On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

I doubt there are shops. I haven't seen anyone here besides the two in robes and those that arrived a few days ago.

What if we get to another village, and there's another thirty or so people there? That would be funny.

Perhaps another volcano? I found some in the desert.

It's hard to even believe there's a desert so close to such a lush place...

The lad I'm sharing a home with brought a lizard back. He doesn't even know what kind of lizard it is.

What kind of irresponsible pet owner doesn't even know what they've brought home?

... Aren't some lizards poisonous?

No lizards are poisonous. If they can inject venom from a bite they're venomous.

[specialdog]

[ ..... Akane is quiet for a long moment. Then: ]

... Aren't some lizards venomous?

[Now he answers.]

Yes, though the lad didn't look like he was bitten or particularly injured.

That doesn't mean it couldn't happen later, even to someone else. Remind me not to go near your house.

[But for now, this place seems to have a whole bunch of animals he wasn't expecting. Was that a bear?]

[ Cute little squirrels are one thing, but listen, a bear could 100% murder her in like two seconds. ]

What are you supposed to do if you meet a bear? Not make eye contact, I think?

[ Akane: Sure I'd love to see Val fight a bear. ]

... Can you fight at all?

[He puts a hand on the sword at his hip.]

Not at all.

[ but she gives him an encouraging sort-of wave. ]

But you've got this.

[Even though Val is very ready to just start fighting a bear, the bear looks at them, snorts and meanders off into the rest of the forest.]

[What a let down.]
