Week Two

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Lune who speaks up first this time.

"Good morning, good morning. You've done well to purge the corruption in the previous gateway - allow us to assist with the finishing touches. For the time being, it would appear as though we've been able to locate another. The land might appear a bit familiar to some however... I only advise you watch your step."

When Lune finishes, Sol chimes in from their place at Lune's side.

"The corruption is still out there, and we're going to do all that we can to find a way to contain it. But until then... stick close to others this week. Do your best to protect yourselves and look after each other. Okay?"

The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.

The only oddity is that throughout the week, in a noise that extends past the portal but seems to resound even through the village, there will be the occasional, resounding call of a war horn.

In addition, as the week goes on, partners will find ever-growing feelings of anxiety and nervousness dwelling within them the longer they are separated from one another. They will feel compelled to be very close to their partners at all times, and will be on edge if separated for more than an hour by the end of the week. Welcome to surprise codependence at its finest.

I'm not sure! It's a little hard to concentrate!

[ while they're running and there is a bear going after them? it's really why she didn't agree on being good with her powers; if she gets too distracted, naminé really is not that great at it. ]

[ Tripping it would make it angry...... but it'll also slow it down. ]

If you think that's best, give it a shot!

[ Do what you want, Naminé. Also take the blame for whatever happens, Minato isn't very helpful here. ]

but naminé looks over her shoulder and... well, tries to concentrate, which is still pretty difficult at the moment. but a couple of weeds start moving, and they try to tangle around the bear's feet. it. kind of works? as in, it does slow it down just a bit, but not really enough for them to get away safely.

it's good practice anyway. ]

[ ANY IDEA IS A GOOD IDEA when it's not Minato's.

Either way, it looks like it worked, and Minato helps out by dropping a few more apples out of his bag. Maybe the bear will trip on them. Maybe it'll stop and eat them. Minato doesn't wait and see, just keeps running for the exit. ]

[whitewalls]

[ they will just nyoom out of there, and she will stop trying to trip the bear because honestly she's probably going to end up tripping as well if she does

but there's a light at the end of the tunnel, a light that is probably not death. ]

The exit!

[ It's the exit!!! The light is sunlight in front of them, so bright that Minato has to squint and try to peer out through his lashes so that he doesn't stumble getting outside, fresh air and a cool breeze, Minato turning to Naminé with a smile on his face and

the smile drops

Because there is light behind them, too. That light is a fire, lava touching the weeds and catching them on fire. The bear is somewhere inside. ]

[whitewalls]

[ oh

she turns around to see what he's looking at and that's-- not good. naminé looks back at minato, her eyes with horror. ]

We need to put the fire out.

[ neither of them are water ]

[compendiem]

[ Do they have to? It's a question Minato has but does not voice. ]

Okay... [ He doesn't move, because neither of them are water. ]

...Dirt puts out fire, I think? As long as we cut off the oxygen supply...

[ All they have to do is block the mouth of the cave, easy, easy. A ready made oven for bear meat. ]

[whitewalls]

[ listen she does not want to burn the forest down. it they find out the bird burned to death because they set a bear cave on fire, she will be very sad ]

Okay! Dirt! Got it.

[ He waits for Naminé to act first. Though. Plants would probably just feed the fire. ]

so she is now going to, you know, attempt to put this fire out via a dirt bath ]

[ Oh, so she can do it. Minato watches on proudly as Naminé continues to get better and better with managin her powers, pulling the collar of his shirt up over his nose and mouth so he doesn't breathe in any of the dirt, and wondering how deep into the cave the fire's spread. He won't bring that up.

He steps forward, and kicks some dirt into the cave. Helping. ]

[whitewalls]

[ he's helping so much

but, from what she can see, most of the fire seems to be out. maybe there is still more further in. it's a mystery, but it's also too smokey to comfortable go in without breathing that in. ]

I wonder if that worked...

[compendiem]

I wonder...

[ Minato takes a step back away from the cave. ]

Maybe somebody will see the smoke signals and come to help.

[ Help put out the fire? No. Help escort these two lost kids out of the forest where they don't belong. ]

[whitewalls]

Maybe...

[ ... ]

Let's walk a little bit away from the cave though so we don't smell this...

[compendiem]

[ Yeah... let's get away from the evidence and pretend they had nothing to do with it. They're going to start smelling roasting flesh soon too, so... yeah let's go. ]

I wonder if there's even anybody else in this forest or if they've all died.

[whitewalls]

... I'm not sure. They could have left and gone somewhere else, especially if it's dangerous.

[ she'll readjust her hold on his hand since they're no longer running for their lives. ]

[compendiem]

That's... probably the smart thing to do.

[ I forgot whether Minato was talking about the people who set the traps or the other PCs but it makes sense that they're all either gone or dead.

He swings their hands lightly between them while he leads her around the cave. ...On top of it. Sort of like a mini-mountain, or a very very thick and uneven tree branch that'll let them travel a little bit further without having to risk the ground. ]

[ can't believe we killed off the other characters and just won survivor

but this is fine. she has, admittedly, used her power a lot on this trip and is kind of getting her power supply or, however that works, exhausted. they are definitely not getting catapulted now. ]

What else happens in forests in video games?

[compendiem]

[ This is how you win, by hanging out in a cave for a bit while the rest of the competition die in traps. ]

Forests... are usually the starting dungeon. It's where you learn to fight. A tree branch is usually the first weapon. Sometimes there's a tree that's a different color than the rest- that's where we can stop and rest. It's safe, there. [ what else, what else... ]

When it gets dark, the ghosts come out.

[whitewalls]

The ghosts?

[ huh

she glances up at the sky, trying to gauge how long it might be until it goes dark. probably not very long, considering how much time they have wasted with their various very bad ideas since starting this journey. ]

That's spooky.

[compendiem]

Yeah.

[ Minato doesn't seem too bothered by it, though. Maybe because he knows ghosts aren't real, maybe because he likes ghosts. ]

But if we do find one, we could ask how to get out of this place. Or they will kill us. But I think it's worth taking the chance.

[whitewalls]

They won't kill us. That'll be kind of sad after we escape a bear.

[ her reasoning for not dying via ghost is that it's REALLY STUPID ]

[ I can think of so many sadder ways to die, but unfortunately, Akane's already laid claim on both their deaths. ]

Yeah... The bear is probably an optional boss? We can come back later, after we've leveled up. See if we'd do any better.

[whitewalls]

We'll need to strategize better then? We weren't really well prepared.

[ the bear is probably dead now but
