Week Eight
9 in Competition

As the sun rises on Monday morning, all participants will find themselves awakening with a sense of purpose. Regardless of where they slept the night before, they’ll find themselves compelled to return to the main meeting hall first thing in the morning.

Approaching the hall, however, they will find three large, swirling masses grey in color looming near the sakura tree. These swirls cannot be approached just yet, but seem to be locked and waiting for something more. Later in the day, if those in the village approach the third mass they will find themselves in a version of their home world. This world is completely void of people, but seems to be just as they last remember it. No darkness will be found in this world as well.

As the last member of the village enters the hall, they will find Lune and Sol at the head of the room. They don't speak immediately, but wait for all to settle.

[ he's not stronger than mikazuki and he knows it, but he can't just stand by and do nothing here, either. jiji should know that. ]

We can, at the very least, allow you this much without our interference.

What's there to confer? If you have to break, I'm not letting someone else do it.

[ he crosses his arms, scowling. ]

...You said you would get Tsuru and I home, if I break, too. Who's going to do that now, if we all do?

[unsaid]

You know just as well as I do that when the end draws near, it means only that another beginning is on the horizon.

If the last remaining is not meant to be Tsurumaru, yourself, or myself -

It means only that another will need to bring us all home. I do not believe we will be forsaken.

[ sigh ]

Is it just the two of you, then? Or will there be more this week?

[unsaid]

Sometimes there are others that even we cannot foresee - so we cannot yet be certain that it will end with the two of us.

...Because it won't end until there's only one of us.

But we won't have any leads on the corrupted, once you're gone. How are we supposed to find them then?

[unsaid]

... how, indeed...

[ . . . ]

I wonder - where do you believe that we stand in our war against the enemy, Ookurikara? If you were commander, what choice would you make here?

[ jiji out here asking the tough questions ]

Without the saniwa to purify you, it would be better to break you myself than allow you to sabotage the mission. I think you know that.

[unsaid]

[and he'll allow himself to fall easily into a role - ]

And when will the mission end, Captain? How far have we come?

[ kara doesn't like this. any of it, but especially being made captain for this, of all things. he felt qualified to handle it for the mission for munemura, but this...? ]

If there's really no way of bringing us home unbroken, then we have to see it through. It will end when the corruption has been defeated, or there are none of us left.

[ this isn't how it was supposed to go - he wasn't supposed to be making choices like this ]

[this is far more openly obedient than mikazuki would ever opt to be if he were ever in someone else's sortie but]

And how will you see it through? What is our next plan of attack?

[ kara's grip on his sleeves tightens, and somehow he can't bring himself to look at jiji again. ]

We eliminate the corruption. We'll have to break you, and Roxas - just like we did with all the others.

[unsaid]

[there is a flash of a second where lune's gaze sharpens at the mention of roxas -

and then he slips easily back into the hypothetical]

And what shall you do after that?

We'll have to continue fighting the corruption, won't we? Until it, and all but one of us, are gone, and the last one standing can fix the universe.

[ he turns back then, clearly dissatisfied but seeing no other solution ]

Which probably means I'll have to break, too, and give the title of captain to someone else.

[unsaid]

And how do you suppose that ought to be done? If you lack your guides who are able to guide and conduct trials, while acting as conduits to the universe?

[a gentle smile, like he's trying to lead kara to something]

Perhaps we ought to talk after you have had time to consider it.

[unfriendliest]

Is there another way to find the corruption without you, then? Or do we just have to wait for it to fully manifest in one of us?

[unsaid]

Hm... No, I cannot think of a way.

We were appointed as your guides, after all - I only possess suspicions of my own on how to proceed.

[unfriendliest]

You said you don't have the same restrictions now. So, how would you go forward from here, if our positions were switched?

[unsaid]

Shall we have a cup of tea, Ookurikara? And perhaps some sweets.

If I am to play at being a Captain once more - I would rather like some.
