The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.



Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

Ah, definitely a mix of both. Though most of the travel was... I guess you could say work related.

So you actually like your coworkers? Lucky guy. I mean, unless your boss was just cool with you bringing your friends on every business trip, in which case... Still lucky.

[leaberator]

I couldn't stand most of them. I'm pretty sure the feeling was mutual. [ ha ha. ] Eh, but it's fine. I quit a while back. Sounds like your job's a pain, though.

[foodbin]

Is that a long story, too, or is it less complicated than the part where several people want to kill you?

[She shrugs.]

Serving coffee to assholes who are always telling you to smile more isn't anybody's dream, but it was a living. I actually quit not too long before coming here too, though.

[leaberator]

It's the same long story, actually. So... more or less the same amount of complicated.

[ yikes. ]

Hey, good for you! Though I guess with your world going all over the place, there was no need to keep the job.

[foodbin]

[It's quick, but if he's perceptive, he might notice the way her expression tightens for a moment before she continues.]

Thanks. I feel like you should get a bigger congratulations if you left a job that may or may not have made people want to kill you, though. What was it, anyways? Unless that's also part of the same story.

[ he seems almost embarrassed for a second ]

Ah... naw. I took too long to quit that to get any credit for it. [ and he at least has the decency to look apologetic at his latest answer: ] Yep. It's a long, long, stupid story.

[foodbin]

Maybe we'll swap them sometime.

[Unless they get out of here quickly, but she has to worry how likely that is. It seems like it wasn't simple to bring them here, whatever the reason might be.]

[leaberator]

Ha, sure. If things start to drag on too long, we can share stories and see who had the worst boss.

But no offense, I'd kinda like to get some answers out of this place before it comes to that.

[foodbin]

Yeah, none taken. I'm hoping our mysterious captors will show up to tell us what exactly it is they want before too long.

[leaberator]

Bad guy doing an evil plot on a grand scale... There'll be a dramatic monologue before long, I just know it.

[ it's only mostly a joke ]

[She gives a noise of amusement, not quite a laugh.]

Maybe it'll be the Saturday morning cartoon kind of villain speech where we could just leave at any time while they're going on and on about their master plan.

[leaberator]

[ TOO CLOSE TO HOME BUT LET'S NOT GO THERE ]

Heh. Maybe we can all just go wait out by the gate until they're done with their speech.

[foodbin]

Time to take bets on how long they'll go on before they notice we're all AWOL.

[leaberator]

Hours. Easily.

[foodbin]

I've gotta wonder how informed that opinion is, but... Let me guess. Long story.

[leaberator]

Hey-- you're catching on.

[ he doesn't even try to deny it? ]

Sorry.

[foodbin]

[She waves a hand to dismiss the apology.]

I think I'll deal without uncovering your mysterious backstory.

[leaberator]

You're probably better off.

[ mostly because no one has ever uncovered his backstory, ever, ]

[foodbin]

[She gives him a curious look

before she remembers she's not getting an answer.]

You might want to think twice about having a 'you can't handle the truth' moment right after complaining about villain monologues.

[leaberator]

[ okay, he laughs at that ]

Nah... Not that kind of better off. It's just not that interesting.

[foodbin]

[The look she gives him makes it clear enough she doesn't buy that, but she doesn't seem too bothered.]

Right.

[leaberator]

[ shamelessly; ]

Yep. [ anyway subject change-- ] Hey, unrelated to our potential evil overlords... You see anyone you know around here?

[foodbin]

[She shakes her head.]

Can't say I do. Why, do you?

[leaberator]

Yeah. A few, actually. Kinda weird.

[ well, not that weird considering kh circumstances, but weird considering who exactly showed up ]

I'm trying to figure out if we're special cases or if other people got brought in together.
