Week Zero

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

Yes. [He sounds affronted, actually.] Clothing is supposed to come in different sizes and cuts, so seeing that it fits everything means there's something wrong with it.

Is it wrong, or is it simply magic?

[ Minato is still wearing his school uniform and it'll be week 6 and he'll still be wearing it, but the idea of all clothes fitting perfectly is so convenient, he doesn't want to question it. ]

"One size fits all," huh? Most clothes try to market themselves like that.

[ The baggy shapeless ones. ]

Can't it be both? Magic isn't exactly real outside of this place. [Because saying it isn't real negates literally everything that's happening here and he can accept that.]

[2542 and he's not even the oldest person here.]

Alright.

[To the Earth zone they go! It's getting darker pretty quickly but also Val doesn't seem to particularly notice or mind.]

[He will bodily tackle Minato and wrestle him into clothing, Card, don't test me. Either way Kaoru recognizes it's a school uniform and he wonders about that but ultimately he doesn't press yet.]

Most clothes that market themselves that way are cheap quality meant for mass production. [So. Not Okay.]

Of course magic is real.

[This is nothing compared to what may come.]

I followed one and it went to some desert place with lava and sand and sharp rocks and it was hot, which is why I came back to find shoes! Not that I'm going to back to the lava place, but before I go find out what's down the other paths, I want to be more prepared like with pockets in case I find things of interest that I should bring back! Do you want to go explore one!?

[Everything fits, so he's just going to disrobe and change clothes right here. Pockets.]

[ Fashion? Who cares about fashion. ]

Sandy! That's a good one!

[The image in his mind now changes to a house of stone suspended by cables to the ceiling of a cave.]

Oh! That makes sense! Well! I'm going to find shoes! If you go explore the lava place, bring back some rocks for Sandy and maybe a cup of lava just in case, if you have some cups!

[He waves and continues down the path.]

I'll see you at home~!

[Which Val can do absolutely none of, but he has a kid who does it all.]

[He'll call out to Toki before he leaves completely.]

Any cup would melt or explode from the heat of the lava.

Do you know what that lizard eats?

[Desert, huh? A lot of that makes sense and an outfit with pockets also makes sense? Kaoru himself has switched to a sleeveless hoodie made of a light material so he can't even disagree.]

Not the lava one. [That sounds bad all around, but there's a moment's hesitation before he nods.] We can try heading south. It shouldn't be that far.

[stillstands]

I. Water

[ As soon as she'd realised there was a beach nearby, Miki had taken that southern path and kept on walking until she reached it. It'd been so long since she'd been to the beach, and while the quietness of the walk and urge to keep checking over her shoulder had been a little unnerving, the beauty of the water is worth it once she reaches it.

She's happy to just sit and watch the waves lapping at the shore for a bit, but stumble across her any later and she's up and about. There's a stick in one hand and she's walking around a patch of sand, making marks and lines and muttering to herself as she goes. ]

It looks weird if I do that. What about if I shrunk down the east wing and expanded the entrance way...?

II. Boutique

[ Enter the boutique and you'll come across Miki rifling very intently through the clothing racks - she doesn't make any sort of sign she's heard anyone else come in either.

While her uniform is definitely clean, it might be apparently after a few glances that it's oddly worn in some places. A rip in the sleeve that seems a little hastily stitched up, or wear around the hem of her skirt. And it looks like she's trying to take the chance to replace it, with a fair bit of enthusiasm. There's a pretty big pile of clothes folded on a counter nearby, with one outfit set aside for the moment.

...

... And it doesn't seem like she has any plans to stop soon. ]

III. Lanterns

[ Once the lanterns start floating down the river, Miki finds herself stopping more often than not whenever she walks past. Eventually, she stops altogether, and sits down at the edge of the river just to watch them.

It's kinda peaceful actually. Relaxing. ]

I wonder where they're going.

[This is why commoners will be the death of him.]

Something of a higher quality will last much longer than something thrown together with the pitiful baseline of "it won't fall apart." [...but he looks back at his sketchpad.] If this place is magic, then it's possible anything we make ourselves will change, too.

[He wants to test that.]

I don't know anything about earth magic.

Haha, right! Unless~ it's like made of stone like your house! A stone cup!

[Which Valvatorez most definitely doesn't have.]

They eat bugs, I think! Maybe leaves!

[Those are very opposite things. The lizard won't last long.]

Do you even know what kind of lizard this is? Go research it in the library.

[ ... he's pointing at the sign out sheet, not the dagger. ]

It seems as though we have to fill this out to take a weapon from here.

[he nods from up in the tree, before he tosses an apple. he's, uh, careful to try and avoid minato's head.]

Deal. I'll put it near the top of my to-do list. Will you be hanging around here for a while, or where should I find you?

[ It's way too hot for Minato here; he'll be back, if Val absolutely wants to stay here. ]
