On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

[ Minato looks up— closes his eyes, opens them again- and shrugs one shoulder apologetically. ]

Sorry. If I rolled off here, I'd accidentally knock somebody over, huh?

[ Is the mountain steep enough to literally roll down the slope? It sure feels like it ]

Pretty much. Not that I think many will try to climb the mountain.

[Who climbs mountains for fun? Nobody, really. She doesn't think anyone would come all the way up here if they can avoid it]

Why are you here, though?

[compendiem]

Same reason you are... I'd like to think, but maybe not.

[ He sits up, slowly so he doesn't immediately topple off the cliffside, and stares out into the wide expanse beside him. ]

I saw the mountain, and I got curious what's up here. There's a trail, after all.

[ There's probably nothing up there, but in the end, it's just stupid human insatiable curiosity and that sort of thing will always be his downfall. ]

[liversandhyenas]

I mean, I'm here because nothing was stopping me. This mountain was here, so why not to climb it.

[And she has nothing better to do. She sure likes the places outside the village more than the village itself. Still, it was a rather human feeling, many would say]

And here I thought most of you would prefer to stick to the village. I don't like that place, but I thought you humans would figure it's better than being out there.

[She always had the impression humans preferred to stay indoors or in their towns. She doesn't interact much with them in friendly settings, yeah]

[ Honestly, given the choice, Minato would happily stay in his room and never leave it until this entire situation sorts itself out, but he's also rooming with a bird who believes Minato will tears his wings apart at any given moment, so he's trying to be out and about as much as he can. ]

Doing something because it's there to be done is a great reason for anything. You don't like the village, though? Is it too quiet?

[liversandhyenas]

It's too...unfamiliar. I hae seen villages like it before, but I have never been in them.

The village makes me feel out of place.

[Admitting it makes her feel kind of vulnerable]

[compendiem]

[ It's something of the opposite for Minato, who feels out of place in a village like this because he's used to so much more- busy streets and heavy traffic, graffiti and litter everywhere, chatter and howling dogs and bright city lights late into the night. ]

Maybe we can figure out a way to make it more comfortable. What was your home like?

[liversandhyenas]

Full of hyenas, for one. [Which is like 75% of why she feels out of place] That aside, there's this big table in the middle of the place, full of food and stuff. It's pretty much where we see each other everyday.

Hard for this place to feel like a real village when there's nothing like that.

[They're a bunch of strangers who are way too different to truly be a community]

What about you? Got any bright ideas to make it closer to your home?

[compendiem]

[ Minato's knowledge of hyenas is limited to like... Disney's Simba, so that's the sort of environment he's imagining here, but with a large table overpiled with meat and fruit and whatever. ]

...I think if it's a communal meal space, we can do that. It'd be nice to share meals together all in one place like that. [ especially if the 2-3 people who actually can cook are kind enough to cook for the whole family, at least Minato will be a constant presence. ]

As for me... we don't really eat together, where I used to live, but we also had a space where everybody came together at the end of the day. It was nice, just to see everybody.

[liversandhyenas]

[Looks like having a space to see each other is the central point of a routine back home. Unfortunately...]

Too bad we're all too different to really bother doing something like that.

[She can't say she imagines something like this happening, ever]

[compendiem]

[ Minato hums a softly, glancing over at her. ]

Are we really so different?

[ He asks, a weak, tired looking kid on the verge of collapse, and a self-reported hyena. But at the same time, he's used to seeing all manners of monsters and beasts who look at him and say "we are the same, you and me," and he believes it. ]

Getting everybody together might be difficult at first, but we can start small... Why don't you and I have dinner together?

[liversandhyenas]

...really?

[She didn't expect that. She tilts her head a little, considering it.

.......

...sure, why not?]

Fine. Let's give that a try and see how it goes.

[Sure says a lot she's willing to try, really]

[compendiem]

Really. [ And really, Minato looks rather pleased to have somebody to eat with— to make future plans with- assuming they make it up and down this mountain in time for dinner. ]

What do you want to eat? I'm... learning how to cook.

[liversandhyenas]

Pretty much anything that isn't rice. I had enough rice for a lifetime not too long ago.

[Day after day after day with rice three times a day. It was tiring]

[compendiem]

[ Minato likes rice. And noodles, and bread. Carbs. Minato likes carbs. But he's somewhat surprised to hear that a hyena eats rice, when he expected a meat-based diet, the same way he had expected Valvatorez to burn up in the sunlight but he didn't do that either. ]

Vally is teaching me how to fish, so if that sounds alright, I'll grill up a couple of those?

[liversandhyenas]

[Hey, it sure wasn't her idea, haha. But yeah, hyenas are omnivores. They just are really into meat]

...you already know how to clean a fish?

[There comes Grim Eyes, already muscling her way into what other people do]

[compendiem]

...I can learn how to clean a fish.

[ He knows enough to scrape off as much of the scales as he can, but then he was just going to throw the entire fish onto a pan, sear both sides, and call it done. ]

[liversandhyenas]

You will learn, that's right. Better be ready to get your hands dirty.

[She's willing to teach, yeah. She's just pretty used to taking charge of stuff when she can.

Besides, she can appreciate someone willing to learn]

[ Minato laughs, a silent huff of breath more than a laugh, because he's gotten his hands dirty plenty of times, figuratively and literally, over more complicated things than gutting fish. ]

I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I want us to share a nice meal. So, whatever it takes.
