Week Seven
13 in Competition

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find a large, swirling mass grey in color looming near the sakura tree. This swirl cannot be approached just yet, but seems to be locked and waiting for something more.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. Though they’re together, it’s Sol who speaks up first this time.

"Morning. As usual, you guys were a big help in purging the darkness that lingered in the gateway from last week. We'll take it from here." There's a pause. "...we've got a new one for you, but there's something really weird about it. It's even larger than the last, so be careful when you're out there."

When Sol finishes, Lune picks up where they left off.

"Would it be odd to say that I believe you are all doing well? Your growth has been admirable.... Have heart as you continue to move forward."

The moment participants leave the hall, they will find that the gateway has changed from grey to white, the opening widening enough for multiple people to step through. The Signs will soon take their leave, and all will remain peaceful once more.

In addition, as the week goes on, everyone will find that somewhere on their person, a small word is printed displaying their most prominent trait. Though they may not agree, or even realize it, this is a trait that most strongly defines them and over the week this trait will slowly become amplified.

We're doing a search and rescue for eggs and babies. Will you assist?

Search and rescue, hm. Something almost more familiar than the errands we'd had to run in a few of the other gateways. [ his gaze is sharp, but something about it seems faintly less... dissatisfied, than it might otherwise have been. ] We've been keeping up with goings-on on your side of things to an extent, but still.

Overview of the terrain, then?

Oh? Something you've had experience with?

[He's talking about the search and rescue.]

I didn't know you could view us at all.

There's a beach along with some islands. The water area of this gateway.

A forest that's full of trees that people can get stuck in, and a small manor, likely earth.

A city that seems to be an amalgamation of several other cities and crumbling streets, fire.

At the top of the mountain is a deserted wasteland with caverns. Leaving that as the air area.

Agents run a fair variety of missions. [ fetch quests... ] Ones of this type weren't often assigned to me as a general rule, but we all get training enough in it and other matters of emergency response, just in case.

[ it's as candid as his tone ever gets, even as flat and level as it continues to be. ]

As for the other matter— [ he shrugs again, dismissively. ] You contact us frequently enough that we get a general idea. And in my case, it isn't as if it's been that long since I passed— though the mess made of the entire thing was entirely unnecessary.

[ what kind of inefficiency and being terrible at murder, honestly. ]

[ in wordless response to the question he sighs harshly, unfolds his arms, and in a flash, summons a jagged arc of wild lightning into the hand he holds up, curving back following the line of his arm.

since it's not a secret anymore given gestures at the living's announcements yesterday, there are so many timelines where north going after him could have ended incredibly horribly, can you imagine. but about his body, hm, yeah, sounds bad. ]

If they'd bothered to talk to me at any point, it could have been so much cleaner.

[ him specifically, and not. darkness-him. poor sol, cleaning up the mess he imagines he became. ]

Would have been less trouble for everyone involved. Speaking of— what happened to the watches?

[That'll definitely make fighting any potential enemies much easier.]

The silver one was crushed. Milla's holding both of them.

Are you ready to begin? The caves may be a good starting location.

[ nevermind, doesn't matter. ]

Same effects as the training grounds in the village, right? Explains why it's so easy to do this, [ he says, letting the bolt dissipate into the atmosphere around them. ]

Anything else I need to know about the place before before we head out?

[ you know, anything like spooky illusions that aren't visible to third parties. ]

[He watches the lightning arc for a moment and quiets for a moment as he considers this.]

Yes, it certainly seems that way. You'll have an easier time here.

... There are some illusions in the cave. I'm not sure if you'll be able to see them, but I see my comrades there.

... Hm. Wonder what it'd be I'd see, then.

[ file that under the list of things to not think about while he's here for the sake of not accidentally causing another lightning storm. ]

If it's all the same in the end, I think I'd rather a different ability for this, but there's hardly a point in complaining about it.

