Week Zero

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

I. Water

[ As soon as she'd realised there was a beach nearby, Miki had taken that southern path and kept on walking until she reached it. It'd been so long since she'd been to the beach, and while the quietness of the walk and urge to keep checking over her shoulder had been a little unnerving, the beauty of the water is worth it once she reaches it.

She's happy to just sit and watch the waves lapping at the shore for a bit, but stumble across her any later and she's up and about. There's a stick in one hand and she's walking around a patch of sand, making marks and lines and muttering to herself as she goes. ]

It looks weird if I do that. What about if I shrunk down the east wing and expanded the entrance way...?

II. Boutique

[ Enter the boutique and you'll come across Miki rifling very intently through the clothing racks - she doesn't make any sort of sign she's heard anyone else come in either.

While her uniform is definitely clean, it might be apparently after a few glances that it's oddly worn in some places. A rip in the sleeve that seems a little hastily stitched up, or wear around the hem of her skirt. And it looks like she's trying to take the chance to replace it, with a fair bit of enthusiasm. There's a pretty big pile of clothes folded on a counter nearby, with one outfit set aside for the moment.

...

... And it doesn't seem like she has any plans to stop soon. ]

III. Lanterns

[ Once the lanterns start floating down the river, Miki finds herself stopping more often than not whenever she walks past. Eventually, she stops altogether, and sits down at the edge of the river just to watch them.

It's kinda peaceful actually. Relaxing. ]

I wonder where they're going.

[Nana's reasons for being in the boutique are a little more mundane -- it's boredom that brings her, having explored most of the other areas already.

Though her eyes do light up at the sight of clothes. It's not even that she's in desperate need, but the sight is normal and that is always welcome.

... Goodness, though. Miki is absolutely taking advantage of this opportunity, isn't she? Sneaking up behind the girl, she glances from her to the pile of clothes before announcing her presence with an amused chirp]

Hmmm! Shopping I see~

[stillstands]

[ Well. That gets her a surprisingly frightened squeak out of Miki, and a rustling sound as the top she was holding slumps to the floor. ]

— ah?? Oh.

[ Oh, it’s the banana bread girl. Miki takes a deep breath, and lets it out as she looks over at the — oh, wow that’s much bigger than she thought — pile of clothing she’d set to the side. ]

Guess I am. I hadn’t realised this place was here, and, well. I thought I’d see what they had that I might like.

...

Turns out they have a lot, actually.

[daibanana]

And they're all so cute, too! Miki-chan has such good taste.

[Sorry Miki, you've been upgraded to -chan. There is no escape now]

Have you tried any of them, yet?

[stillstands]

I've just been grabbing things that look nice... [ Oh. Upgrade. It's Fwendship. ]

But no, I haven't tried them on yet. I kinda wanted to get a good selection, but I think I got a bit distracted.

[ Clothes shopping is kinda fun when you haven't done it in a while. ]

[daibanana]

Do you mind if I join you, in that case? I only have my current outfit to wear.

[Which is still nice and clean, meticulously taken care of, but there's only so long before the odors start going. The struggle of having one outfit]

[stillstands]

[ Oh, mood. Miki's uniform looks... tired. For lack of a better word. ]

Please do. It's kinda fun, being indulgent like this. There's just so many types of clothing here... and it looks like they have fabrics as well?

[leaberator]

[ lea just. peers over her shoulder as she works. like an asshole. ]

Whatcha doin'?

[ why is he this way ]

[stillstands]

[ the fact she's absolutely spinning around and instinctively smacking at his ankles with that stick is entirely his fault and i hope he knows this ]

... !!

[ ??????????? ]

[leaberator]

[ could he, theoretically, move out of the way if he was paying attention? sure. does he? absolutely not, he doesn't expect the stick inquisition, and he absolutely deserves it.

unfortunately he wears boots so it doesn't hurt that much, but he would deserve it if it did :/ ]

Ow. [ a bit deadpan, like he didn't jump back after being hit ] Attacking people like that is rude, you know.

[stillstands]

[ it was deserved. she does look... unnerved, maybe a little shaken, like he just leaned over and slammed go on most of her fight or flight instincts at the same time.

once she sees who it is though, she looks a little more settled again. ]

So is sneaking up on people.

[ and then just angery. ]

[leaberator]

Hey, I wouldn't have been sneakin' up on ya if you weren't so concentrated on what you were doing.

[ that's ?? not??? an excuse??? he is unrepentant ]

Are you always this jumpy?

[stillstands]

That’s even more reason not to sneak up on someone, you know.

[ And then she’s frowning back at whatever it was she was drawing in the sand. And not answering any questions at this time, apparently.

Hm. ]

[foodbin]

You think you've got enough there?

[She sounds amused rather than critical as she walks in to see this, though one of her eyebrows is raising.]

You should have brought a wheelbarrow from the farm to take all that back to where you're staying.

[stillstands]

I--

[ Oh. Huh.

That is a lot, isn't it? ]

-- I was just kind of putting things to one side. I didn't realise there were so many things in there.

[foodbin]

You could probably spend a week trying all that on.

[It's said with a small laugh.]

[stillstands]

Do you think?

[ She lifts up a soft, intentionally oversized looking blue sweater and squints at it. ]

Maybe we should be having fashion shows in here. There's a much bigger supply than I thought there would be.

[foodbin]

Somehow, I doubt we're going to find any Goodwills here, or that would be my suggestion.

[stillstands]

Having more than one outfit is better... but it's easy enough to wash something in the river, so we probably shouldn't be greedy.

[ the amount of clothes piled up on the counter is absolutely mind-boggling to a jrpg character who only has one (1) outfit ever... ]

A-are you going to take all of those?

[stillstands]

[ Ah. ]

I... probably not? I was just putting things to one side to try them on...

[ Don't... don't shame her... ]

[blackcoats]

Oh, okay. [ she laughs sheepishly ] I guess I can't really blame you... they're all nice, after all.

[stillstands]

It’s been a long time since I did any real shopping. I guess I got a little carried away...

[ Stepping back from the rack now. ]

Did you come in here to look for clothes? If I took anything you like, go ahead and try it on. I’m... well. Probably not going to need all of this.

[blackcoats]

Sort of... but not for anything in particular. I've never gotten to choose my own clothes before, so all of this is still really new to me. I... don't really know what I'm doing.

[stillstands]

[ Oh Xion. It’s okay you have nothing to fear, Miki is—



totally unable to help I’m so sorry. ]

I usually wear whatever’s comfortable or what I think looks nice. Choosing can be a pain but it’s better to pick for yourself, I think.

[ Hm. ]

You could start looking for clothes in colours you like and go from there?
