The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

[ Isn't that what she is? Minato waits until she lets it all out before trying to find a moment of silence to speak up again—- this is where he would raise his hands in a placating gesture, if he could be bothered to take them out of his pockets, so he just shrugs and imagines he did it instead. ]

They must be persistent, to have it happen more than once. Are they the same people each time?

Ugh, have you never heard of kidnapping and ransom for political gain before? That's basic!

Wouldn't kidnapping just make them look worse?

[ This is not how you gain power??? ]

It depends on the situation - if the hostage is important enough, you can extort plenty out of the people who want them back.

I don't plan on waiting for my kingdom to be put in that situation. I intend to leave this place as soon as possible.

[ Unsaid, is the implication that Lili is a very important person, enough so that people are being extorted in order to get her back. That's terrible. Minato never wants to be that important. ]

I guess... yeah. If you're important to lots of people, you should go home. I'll help think of a way too, to get you back.

I do need to go home. [because she is an important person, and she doesn't want to be a useless liability to the people important to her]

[ He doesn't think so. He did all he had to do... presumably. A gunshot, a white light. Peace, ignorance, and then death. ]

Well... if everybody leaves through the same door, it doesn't matter.

You do.

[she tilts her head]

Would you rather stay here? Instead of going back to your home?

[compendiem]

[ He doesn't answer her immediately, because... Because he doesn't have a home to go back to, or something. Because he gave up on his home? Because this place has birds and horses and he loves those so much more than people. He already did everything he could for his people.

He shrugs. ]

Eventually, maybe I'll go. But as long as we're here, we should focus on getting you out. When it comes to leaving, I'll deal with it then.

.... you're an odd person.

[and the thing is that she doesn't think that she likes it? lili has quite the attachment to her homeland, but she'll just shake her head and look around at the different scrolls]

I want to get out - but everyone else should get a chance to, too.

So we should focus on everyone leaving... or at least having the opportunity.

Hmm, yeah. Everybody getting the chance sounds good.

[ If that's the case... Here, two options: ]

Tower or pit?

Do you mean in regards to the gates?

A pit would be safer as long as we get enough people to help that it wouldn't take too long.

Oh. [ He was thinking they could dig through the center of the earth, but the gate would be smarter. ]

Yeah. Less dangerous, right? There's a garden, so there's probably shovels?

Minato follows silently behind her, letting Lili lead the way but staying in her periphery at all times, hands in his pockets, sweeping glances left and right as he surveys the area. Different from Tartarus... The place is too open. Too bright.

He also wouldn't have any idea where in a garden to look for a shed or whatever, so god bless Lili ]

[i mean lili doesn't really have any idea either - the chances of her literally looking everywhere with even the slightest hope for it is high.

[ Minato does not offer his own name in return. Presumably, she's read it off a scroll, so he can't be bothered to give it to her himself. ]

Uh. [ He pauses, because maybe he said it wrong. ] Pleased to meet you?

No - don't be dense. I meant your name.

[ It's impossible for Minato not to be dense in my hands; Lili's best bet would be to be as straightforward as possible. Even more than she is now. ]

Minato Arisato. You can call me whatever, though.

Why don't you want to go home?

[ Minato shrugs, a silent gesture that speaks magnitudes— and at the same time, nothing at all. He doesn't really know, to start. The ambivalence is there. He has to wonder if there's even a world to go back to, whether he can face it all again.

What he says is ]

Because I'm curious why we're here.

[ And that isn't a lie either. ]

[ . . . well, he makes a good point. lili is used to being targeted or kidnapped for political gain but - ]

A notable scholar?

A particularly difficult rebel?

Definitely not noble. [ Or a noble, for that matter. ] Don't think I'm a notable anything, either. A rebel... depends on who you ask?

[ He can be a rebel, but the difficulty isn't in fighting against him, it's in dealing with his personality. ]
