week three: trial
Week Three: Trial
22 in Competition
22 in Competition
It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.
The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with the glass boxes perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Swift Wind and Hisoka's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.
Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. It's only when everyone has gathered that Sol speaks first.
"We've got a lot of ground to cover today. Don't give up."
They stop, glancing at Lune and gesturing for them to say their piece.
"Face the truth directly, and don't turn away from what you may find."
✩★✩
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the fourth trial!
We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.
As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.
Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.
If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

LOCATION INVESTIGATION
FARMLANDS
As they do this, the area in front of them will seem to rewind. They'll watch the color of the sky change from bright and then return to the darkness that cased over everything on Thursday evening.
A glance back to their exploring party and Sol will incline their head to gesture forward:]
You might want to check on them first.
[Them...? It'll become clear who, exactly, they mean as they enter the scene to the sound of distressed, frantic clucking, the chicken coop destroyed and several chickens running amok across the farmlands.]

ASIDE FROM THE HORSEFUCKING; corrupted count
[ pause, because man it really would have been stupid if the horse they put so much effort into saving got recorrupted, but then he died anyway so what's the point!!! ]
Lune has said that we're only looking at one corrupted this week, but wasn't able to divulge the number of total killers as of yet or whether any of them were repeats due to 'circumstances.'

state of the hisoka
[he personally does not sound too torn up about it.]
Judging by the, ah, consistency of those pieces, his ability must have been Rock Solid and seems to have been in effect when he died. The pieces don't appear to have any particular reason to where they've been split, and there were vines protruding from his back and wrists in particular... also, the edges of some of those pieces were damp with what appears to be just water. As for what else was on him--
[shirasu has probably used larger pieces of fabric from hisoka's clothes to hold these. five pieces of gum, a disgusting sardine, and some white, fluffy feathers.]
This was all I located. No weaponry, and no other items.

state of the horse
[Is she annoyed? She sounds annoyed. Someone cucked her deathcuck??]
First of all, his legs and wings were bound by rope — but was no sign that he struggled against whoever tied him up, and it didn't look like that person had a hard time getting him to lay still. There was one piece of rope that looked like it could have been attached to something, but — again? No sign of what that could have been. [@ the killer, fuq u.] Swift Wind himself was... sweaty. And his mouth smelled like almonds, just like the cyanide we found on the previous weeks. There was a bit of blood coming out of his nostrils, too, but no sign of any external injuries.
I searched for any sign that he could have been pricked by a dart, or ingested something before he died... That turned up nothing. Though I did find traces of dirt under his hooves, like he was somewhere with soft soil.

Maybe they weakened him somehow before tying him up?

Hisoka was at the farmlands. The chicken coop was damaged, like it was hit with something, and there were these - [ in his free hand, he holds up a leaf that's hardened and sharp ] - all over, along with puddles of water.
It looks like he fought someone around the orchard. There were trees fallen, some split, and vines everywhere - some of them had thorns with blood on them. There was more water, and... cards.
[ playing cards. kara shows the ones that he and shess found, covered in blood and dirt. he doesn't know that they're missing any cards though, someone else will have to say that. ]
Shess found the omamori from last week there, and the cat ears.
...And there were hoof prints, leading toward the ampitheater. So there's a chance that Swift Wind was there, too.

whomp whomp killer whomp
[ a beat ]
Can I just say, for the record, fire has never been involved in anything? Does the corruption think we stink? I mean, I'm completely fine with that, but you gotta wonder.
[ anyway. ]
Lune wouldn't confirm either way, but I think the chances are pretty high that whoever killed Hisoka did it because they were both involved in Kazuaki's death. It's probable he was messing with me, but Thursday morning-- Hisoka'd been pretending his power was water the whole time, but he showed off his vines and talked about how that night was a "big night". So the options are he was either trying to drive me insane again or he had some idea something might go on.

[ It's... not impossible to take Hisoka by surprise. She learned that herself this week. ]

AMPHITHEATRE FINDINGS WHILE THE MEETING HALL BURNS, I GUESS;
Swift Wind. He was capable of walking on his own through the amphitheatre, farmlands, and back to the village. There were some other tracks missed in with his, but none identifiable as human- just small animals. At the amphitheatre we found a lot of apple based or related foods, all pretty well made.
[ pause, possibly to check on the status of the Shirasu-and-Axel situation, because I guess this is happening. ]
The food was a complete mess, but for whatever reason his hoofprints didn't indicate any sign of struggle- they maintained a leisurely pace, not a frantic one like someone who was fighting for their life would be. No sign of any ropes, his killer's prints, or even that there was anyone with him in the theater?
[ maybe they rode the horse out to a party before killing him, who knows!! ]
Oh, and Valvatorez says he found traces of cyanide in one of the glasses there.
[ if I missed something BLAME IT ON SHIRASU ]

[Because last she checked, Saix had been tied to Swift Wind, so in her mind it's important to determine if Saix was around in any form when the horse died]

HEY.
[ When you're done arguing over who cracks in which of Shirasu's limbs!! ]
Axel's fine for the moment. But there's... probably something I'm not able to heal with what I have. Sol and Lune can help, but the condition is that we have to cast five correct votes for someone who committed a crime this week.
So I suggest we stop arguing over someone we missed the chance to catch last week, and focus on who committed this week's crimes.

