INTRO LOG
Week Zero
32 in Competition
32 in Competition
The transition from unconsciousness to the waking world is practically seamless. Though you're certain this wasn't where you meant to end up, for a few brief moments it's hard to grasp the situation and take in your surroundings.
A soft twilight lights your way, casting a glow over the sprawling village that fans out around you. Just outside of the large meeting hall you'll find yourself awakening among several others who have found themselves in this place. There's a sense of peace that looms over the area, the only sounds being the cheerful chirp of a stray bird or two and the babbling brook that runs through the village itself.
Stand up, dust yourself off and set out. There are plenty of places to explore and should you venture far enough you'll even find several little houses throughout the village. It may take some time, but as you check out each house you'll soon come across something that belongs to you...along with something that doesn't. It seems that this new residence is yours to share. As for the village itself, the other buildings appear open and well-stocked, providing you with a variety of amenities to utilize. The paths leading out of the village, however, are guarded by four ornate wooden gates. No matter how hard you try, they will not let you past. It seems that the time isn't right yet.
Speaking of, the only way to truly track the passage of time is by charting the movements of the sun but that can prove to be quite difficult as well. As the sun dips below the horizon and the night sky fills with stars, the bell at the shrine rings out to signal the end of your first day. No one else has arrived. It's only you and these strangers for now.
It seems as though you'll have plenty of time to get acquainted with your fellow companions. Make yourself comfortable; when the time is right, answers will appear.

Welcome to the soft intro of Subdivided! This is your intro mingle and the current conditions will last through the weekend until Monday, June 3rd at which point the weekly log will go up. Your characters will not know anything about the partner system, how powers work or any plot-relevant information until Monday. However, characters are free to discover their power through trial and error and will have access to their item from home immediately.
Please note that an additional top-level to introduce NPCs and Game Mechanics will go up on Sunday, 4 PM EST.

[Perhaps you came to the garden to admire its serene beauty. Well, it’s still beautiful, but the serenity is a bit precarious at the moment. The gentle burbling of the koi pond has turned into a kind of frantic splashing, and it doesn’t take a close investigation to figure out why, especially when the perpetrator is hardly being subtle. Mary is squealing in unabashed delight, her big skirt bubbled out around her as she scares the life out of the poor koi.]
Fishy fishy fish, come here! Come play!
MISS MARY CAN MOO, CAN YOU?
[Fortunately, it seems Mary has been chased from the koi pond. Her thirst for attention from animals, however, is not to be underestimated, because now she’s harassing a cow. Well, she’s just kind of faceplanted into its side, giggling as she admires the sturdy animal. It doesn’t really seem to mind. What a friendly matron! Easy enough to walk on by and leave the girl to her own devices if you’re the worrying sort…
But then she tries to climb on top of it for the express purpose of reaching the apples up in one of the trees, far too small to do it on her won…but far too stubborn to ask for help.]
Miss Spots, you’re much too tall! How am I to climb you?
[She keeps sliding down about halfway up her attempts.]
DANGEROUS GAMES
[Okay this one is probably the most worrying, because Mary Absolutely has a Real Sword that is Way Too Big for her and she is Very Probably going to hurt herself as she swings it around in careless abandon inside of the armory.]
I am the Princess Knight! I’ll save myself from the castle! En garde, foul curr!
[Maybe she read that in a book somewhere.]
ONE DRESS, TWO DRESS, RED DRESS, BLUE DRESS
Ooohhh…
[This is absolutely overwhelming. Mary’s mouth is agape as she looks around at all the different clothes inside of the boutique, with no idea where to start. All she knows is that she’s tired of this green dress! And she’s gotten it all dirty from her frolicking, anyhow.]
What color do I pick? I like…I liiiiike…pretty pretty red! Red like a red red rose!
A CASTLE, GUARDED
[Finally, when her energy has run out, Mary has found herself a place in the library…a place to doze! Not intentionally, mind you. In fact, she seems to have amassed for herself a great number of books over a wide variety of topics. There are fantasy stories and nonfiction mixed together, books about families and books about epic adventures and books about famous artists! It seems that she has, quite literally, built herself a castle out of books. It’s a child-sized castle…and she appears to have given up about halfway before she fell asleep between two pillars, arms wrapped around one book as if it were a pillow or stuffed toy.]
WILDCARD
((ooc: idk just let me know! LET'S ROCK))
the cow
well. shess is going to approach, and without a word, he'll lift mary up to place her on the cow.]
no subject
Hooray! Now I have a noble steed!
[And she can even reach an apple! Yes!!]
Thank you!
no subject
though he'll watch for a few moments to make sure she doesn't fall off.]

