The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

[She pauses, though, because she does want to find a way out despite the way that tone grates on her.]

If you want to give me a lift, I can see if I can reach the top.

If you want something like that, it'd be better to try someone with more muscle.

[to be honest!! but she'll sigh]

I can try but... if I drop you, it's not my fault.

It's a less obnoxious option than trying to open a gate that I doubt is going to budge.

[She looks up at it, frowning slightly.]

Well, I'll only blame you a little. Let's go.

[she's probably joking]

[there's a vague look of confusion like why would you avoid trying something just because it might be obnoxious

ANYWAY LILI'S JUST GOING TO MOVE CLOSER TO THE GATE which they definitely won't be able to climb over but

here we are]

See if there's a lock or anything that might be sealing it shut.

[foodbin]

I'll check. Are you ready?

[Time to get a boost!!]

Yes.

[what lili lacks in literally everything, she makes up for in willpower. she'll interlace her hands so that emma can step into the lock of them and get lifted up]

[Without a word, she puts a foot into Lili's hands, bracing her hands against the gate itself so she doesn't lose balance as she's lifted up.]

LILI ISN'T PARTICULARLY STRONG but she an at least give a little bit of a boost!! she's trying her best here]

See anything?

[She tries to stretch to make herself taller, peering all over before she sighs.]

No... I can't even see the top of the gate. It must be pretty high.

[coastal]

[UGH

she makes an irritated noise]

I'm going to let you down.

[SHE HAS TO FIND ANOTHER IDEA NOW!!!]

[foodbin]

[She steps down as Lili lowers her, frowning at the gate once more.]

You think we could find an axe in that place with all the weaponry...?

[coastal]

It would be worth looking...

It's better than giving up.

[she has no intention of doing that apparently]

[foodbin]

Can't hurt, at least. I think it was this way.

[She inclines her head in that direction, starting to move that way.]

[coastal]

[lili will immediately stride forward - at first she doesn't bother to adjust her steps to accommodate emma, moving confidently and quickly as anything]

if they're apparently gonna try to fucking axe the gate together]

[She gives a small smile in return as she nods, then looks back towards the path.]

I'm Emma. If it weren't for... whatever the hell is going on, I'd say it's nice to meet you.

[coastal]

[what about this warrants a smile... she looks quietly perplexed for a second but will mostly just move on....]

In better conditions, maybe we could've gotten tea instead of an axe.

[foodbin]

Well, hopefully the axe will at least be useful.

[And as such, she's moving inside as they reach it to look for an axe.]

[ . . . ugh.

she wrinkles her nose]

... there's far too many weapons here....

[foodbin]

Yeah. Kind of makes you wonder why they'd put this here, right?

[Bad!]

There's a list of 'powers' as well - presumably ones that people are able to access.

[she hates it]

None of them seem very suited to being helpful.

[foodbin]

Yeah. If you're right, I kind of wonder what they're expecting us to fight.

[coastal]

... we still don't know what might be outside. Or what happens when the sun falls.

[it's still not exactly a good thing to consider but

it's somehow better than thinking about having to fight anything that might be inside]

[foodbin]

[The first point makes sense to her, but she tilts her head at the second.]

Are you used to weird shit happening after sunset, or...?

[coastal]

It can depend. Attacks of all sorts can happen more effectively under the cover of darkness - it's commonly employed in raids, espionage, interceptions...

[there's probably an axe in here somewhere though]

You think we're going to get some kind of sneak attack?

[Before she gets an answer, though—]
