week three: trial

Week Three: Trial
22 in Competition

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.

The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with the glass boxes perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Swift Wind and Hisoka's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.

Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. It's only when everyone has gathered that Sol speaks first.

"We've got a lot of ground to cover today. Don't give up."

They stop, glancing at Lune and gesturing for them to say their piece.

"Face the truth directly, and don't turn away from what you may find."

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the fourth trial!

We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.

As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.

Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

... When Swift Wind was corrupted, I asked him about the method he used to kill Junna and Fujino. He said the cyanide we found at the scenes was real— but so was the the strychnine he used to actually poison them.

[Which is. Bad.]

I asked Sol about it on Monday, since it worried me. Apparently, Toxicity can make as many poisons as needed in an allotted amount of time. But only within that period.

Well that’s horrendous.

I’d like to change my power.

No kidding.

But think on the bright side. This means that whoever conjured up the poison can't do it again until the week is over.

... I suppose.

Do poisons lose potency over time? Or is there a chance that someone might create a reserve of poisons for themselves? I don’t know anyone else with Toxicity and obviously I would never...

But if they thought to... Couldn’t they do that to poison someone, and then still demonstrate their power later?

If Lili is cleared... That means the list is Feral, Squall, Grim Eyes, Julius, Xion, and Saix.

[...]

Saix said he was tied to Swift Wind during the night, right? So - the options are that someone else cut them apart, since we found hoofprints, or...

... That's the thing. The rope didn't look like it was cut. More like it was untied, or it just slipped free in the middle of the night.

[Hm.]

But Sol said we had everything we needed, right? So - there's no breaking and entering in this scenario, or we'd need to investigate the house.

... He wouldn't kill his own partner. That doesn't make sense.

[ or so they'd like to think. They don't sound as certain as their words do. ]

It wouldn't have been him at the time.

If it were him, it would make sense that the horse would trust him and that it would have slipped free of the ropes so easily. He could have just untied them. And it removes the question of how he wasn't dragged around at night, as well.

[ just thinking aloud. ]

Then...

...Isn't there a chance that this poison Swift Wind's creation? I can't imagine why, but is it not possible?

Only if someone filched a sample before the last two gateways disappeared.

Could he not have created it on the night he was murdered?

Only if he were forced to do it by some mean.

I do not think we should discount the possibility.

Perhaps another toxicity user swapped their glasses, leading Swift Wind to believe he was drinking something safe. It's simply a theory.
