Week Two

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Lune who speaks up first this time.

"Good morning, good morning. You've done well to purge the corruption in the previous gateway - allow us to assist with the finishing touches. For the time being, it would appear as though we've been able to locate another. The land might appear a bit familiar to some however... I only advise you watch your step."

When Lune finishes, Sol chimes in from their place at Lune's side.

"The corruption is still out there, and we're going to do all that we can to find a way to contain it. But until then... stick close to others this week. Do your best to protect yourselves and look after each other. Okay?"

The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.

The only oddity is that throughout the week, in a noise that extends past the portal but seems to resound even through the village, there will be the occasional, resounding call of a war horn.

In addition, as the week goes on, partners will find ever-growing feelings of anxiety and nervousness dwelling within them the longer they are separated from one another. They will feel compelled to be very close to their partners at all times, and will be on edge if separated for more than an hour by the end of the week. Welcome to surprise codependence at its finest.

...You would be free to. I would be sad, but I wouldn't stop you. Likely, I would go off and do something foolish, if I didn't have you with me.

picks the wrong dialogue option, which is just as well since he needs to be free to burn his hand.

Four takes her hand back, and she limps her way to the horse. ]

Have you considered just not doing anything foolish?

[compendiem]

[ I laughed but Minato doesn't, sliding his hands back into his pockets while he trials after Four, giving her question just the slightest bit of thought but there's really no need to, because he shakes his head. ]

Things people think are foolish, I don't, necessarily. Like wanting to protect somebody, or... suggesting unorthodox methods to bypass a forest.

[forefall]

You can be unorthodox and unconventional without being foolish. I understand walking into danger to do something good. My sisters and I started a coup for that reason, but you veer in a direction that makes people wonder.

[ Nearing the horse, Four stalls. Getting on the horse is going to hurt her more one way or another. ]

[compendiem]

[ It's hard to understand, when Minato could be doing the most mundane thing and people give him weird looks. He crouches in front of the horse and digs into his bag to see if he has any more apples left, setting them on the ground in front of the horse. ]

What were you couping?

[forefall]

[ The horse deserves many apples for putting up with both of them.

Four's face twists with derision. ]

Rotten lords who neglected their lands and their people. Horrible despots that didn't deserve the position they were in.

[compendiem]

[ It does, but Minato's trying to get it to lie down so it'll be easier for them to climb on. The horse just reaches down with its long neck and chomps on the apples right on the ground, though. ]

...I thought you were the queen of your castle?

[ does that not make her the ruler, he's confused ]

[forefall]

[ That's actually not a half bad plan... Too bad the horse is having none of it. It wants to be ready to run away if it gets attacked. ]

... How do you think I became the ruler of my country? I wasn't always the ruler.

[compendiem]

[ The horse looks about ready to run away from the two of them now, standing around talking while surrounded by corpses. ]

Ah... Sort of what that guy is doing. The... um. [ Baren but he doesn't know his name ] who wanted us to bring back the scrolls.

[forefall]

[ The battle isn't completely over yet. The sound of metal and gunshots still ring the distance. There are only more soldiers and more corpses.

What if... after the horse is done eating, it just trots away? ]

Is it what he's doing? I don't know if I can call it similar or not, but my sisters and I won.

[ Obviously. ]

[compendiem]

To have to call for our help, I wonder if—-

[ The horse trots away ]

[forefall]

[ Bye, horse.

Four is stunned, then stricken, then annoyed. ]

Why does this have to happen?!

[compendiem]

Murphy's law.

[ With a sigh, Minato goes to pick up his nailbat. It's awkward and unwieldy, but the one good thing about it is that it's ridiculously long, almost five feet long. He holds it out to Four, by her bad side. ]

Here, use this as a crutch.

[forefall]

[ she doesn't know murphy's law

She takes the bat and shifts her weight to lean on it, but she points at his foot. ]

What about you?

[compendiem]

[ Minato glances down at his foot, which is probably overflowing his shoe with blood at this point, but he does his best to ignore that. ]

I can hop on one foot.

[forefall]

You're an idiot.

[ She's tired and hurt and angry but mostly just tired. ]

Don't do that.

[compendiem]

...Yeah, I'm sorry. Is it okay if I rely on you a little longer?

[ He really didn't want to hop on one foot all the way back, he would fall over in two hops ]

[forefall]

[ Four looks conflicted for a brief moment before she sighs. ]

I give up. Come here. We'll lean on each other.

[ Or his nail bat. Most likely his nail bat. ]

[compendiem]

[ He looks grateful as he steps in a little closer, hand right by Four's where her hand grips the handle of the nailbat. They can hobble back together like this... the saddest three legged race because that's really all the legs they have between them. ]

[forefall]

[ they make it back to safety only for minato to go back out and put his hand in a lava bowling ball. ]

[ Yeah...... yeah, that sure happens ]
