INTRO LOG
Week Zero
32 in Competition
32 in Competition
The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.
A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.
Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.
Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.
It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.

Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.
Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

Is that where we are?

[ it's too green. ]

[ There's nowhere like this near Minato's industrial harbor city, and he doesn't think he's ever lived in a place like this even with all the places he's lived in moving around in his childhood. ]
But this sort of place is nice, too. Idyllic?

[ a tired sort of flat look, but it doesn't seem to be entirely directed at minato, and even further mellowed by an edge of... something, so. ]
Maybe they were hoping the uncanny serenity of this place would be a distraction.
[ oh. guess that's the something. ]

ANY HOUSE, YOU SAY...
[hello and welcome to screaming bird house]
[kazuaki, who was just recovering from the last time someone bust in to look for their things, shoots right back under the covers]
[the covers are shaking pretty strongly]
I- I- I- I'm sorry! I'll put up a nameplate! I'm sorry!

Unless you were the one who brought us all here you have nothing to apologize for.
[ it's. sort of snapped out, sort of not, really just delivered with a clear and decisive firmness in hope of stopping the blanket pile from any further outbursts.
he doesn't do the reassuring thing well, gomen. ]

N- No way, I don't have any sort of power like that! I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to be here or not!
[he might still apologize a lot though, it's just his thing, sorry]
no subject
I was saying that you're fine, this entire situation is my fault anyway.
[ he'd hoped this would have gone faster so he could have looked through the houses and ducked out without having disturbed anyone-- or better yet have actually found his thing and stake his claim on the house, but alas. ]
What do you mean by 'supposed to be here,' anyway? I don't think anyone who woke up here expected it.

Rieze Maxia? [Repeating it sounds like a good idea]
Re: shrine
[ of course that's ignoring the fact that they might be nowhere recognizable at all, but you know, one step at a time. ]
no subject
You could find shrines like this in other places. We had similar ones at home, but I've never heard of a country like that.
no subject
Of course we'd land in a world where even the country and continent names aren't the same.
What are you familiar with, then?

a house!
It doesn't seem like it would take that much work, huh? Maybe we should label our own houses after this to make things easier for each other... They all look the same, after all.
no subject
It's bizarre. Whoever or whatever did this seems like they might have expected us, considering that there's exactly enough lodgings for us all, and yet...
[ too much effort to provide comfort to the lot of them, but too little when it comes to the simple things like putting nameplates on the doors? what the hell kind of kidnapping or ridiculous magical scheme is this. ]

[ course that might not be the case for everyone here but you know. ]
Still, the fact that this all doesn't make much sense doesn't change, does it.

She's currently flipping through the massive anthology, trying to decipher whatever secrets may be hidden between it's pages when she finds she has company. ]
This space is spoken for.
[ She says, simply. ]
oh boy here we go
[ Because as he's saying this, he's plucking up the delicate-seeming silver pocketwatch from where it rests in the middle of the sitting area, giving it a brief flourish on its chain, then tucking it away somewhere safe in his clothing.
After that he pauses a little, purses his lips. Then, in a slightly more conciliatory tone, because he's already had the 'I'm fine not taking the bed' conversation with someone else: ]
If it's sleeping arrangements you're concerned about, don't be. I'll be perfectly fine making do with the sofa.

I don't see why we have to share a room at all. There's plenty of space to spread ourselves out.
[ Sorry Julius, your roommate is a hostile teenage girl and she's trying to evict you. ]
.. There's no rule that we have to stay wherever we find our things, is there?
no subject
[ Why take a dip in the river when the houses have bathrooms and showers, for example. ]
... I'm not camping out when there's perfectly usable housing available. And, with all due respect, I'd be just as much as if not more of an intruder in anyone else's cabin than I already am here.

house!
[DRYLY. Watching him with narrowed eyes, blatantly wary. She'll get in his way if it looks like he's going to keep searching, but either way—]
Are you finished?
no subject
[ he picks up on that wariness loud and clear, but it mostly rolls off of him. he gets worse on a regular basis, honestly. ]
It might be somewhat of a surprise, but I don't exactly make a habit of intruding into people's homes.
[ even if temporary, and all the doors are unlocked though, so like. ]
no subject
[Look. Listen. A cursory nod while barging into someone else's space doesn't cut it? Even if she'd rather chop off her arm before considering this ~her home~.]
You know, you could have avoided wasting my time and yours if you had just asked instead of poking around.
no subject
All due respect, we both have plenty of time to spare at the moment. [ Unfortunately. ] The majority of these buildings are still uninhabited since a fair portion of us seem to have opted to try to deal with the gates or otherwise explore. Admittedly, I could have resumed knocking despite having abandoned it after the ninth uninhabited house. So. I'll apologize for that much, at least.
