have to wing it and do the asking, birb.

he does lean kneel down to off his hand to keep birb from waddling into glass or something. he can take you out to sol if you want. ]

[cyclists]

[The blood doesn't go that far, but the scorch does. Hmm...the hatch still looks closed though from here.

Somebirdie will have to ask if they want information. Sol's sitting outside of the elevator staring at the opposite wall, back toward the scene. No thanks.]

[globs]

I'll ask if one of you opens that door on the ceiling, [ they say, gesturing upwards!! Gotta check out that elevator shaft. Maybe Kazuaki can get it, since he can fly and all. ]

You. Can you restore that thing to its earlier state?

[ then they turn to Sol, pointing at the phone in Kazuaki's feathers. They don't know what that is, either, but it's fine!!!! ]

[quailvering]

O-Oh! Um, I can do that, probably. If it's hard to open, then, um, I can at least check it after he opens it!

[feral seems Strong if the hatch is jammed in any way shape or form- although- he also feels like maybe he should stay with the cell phone. he's the expert, after all.]

[papawolf]

[ okay okay. hold on sol we'll get back to you in a moment so enjoy your vacay a little longer. he'll just hmm...

put the bird on his shoulder and then just jump up to try to open the hatch. he's not a tree like certain clowns okay ]

[cyclists]

[They would ignore this for longer but Cinnabar got their attention, so they pause to look.]

I think so. [They reach forward, waiting for the phone...

...but no, both Kazuaki and Feral are suddenly gone? When they jump, they can see that the hatch is popped open just a little bit but seems fairly undamaged. Force wasn't applied to opening this hatch, it seems, as everything remains in one piece.]

[globs]

[ WELL. ]

Oi. Little one - give me that metal thing so I can give it to Sol.

[ calling up from down in the elevator!! ]

[quailvering]

[oh! oh, he has a nickname!]

O-One second. [to feral] Um, look and see if there's anything you want me to get a closer look at! I need to pass this over.

[and he'll flutter down, fly over the- blood and wreckage, and pass off the phone to Cinnabar]

Um, y- you can just wait for me to be back, if you don't know where to start looking at it. I bet there's something important o-on it!

[papawolf]

[ He'll give a nod, and just carefully pull himself up to see. so is there any indication someone was up here? Did they just drop a fire bomb down into the elevator?
anything for birb needs to inspect? ]

[cyclists]

[Well. There's nothing about the elevator beyond this point. The hatch in the roof is open and unlocked, easy to push open now. If they check out the hatch, the wires around the elevator shaft, etc, are all in tact as well.

Whenever Sol receives the phone, they'll take a look at it. The same rewind magic is applied on a smaller scale, bringing the phone back to a state that it was prior to breaking.

There's nothing useful; it's photos of Nana and her friends....and a lot of food.

Sol won't be giving the phone back though. It's theirs now.]

[globs]

[ Cinnabar's never seen photos before, or a screen, or a phone, so they're a little bewildered by this whole display. ]

I can see her in there... Are those drawings? They look so real.

[ CINNABAR FOCUS ON THE INVESTIGATION. ]
