week one: trial

Week One: Trial
27 in Competition

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.

The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with a glass box perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Tokidoki, Nana, and Junna's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.

Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. Sol remains quiet, looking over to Lune to allow them to speak first.

"Even if it is a rather daunting task ahead of you, I hope that each of you will not lose hope. One step at a time, one step at a time. It is not hopeless."

When they finish, Sol sits up a little taller in their seat to address everyone.

"I'm only going to say this once. I know it's not an ideal situation, but...the votes count, and the universe only gives one warning. Can we try not to repeat last week?" There's a pause. "You have nine hours. Let's start."

✩★✩

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the second trial!

We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.

As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.

Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

I guess if you’ve never met her, you wouldn’t be sure.

[but she just thinks that’s dumb]

There’s other types of poisons though, aren’t there? Not to mention it’s one of the powers available.

[personal profile] hashtaghelping 2019-06-15 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you can put poisons in stuff and you can make 'em, but it's not like you can just make the poison appear in her mouth. She'd still have to drink it to die from it.

[...]

Right?

[personal profile] coastal 2019-06-15 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm... I don’t know.

My familiarity with poisons isn’t that great. Didn’t people say they were going to look into different kinds?

[personal profile] hashtaghelping 2019-06-15 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and they were thinking it was the almond stuff they found inside that glass.

They said it was cyanide. Based off of some of the things around Junna's body - the foaming at the mouth, for example - there's a chance she died of cyanide poisoning.
hashtaghelping: (012)

[personal profile] hashtaghelping 2019-06-15 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
So she'd have to drink it.

But if she's not the type to drink, how did she get poisoned?
nonbelligerent: (twisted bird. 6-3)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-15 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe the poison was a gas, and the drinks are merely a red herring?
hashtaghelping: (012)

[personal profile] hashtaghelping 2019-06-15 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe... but then wouldn't whoever poisoned her have gotten poisoned too? Or wouldn't it have been lingering in the air when they went to investigate?
nonbelligerent: (twisted bird. 11-1)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-15 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's possible they're impervious to poisons. The second part is a good point, though.

[personal profile] hashtaghelping 2019-06-15 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
We have a power that makes poison. Does it make the user immune to poisons, too? Or can some people just not get poisoned?
nonbelligerent: (the night it rained fire. 19-3)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-15 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. We can try asking Lune, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's unable to clarify specific powers for us.

I'll go ask!

[clip-clops back]

Whoever makes a poison with Toxicity is immune to it.
nonbelligerent: (the return. 4-6)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-15 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. Would Toxicity be able to create a gaseous poison, though?

I've been assuming that someone may have used toxicity to make the poison, but if we have water and air users as culprits one can potentially turn invisible, and one can potentially turn into a liquid or gas state.

Both of which would be good for sneaking up on someone.
hashtaghelping: (014)

[personal profile] hashtaghelping 2019-06-15 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe they shoved the poison down her throat then?
stillstands: (55)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
If you plug a person's nose, they'll instinctively breathe through their mouth. Eventually, if not immediately.
hashtaghelping: (031)

[personal profile] hashtaghelping 2019-06-15 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
But wouldn't the person doing the plugging still have to breathe?
stillstands: (18)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
If the poison is a liquid and in the glass then it shouldn't be an issue? Or are we assuming it's a gas now?

[ i'm not on flat view i'm very basic ]

[personal profile] hashtaghelping 2019-06-15 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Shess said it might be a gas.

[...]

But like... that glass is full, but it's still not very big. Even if someone was plugging your nose you could probably hold your breath long enough not to open your mouth while they were trying to pour it in, couldn't you?
stillstands: (82)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Once a mouth is open, it's easier to keep it open.

And this is potent stuff, there's... a whole novel written by an English author about someone who kills more than one person with a drink laced with cyanide.

The one thing that strikes me as odd is that if they did that, Junna should've struggled. Either we should see marks on her assailant or they held her down, but there's no evidence of such on her body either.
stillstands: (131)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So... basically we know she was poisoned, we just don't know how or by who.

That's where powers come in, right? Water powers can make the poison, air powers can make someone dumb enough to drink it.

So that's the how. We still don't know who, though.
