week zero: mingle

Week Zero
32 in Competition

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

I brought more than one. There's nothing to worry about.

[But he looks pretty pleased that she's taken one.

And not startled at all that she's a talking hyena.]

[Nom. Grim Eyes doesn't seem really that pleased about sardines, but hey. She can appreciate the gesture]

Why sardines, though. There have to be bigger and better fishes.

[Her immediate thought is that Valvatorez simply is uncapable of catching something better somewhere else, so instead he had to stick to old sardines caught who knows where. Poor guy]

[He looks almost- no, he definitely looks offended!]

Sardines are an excellent fish! They're at the very bottom of the oceanic food chain! That means they contain much less mercury than any fish that would be above them! They're high in nutrients like calcium, potassium and phosphorus!

I don't even know what half of those so-called nutrients are.

[What is a mercury, too]

I understand why you'd go for the bottom of the food chain, but surely you also go for other food too, right? Or do you live from just sardines?

You've never heard of them? Don't you perform fish science?

I'll eat various sweets, but the sardines are more effective for nutrients.

I sure don't. I leave the science to other hyenas.

[She hasn't even bothered to find out how things work, just that they do. She's practical like that]

Wow. If you run out of sardines it'll be hard for you to find food. I sure haven't seen sweets anywhere.

[Apparently she's unaware of the kitchen's quirks. But yeah, she almost feels bad for Valvatorez]

I see...

If it comes to that there is an ocean to the south. I can fish for the food I need.

...I'll help you whenever you want. [Maybe it's out of solidarity because she feels bad Valvatorez only has sardines as his only food for the time being, but yeah. She's offering] Never fished out of the sea, but it shouldn't be too different from a river.

[Adapting the fishing methods she knows to the sea can't be too difficult, she figures. She's resourceful enough to think of something]

I'll be sure to keep that in mind. My steward was the one who did most of the fishing at home.

[Though that's more because Fenrich did things without asking Val about anything than Valvatorez not being able to fish for himself.]

Perhaps we can find a net.

If there's none then we just have to make one. It's not that difficult, it just takes some time. Won't be a problem.

There's plenty of clothing to work with. Can you sew?
liversandhyenas: 29 (Default)

[personal profile] liversandhyenas 2019-06-05 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, as long as I don't have to make clothes.

[She can sew, but not for making outfits. Any hunter worth their salt has to be able to fix and make some stuff with thread and needles, though]

The rest better not mind a lot of clothing will go missing and turned into a net or two.

The boutique has more than enough. I'm not sure they'll even notice.