[ sword... easier... but then again, one handed lightning casting probably is more feasible than swordfighting holding a prinny. ]

If you have a pocket, you may be able to put the prinny there instead of holding onto it?

[It's not a very large prinny plush, after all.]

Hm. It might be an interesting handicap. I was effectively down one leg for weeks. I might as well see what I can do with only one arm instead.

[ but also, he just doesn't have a sword, so it'll just be electric and hand to hand anyway. ]

[And then they made it to the cave because it's not that far away.

Val makes a ring of fire to hover next to them and light the way.]

[ julius is... a lot lighter on his feet than he's been in past weeks, what do you know. keeping pace isn't hard at all-- especially considering that he's, uh, taller than Val.

also eying the flickering shadows of the cave warily. normally he'd just cast a single ball lightning in to illuminate as it travels, but given what they're doing... ]

... This is partially a hostage rescue too, isn't it? Walking into this might as well be asking to be ambushed.

[ but it's not like they have a choice, so. ]

[Val is a very short vampire, don't worry about it.]

It is. Even if we are ambushed, between the two of us we'll have enough ability to stop them.

[Walking in! At least the illusions don't start immediately.]

[ thanks for the vote of confidence, but if they get the babies killed because they spook the captors then what happens,

but since val is heading in it isn't as if he has much choice but to follow, though with at least a little bit more care for their surroundings. ]

[They at least walk in without an immediate ambush from whatever digimon are around here.]

Which one did you have?

[Illusion wise, Julius sees nothing and hears nothing that Val sees, but he goes entirely still.

In the distance there's some chatter, but Val is... preoccupied.]

One with incredibly limited use outside of destruction, apparently. If it weren't limited to once a week, maybe it might have been worth more in application-- but as it is.

[ it's a cosmic joke, that everything he does is only good for breaking things. ]

[ the glitch steals his words, awareness, and general sense of being away for the next few moments and honestly, he looks more annoyed than discomfited by it by the time he reintegrates, because seriously??? everyone already knows???

but it does mean that by the time he's aware of his surroundings again, Val's already seeming lost in space, so julius hisses lowly under his breath and makes as if to pull him out of sight only to glitch again and pass right through him.

because the dead can't touch the living, ha ha. ]

[It takes him a while to snap out of whatever illusion is being cast. But he knows none of those people are here, and there's no way they'd show up this late in the game. Hearing them say those words... he knows some of it is true, but they've all stayed with him.

That's the important part.

He clenches his fists and his jaw and keeps marching forward.]

It... it doesn't matter. It's fine.

[There's some mean spirited laughter down one of the tunnels, he goes down that route.]

Let's keep going.

Whatever you saw wasn't real.

[ is that reassurance? it's said like he's had too much experience with this sort of thing, reality and not so. maybe the dead don't register enough in the cavern to trigger illusions for them, or maybe the wall he put between himself and his emotions before crossing to this side works well enough for this particular purpose too, but he seems relatively unaffected by their location for the time being.

he'll follow Val toward the laughter. ]

... Yes, of course. Many of the images here are nothing more than illusions.

[Yet, he sounds a bit sad about it? It's been more than a month since he's seen any of them. Time is odd for demons, but he still misses them.

The laughter only gets louder, Val shrinks the flame as they approach the Vilemon. Looking in, there are three eggs behind two of the oddly shaped creatures.]

Don't bother feeling for fakes. Save your sentiments for the people they actually belong to.

[ even so, he's sounding a little distant himself. it's a good thing that they come across the vilemon sooner rather than later, because he takes stock of the situation and comes to a decision. ]

... distract them. I'll grab the eggs.

[He's more than willing to sink into the moment.

As soon as the decision is made, Val steps out, fire backing him as he surveys the creatures.

Then he points his flaming sword at them.]

If you're going to be in caves like bats, you could at least look the part! What kind of feeling are you trying to evoke?

[The vilemon look confused.]
