Week Zero

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

Where the Barriers Used to Be

[ Akane is pretty cheerfully examining that they can pass through them now, but let's assume you're walking up nearby. She turns your way and claps. ]

So there really is more outside this village. I was starting to think nothing else existed past it. [ She laughs, because that would have been kind of funny, in a way. ]

Water... You Doing There... Haha Get It

[ At some point, Akane has headed to the water-zone, and she sits at the beach enjoying the breeze. It can be chilly this close to the water though, so she has her hoodie up, but she's removed her tights and lets her toes get wet in one of the less stagnant little tide-pools.

She's back to tapping at her phone, apparently having decided that some of her precious battery is worth killing to... Play some kind of match-three type game. Listen, she's stressed. In fact, her taps to her phone seem particularly rough.

... Jabbing at a phone with a cracked screencan be dangerous though, and one particular swipe has her flinching. ]

Ouch!

Shrine Time

[ Akane has her arms crossed as she wanders the shrine, frowning. ]

Hey, what gods are we even supposed to pray to, here? Our own? Or ones from here? Or those two - Sol and Lune? They said they weren't even the ones really in charge, didn't they?

[ I'm down for p much anything and you probably don't even need to ask, but I'm Clione # 7898 on disc or clionidae if you want to! Otherwise Akane mostly hangs out in her own house (sorry), at the shrine, or sometimes the library or boutique. She wanders.]

Really!? That's great!

[That saves time, so Toki just picks up the nearest pair of shoes.]

Yeah, but it was like in a barn and not a garden shed and I don't know where it was in relation to the gate or even how to get back to the gate, really, so I just didn't come back and it doesn't matter anyway since the gates are open, right?

[He now browses racks of clothes; something with pockets would be good.]

If there are sharks, there must be something they're feeding on.

[There have to be fish in there.]

It's not so difficult to learn. I haven't seen any fishing poles but perhaps we can fashion a net.

[Val actually seems to perk up at this information. Lava? Maybe some comfortable rocks suspended above it?]

[ No, it's 100% on him, just prompted from somebody else. That somebody else was wrong, though, and Minato just sort of glances away and tries to steer the conversation elsewhere. ]

Are you any good at climbing trees?

Some of it was outside, but there was a volcano too and there's probably lava in there! I mean, like logically there would be lava in there, but I didn't check and there might not be because this is place is weird! And there's lizards!

[Toki points to the one sitting on his shoulder and looking bored somehow.]

Look, isn't he cute~!? We can like make him a little place to sleep in the prinny's pouch or something! What should we name him!?

[ He points up at the apple tree, where a couple of knives are stuck in the trunk, or balanced precariously on the branches and liable to fall at any time. ]

I sorta... misplaced those. Was wondering if you could help me get them down?

[ Hello... Minato steps inside quietly, not wanting to disturb Kaoru while he's hard at work on whatever it is he's doing, but when Kaoru speaks up, Minato takes that as an opportunity to do so too. ]

[I guess Val is a lizard dad now.]

I see. My home is over lava, so I'll be visiting.

[But this little lizard has him gazing at it in interest.]

It's going to need warm temperatures to survive. I'm not sure the prinny's pouch will have enough ventilation for it. Where did you find him? Near the lava?

[He'll go along with anything. Exploring time... is now!]

[shess is maybe judging a little, but you know what, all right.

after placing his tablet back in his pocket, he starts climbing up the tree to retrieve minato's knives.]

Not really close to it, but in the desert! He wasn't like living in the lava or anything!

[He tries to picture Valvatorez's home. From the short description, he imagines the house here suspended on poles sticking out of an endless sea of lava.]

If you live above lava, how does your house like not catch on fire!?

[ Like swimmers. Minato does not say this. ]

A net might be easy enough to make... The place with all the clothes, there should be fabric and stuff there. And I know how to sew.

[ ... she giggles at 'lass,' but, well, 400 year old vampire. it's a little charming, actually? then, hmmm, she blindly points... that way? towards the earth zone. ]

[Does he always talk this much? Kaoru settles for a blink of surprise as he processes all of that before there's a languid sort of shrug.]

It doesn't matter. [They can agree on that at least.] Have you gone beyond the gates at all? The paths spread out pretty far.

[ Thanks, bro. Minato waits below the tree, just sort of wandering around the base of it so he can spot Shess at all times, though there's nothing he can do for Shess as a spotter. ]

If it's easier, you can throw them down here when you get to them. I'll catch them.

[That seems like a good lizard name to him.]

The place I live is made of stone. It can't catch on fire.

[He lives over a a magically suspended slab of rock over lava. It stays up somehow. One way or another.]