Your kind reward! It was hard earned, so cherish it greatly, okay?

child with a sword
It's really not a good idea to swing it around like that. You could hurt yourself.
[ or someone, but mostly herself. ]
no subject
[She says as she starts to tumble backwards. His brisk pace just makes her want to swing that sword harder, wow.]
I'm a responsible lady!
no subject
but he plasters on a smile and slows his pace a little, raising his hands as he approaches. see, no harm! ]
I never meant to imply you weren't, ma'am. Be that as it may, however, I fear this blade would be a pale imitation of the one you might have misplaced. The balance feels off, doesn't it?
[ very solemnly, with the gravity involved in bullshitting to a precocious 7yo who wants to be just like his big brother the agent, ]
It may be cursed.
no subject
[Mary stops swinging it, for one thing, so that's good. She looks at her sword mournfully, and that sad expression turns into fright when Julius gives his second thought on the matter. A curse? With a shriek, she absolutely yeets it away from her.]
I don't want to be cursed!
no subject
anyway he crouches down in front of her and tries to project reassuring. ness. jury's out on whether or not he succeeds but!!! he continues, with the same amount of gravitas]
It's a good thing you got rid of it when you did. If it was actually cursed, then it probably won't last long. Though I'm willing to bet the castle has other tricks up its sleeves too, Princess...
[ he glances around, then stage whispers, as if relating a grave secret: ] It might be that none of the weapons here are safe.

Then what do we do? Do we have to defeat an evil wizard?

Please come back, pretty pretty fishies!

[She has clearly not comprehended the fact that stomping around in their pond and attempting to take them out of the water would constitute as "hurting".]

[Clearly, she didn't think about it that way. She stops moving around, and looks down at the hiding koi. They seem to begin to venture back out as long as she stays still.]
Why couldn't they breathe? Are we meant to stay in two different worlds? I don't like that...

dangerous games
So he's lucky he has that on hand when Mary starts swinging that sword around, blinking at her in surprise for a moment before adopting his best villainous voice. It sounds monotonous and unconvincing, but he's trying. ]
Are you so confident you can take me on? You shall never get past me and escape, Princess Knight.
Re: dangerous games
But everything is always more fun with company, and if she notices his lack of acting skills she definitely isn't making any comment on them.]
I know I can defeat you, because I'm pure of heart! When I escape, I'll be reunited with my family, and the land will be filled with joy!
[She rears back clumsily, nearly toppling over as she tries to swing the sword. It's an awkward effort as it comes crashing back toward Minato once again.]
no subject
Ahhhh. [ A monotonous scream. Minato lets the shield clatter to the ground, and stumbles backward. ]
A one-hit KO... I was a fool, I was no match for the Princess Knight.
no subject
I didn't really hurt you, did I? It's just pretend, right?
no subject
I'm alright. It's just pretend, and like you said, the Princess Knight is pure of heart. The evil guard has been cleansed and healed of his wounds, too.
no subject
[She squeezes Minato's hand with determined ferocity, as if she really can make everything bad disappear from his whole life just by thinking hard enough.]
The Princess Knight is named Mary. And what of her guard?