SUMMARY
We have two dead, two killers, one of which is corrupted. Obviously, finding the corrupted is the priority, though we have confirmation that Shirasu was involved in Kazuaki's murder, and it's possible that Hisoka was as well, as I said. [ he's slightly bitter anyway moving on ] Shirasu has been incaciptated for the moment.
We know that two water powers were used, and one earth. However, Hisoka was earth and used Rock Solid. It's possible one of the powers used was from Swift Wind, but we don't have confirmation on that. Two earth manipulations and one water manipulation was used. We also have all the evidence we need to solve the case of the corrupted.
We know that Swift Wind was released from the ropes, walked through the amphitheater, farmlands, and back to the village, along with other unidentifiable prints, soe of which resembled those of animals. In the amphitheater there was a plethora of apples and apple-based foods, most of which had been trampled despite the lack of Swift Wind struggling. From the hoof prints, we could tell he was walking leisurely, rather than fighting, there was no indication of his ropes or his killer's presence. He may have been ridden.
There was an empty glass that smelled of cyanide. However, I believe he was tied up again after all that.... It's strange. There were hoofprints leading back towards the houses.
Hisoka was also at the farmlands, and there was damage to the surroundings, indicating a fight around the orchard. The chicken coop was damaged as if it had been hit with something, and there were hardened and sharpened leaves all over, along with pools of water. Bloody cards were present.

DING DONG 10 MINUTES TO SPIRIT CLOCK IN
As it stands from Miki's discovery, we have a corrupted candidate. I urge you to point your votes in Xion's direction and not to divert yourself from the truth in front of you.
[She's still got Shirasu held though, so. Step off.]
RESULTS;
Another chime of the bell resounds at the end of trial.
Lune and Sol will look at each other briefly, then to the rest of the people gathered. Suddenly, their body language shifts as they're brought to attention and face the scroll that was unfurled over Swift Wind and Hisoka's coffins. The words announcing their deaths are overtaken with black, as if ink has suddenly dripped over the entire surface of the scroll.
The blackness suddenly recedes, revealing the following words.
Xion was corrupted.
The Corrupted will be taken to be purified. Deliver her spirit by tomorrow, when the sun is highest in the sky, by separating it from her body on this plane.
The Corrupted must be removed from this place to be saved, else the Core grow more restless and more will be overtaken by darkness.
In addition, votes were cast for Shirasu.
You are moving forward.
The message will remain even as a dark aura begins to emanate from Xion...
Following the Corrupted's chance to speak, they will be led to a new house that is created for their containment, identical to the houses that the rest of the participants reside in, encased in a faint light that will intervene in the chance they try to harm anyone else.
In addition, Axel will find his injuries sustained during this trial healed.

[ after that last terrified protest, xion suddenly falls eerily silent. then, she rises from her position on the ground, shoving lea away with complete and utter disregard despite her previous clinging to his side and refusing to move. from there, walks to the center of where trial was held, the darkness trailing behind her.
when she blinks and reopens her remaining eye, it's yellow, rather than her usual blue. ]
I thought you all were rooting for the clown to die from day one. I like to think I did us all a favor. [ she laughs. ] But, you know... darkness isn't so bad. Light can't exist without it. [ she points to sol and lune. ] Do you think they're telling you all the whole truth about why you're here?
Who's the real sham here?

WEEK THREE: EXECUTION
As the morning rolls in, a quiet unsteady feeling fills the air of the village. The light around the Corrupted's confinements remains faint, keeping its power in tact for a bit longer.
The moment the sun reaches the highest point in the sky, a faint bell chimes and all will feel compelled to return to the main meeting hall.
When all are gathered, Lune and Sol will enter the room escorting Xion. The corruption slowly seeps from her as the Signs bring her to the front of the crowd.
Stepping aside, Sol leaves Lune to speak.
"On this day, we must cleanse the darkness that has manifested in Xion. One of your number has volunteered to complete the task.
If you would please step forward."
Even if it's phrased as a gentle request, Xion will find herself without much choice as the light that encased her home will encourage her limbs forward if she does not comply. In addition, they will wait for Shess to approach as well.
