Week Zero

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

I. Fire

[On one hand, his in game stats say he's very weak to fire. On the other, he's an idiot and this is as close as he's ever going to get to getting near Hades. There's a volcano here and instead of actually doing anything he's sitting near the volcano entrance with a bunch of sardines and eating them whole and raw.

He's not really doing anything else. Not practicing, not going towards the lava. Just sitting here and enjoying a snack.

If somebody comes in-]

Would you like a sardine to keep your strength up?

[It's raw, don't do this to yourself.]

II. Air

[He's considerably more at ease now that the threat of potential burning isn't looming over him here. Never mind the fact that he's so high up that the wind is a danger itself.

Now it's a little easier to tell Val's cape seems to be patterned after wings, with the wind blowing it back. The cape also looks quite a bit shorter now.]

It's quite the view.

[Looking down at the village from here, he wonders if this is how it is for the angels in Celestia. Though they're much higher up, maybe they look down on humanity in some similar way.]

[good news, shess isn't slicing his hand this time. he is, however, apparently signing out a dagger—as someone else enters the armoury, he'll just look up and give them a light smile in acknowledgment. yo.]

river

[shess is just watching the lanterns on the river, though if someone approaches, he'll turn to them with a smile. writing down in his (text-to-speech) tablet:]

They're rather pretty, aren't they?

air

[though he has to hold onto his hood to keep it from blowing off, shess casually strolls towards the mountains. even with the constant wind, he looks... oddly at peace? there's a faraway hint in his gaze, at least.]

[ It's sweltering over here, and Minato isn't really enjoying this place at all, where the only liquid around is lava and that's like the opposite of what he's hoping for. Sardines... water... why is that the closest thing to it? ]

Sure. Thanks.

[ He holds his hand out for a sardine. ]

[He can offer you sardines in these trying times, but only whole and raw.]

Mind the bone.

[And then he hands one over.]

[ Minato nods and takes the fish, but instead of biting into it like some sort of heathen, he puts it in his pants pockets like some sort of heathen. ]

Did you catch it yourself? I was having some trouble back at the pond.

[You know what? Maybe that's where Minato keeps his inventory. Val is from Disgaea, there's no way he'll question this nonsense.]

I found these in the kitchen. The taste like they were freshly caught

The kitchen... Do you know if it was somebody here that caught them?

[ Or is it a magically restockable fridge... ]

Just wondering, in case the food there is all we get, and we won't be provided any more.

1; Elements - Fire

[The grass and lushness of the village seems to cut off sharply, and there's suddenly a desert ahead. Toki begins exploring for any clues or something to indicate what the deal is here. He follows some lizards over the sand. He doesn't get far because it's too hot and rocky and he's barefoot. Why are there volcanoes anyway? It's doesn't matter. A lizard crawls across his foot and picks it up. He will take it "home" and maybe he can figure out how to communicate with it somehow. He has no pockets, so he sets the lizard on his shoulder and walks away from the magical desert thing. Passing someone on his way back to the village, he has this advice to offer.]

There's nothing that way but lava! Don't bother!


2; Festival

[The music starts quietly, in the background, and Toki can ignore it for approximately 12 seconds. He has yet to make it back to the house with the lizard, so it's riding along as he wanders the village, trying to discern which direction the music is coming from. Sometimes it seems a little louder and he heads in that direction, only for it become muted and the sound suddenly be coming from the opposite direction. After 20 minutes of this, he grabs the hand (or paw or hoof or wing or whatever) of the nearest being and tries to drag them along with him.]

Help me with this!

I didn't see anyone put them inside of the kitchen.

We do have access to the ocean now. I can fish for more.

Oh... So you do know how to fish. Is it something easy enough to learn? I heard there were sharks in there.

[ Are those two things connected/does Minato want to eat a shark?? Who knows. But he does want to learn how to fish, if ever possible. Since there's nothing in the way of currency around here, best he can do is try to be self-sufficient. ]

Boutique

[If you enter this space today, you'll find one (1) Kaoru Hitachiin sitting on the floor with a sketchpad in his lap, a pencil in his hand, and scraps of fabric spread around him in a circle. He doesn't bother to move out of the way and he doesn't look up from what he's doing, but once he's aware he isn't alone, he lifts his free hand to point at a rack of clothing before him.]

