week one: trial

Week One: Trial
27 in Competition

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.

The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with a glass box perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Tokidoki, Nana, and Junna's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.

Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. Sol remains quiet, looking over to Lune to allow them to speak first.

"Even if it is a rather daunting task ahead of you, I hope that each of you will not lose hope. One step at a time, one step at a time. It is not hopeless."

When they finish, Sol sits up a little taller in their seat to address everyone.

"I'm only going to say this once. I know it's not an ideal situation, but...the votes count, and the universe only gives one warning. Can we try not to repeat last week?" There's a pause. "You have nine hours. Let's start."

✩★✩

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the second trial!

We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.

As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.

Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

Well... yes. But a bolt of lightning might explain the scorch marks in the elevator.

No scorch on her. Old burn only.

[ Which is the ???? part. All those burns but she only had the old one on her leg? A look over to North to double check. ]

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Then where did all these scorch marks come from?
papawolf: (☾??????)

[personal profile] papawolf 2019-06-15 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ hmm he has NO IDEA ]

arson?
1. hiding something
2. frame someone
3. covering for someone

The fire reaches the top, right? That's where the lights are. That'd be enough for at least a couple of those.

[ but he wasn't like. there when they saw the scene of the crime so ]

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what they said, but that requires a lot of fire. And no fire users were there - I know you can make fire in other ways but wouldn't there be evidence of it left behind?
leaberator: (no one will ever be able to hate you)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I mean-- those lights got broken somehow. Fire's not the only thing that can make scorch marks, electricity can, too.

[ which is an air power. ]

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Right.

But Nana didn't have any fresh burn marks on her - and if she'd been in there when someone used that bolt, she'd have far more than just an old burn wound. So, where was she?
leaberator: (how do you know what's good for me?)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Would she still have been struck if she'd used "Evaporeon"?

[ he's throwing things and seeing if anything sticks tbh ]

That's what I'm suggesting. We don't know how quickly it works, but if it takes a second she might have still been solid enough to be cut by the glass from the light bulbs.

And if she was just thinking of escaping, and not the direction she was escaping in and picked wrongly...

[ Miki pauses, and pulls a face, before raising a hand and--

letting it drop like a stone into her palm. ]

... although we don't know how long they can maintain a gas or liquid form for.

Water could burst the lights, also. Water and electricity don't mix.
leaberator: (the fuck? the fuck is in the air)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding.

[ rip demyx and larxene, his main example of that, ]

She could've tried to defend herself from whatever was happening and caused the scorch marks, yeah.
lionharts: (think.)

[personal profile] lionharts 2019-06-15 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a theory at least, though no one to tie the electricity to, yet, right?

Things would be easier if we know who had what element...

[ giving a nod. he'll try to draw how far the marks go up. and make a line about where the blood stops and write blood next to it. he's not fabulous at drawing, but it's easy enough to get. ]

could the light bulbs cause the fire?
maybe someone tried to help her?
leaberator: (next to a bANANANA)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The light bulbs coulda caused the fire, yeah. Electricity's pretty volatile.

[ the picture helps a lot he's gonna pin it on the fridge

they don't have a fridge but the point is thank u wolf man ]
papawolf: (And leave the rest unspoken)

[personal profile] papawolf 2019-06-15 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Still doesn't explain why she is scorch free, but it's something to consider.

And he's trying his best. ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ ]

twinsightful: (ALERT ♜ Oh I see)

[personal profile] twinsightful 2019-06-15 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially since in an enclosed space, the lightning wouldn't have anywhere to go. But then wouldn't it have hit whoever was in there?
stillstands: (101)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
There's nothing in water or air that could protect someone, if--

[ ... Wait? ]

Evaporeon? Right now, we think Nana was a Water user, right?
twinsightful: (CALM ♜ Let's focus)

[personal profile] twinsightful 2019-06-15 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I think so. What exactly are you thinking though?
stillstands: (90)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Assuming someone did use a lightning bolt in there: if someone was attacking you, dangerously, in a small enclosed space with something as deadly as a lightning bolt, wouldn't your instinct be to escape in any way you could?
twinsightful: (Default)

[personal profile] twinsightful 2019-06-15 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...I would try to either dodge out of the way or get somewhere they couldn't see me. If it's enclosed though there isn't a lot of places you can go, are there?
stillstands: (4)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
No. And if there's lightning bouncing around in there, your only option might be to flee outside of the elevator.

[ So, the next question is: ]

If you use Evaporeon, how long does it last?
twinsightful: (ALERT ♜ Oh?)

[personal profile] twinsightful 2019-06-15 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I'm not a water user. [Which Miki should know, actually. But that...] If you're controlling it, couldn't you in theory let it run as long as you want?
stillstands: (5)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ gosh what could he be. ]

... [ mrrgrrgrr. ] We can't even ask Sol or Lune for more details yet, if at all. They just look like they're going to implode while trying to tell us.

But can you really use them indefinitely? If you could go invisible whenever you wanted, wouldn't you just stay that way long term if everyone you know is a potential killer?
leaberator: (no one will ever be able to hate you)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
When I asked, they said it could last up to a couple of hours.
