INTRO LOG

Week Zero
32 in Competition

The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.

A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.

Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.

Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.

It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.

Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.

Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

dangerous games

[ The nailbat Minato owns is way too heavy and cumbersome to drag around, so he's in the armory looking for something light enough to be carried in one hand, a thin sword or maybe a shield. He's never fought with a shield before, but thinks it could be useful, especially if it rains and he's without an umbrella.

So he's lucky he has that on hand when Mary starts swinging that sword around, blinking at her in surprise for a moment before adopting his best villainous voice. It sounds monotonous and unconvincing, but he's trying. ]

Are you so confident you can take me on? You shall never get past me and escape, Princess Knight.

[At first, Minato's surprised expression makes Mary nervous. She balks, feeling she should apologize, but before it's out of her mouth he's playing along, and her smile comes back tenfold. She wasn't even really trying to force anyone to inclusion...simply not paying attention to her surroundings.

But everything is always more fun with company, and if she notices his lack of acting skills she definitely isn't making any comment on them.]

I know I can defeat you, because I'm pure of heart! When I escape, I'll be reunited with my family, and the land will be filled with joy!

[She rears back clumsily, nearly toppling over as she tries to swing the sword. It's an awkward effort as it comes crashing back toward Minato once again.]

[ Minato's used to playing along, even if his acting could take some practice, lifting his shield up again and bracing his feet, shield angled so that the sword slides against the surface instead of hitting it directly and subjecting Mary to the recoil, to fall safely to the ground away from the both of them. ]

Ahhhh. [ A monotonous scream. Minato lets the shield clatter to the ground, and stumbles backward. ]

A one-hit KO... I was a fool, I was no match for the Princess Knight.

[Mary watches with triumph as her opponent is slain! But as she loses grip of the sword, her forehead starts to knit with concern. Bridging the gap between them she reaches for Minato's hand.]

I didn't really hurt you, did I? It's just pretend, right?

[ If Minato looks beat up, it's because he's had a Day, crashing into various things around the place and very nearly dying before the murders start. But maybe he's just always looked like this, a soft smile on his face as he takes Mary's hand to let her help himself straighten up, even if he could do it himself. ]

I'm alright. It's just pretend, and like you said, the Princess Knight is pure of heart. The evil guard has been cleansed and healed of his wounds, too.

Good!

[She squeezes Minato's hand with determined ferocity, as if she really can make everything bad disappear from his whole life just by thinking hard enough.]

The Princess Knight is named Mary. And what of her guard?

[ Minato squeezes her hand back slightly, before letting go and sliding them back into his pants pockets. ]

Her guard's name is Minato. But you can dub him something new, if you'd like. He doesn't care.