It's a perfect fit. [What?]

Library

[You can also find him back in the library and roaming the upper floor today, fingers running along the spines of the books. He frowns to himself and he turns to whomever is nearby.]

Should we be worried there are no reference books for this place?

Fire

[Ah. The gates are down and against his better judgment Kaoru wanders out on the paths, eventually making his way north and to the desert. He thinks he should turn back, but for some reason something encourages him to continue on. Maybe it's a void in the back of his head, or maybe it's the thrumming in his veins like adrenaline. It's hard to say, but as he steps over the rocks and enters the area he finds himself relaxing just a little.

As he approaches the large volcano, he folds his arms over his chest and looks upward.]

Have you been to any of the other paths? [This is to whomever is closest.] I wonder what they have in place of a volcano.

i. farmlands
[ There are so many new places to explore, but where is Minato? He spends quite a lot of time at the farm— specifically the orchard- more specifically, the apple orchard, with a set of knives in his hands and instead of shaking trees to dislodge the fruit, his chosen method of apple picking is to throw knives in hopes that he's able to cut through the thin 1 mm stem of the apple. It sort of works. He has three apples in a basket next to his feet. But he also has five knives stuck in the tree that he just sort of stares at.

Maybe... Okay. No choice but to try to climb this, or if he sees somebody particularly strong or tall or dumb, he silently flags them down for help. ]

ii. fire
[ Minato doesn't spend much time here. He has his little bucket of apples, one of which is stuck to the end of a knife, and a coffee mug filled with pond water. He leans over a little stream of lava, wiping the sweat off his face with his sleeve, before sticking the knife apple into the lava. ]

One... two...

[ It gets pulled out, and doused with nasty pond water. ]

iii. water
[ It's a bit chilly over here, but a relief compared to the lava hell that was his previous haunt. Minato rolls his pants up to his knees, wading into the water as far as he can without getting his pants wet.

He keeps his hands in his pockets, otherwise, looking around and squinting hard at... something...

Frowning a little, he stoops, and one might catch the sight of that coffee mug being dipped into the water. And then brought to his lips. ]

iv. earth
[ Sorry, the first few meters of the cave is dark, but it should be fine since the mouth opens up to the sunlight outdoors. One of the torches has been removed, and Minato carries it with him to look around the cave, wandering from crystal to crystal.

In his hand, is a rusty nail, one pulled out of his nailbat. Every crystal he comes across, he runs the nail over the edge or point, inspects it closely, shakes his head and moves onto the next one. ]

v. air
[ Cough, wheeeeeze.

Minato, for all his nights after nights spent climbing stairs, never had to go mountain climbing for so long and on a path so steep. He doesn't even make it all the way up to the peak, he's just lying somewhere halfway up, on flat on his back and staring up at the sky. ]

[Toki looks where he's pointing, but it appears to be at nothing but a clothing rack. It fits in the space provided, maybe not perfectly, but he couldn't know without measuring. Perhaps Kaoru has already done that.]

Okay~!

[He shrugs and steps around Kaoru to look for shoes.]

shess walks over, a quizzical look on his face. also, he found his tablet! hurrah.]

Ah, nothing important. Is that what you were looking for?

[ He ignores Shess' question for a moment, to look at the tablet in his hands. He'll get back to it later. Fancy, fancy... ]

Do you get wifi on that?

[nonbelligerent]

[he nods at the first question. the second, though...]

I don't think so.

[what's wifi. does it even exist in canon, we just don't know.]

[ Disappointing... He misses internet. ]

Any games on it?

[Toki why are you like this? But Kaoru glances up and recognizes him as the guy who just, like, you know. Wandered away and never came back. He pauses in his work and watches him approach the shoe rack instead.]

No matter what you pick up it fits somehow. [Which doesn't make any logical sense.] Did you ever find a shovel?

[ He shakes his head, also somewhat apologetic. ]

Nothing to be sorry about. Actually- I have a message for you.

[nonbelligerent]

[he tilts his head. what is it?]

[ He opens his mouth, and meows.

Or attempts to, anyways. It apparently doesn't sound much like a meow, something more like a bark or a growl, or whatever a fox sounds like. A weird sound. ]

...Did you get that?
