week zero: mingle

Week Zero
32 in Competition

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

The citadel was well-defended. I asked for it to be that way. [ She had to protect herself someway. ]

Otherwise, I did my best to make as many improvements to the surrounding lands as I could. As the new ruler, I felt that it was my duty to do so.

What kind of ruler are you hoping to be?
forefall: (where the torches of evening kindle a da)

[personal profile] forefall 2019-06-04 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
A good one.

[ Isn't that what you should be? ]

I want to look out for those under me, to make life better for everyone— I wish for their peace and happiness. It's not easy, but I'm trying my best.

That's a very noble aspiration, then.
forefall: (when I see you pass by)

[personal profile] forefall 2019-06-05 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ She smiles. ]

It wouldn't be a very good aspiration if it weren't at least a little noble. I'm not the type to be satisfied so easily in that respect, but at the very least, I didn't want to be as terrible and negligent as the previous ruler.

What were they like?
forefall: (when I study)

[personal profile] forefall 2019-06-05 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Tyrants who only cared about what they wanted and not at all for their subjects. They let the lands go to ruin and let the monsters roam anywhere, as long as it wasn't anywhere near their castles.

[ Her disgust cools and hardens her voice, and like a switch was flipped, any warmth disappears to make way for her disdain. ]
nonbelligerent: (your seven years. 6-1)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-05 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That's unfortunate.

And then you took over?
forefall: (that the ceiling deadens)

[personal profile] forefall 2019-06-06 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. My sisters and I fought to overthrow them.
nonbelligerent: (lies for you. 12-1)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-06 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That must've been difficult.
forefall: (turning here and there)

[personal profile] forefall 2019-06-07 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
Most noble causes are, but we persevered. That was the past, the present is something different.

[ Like getting kidnapped to fix the universe or something. ]

Things do change with time. May your reign be very different from theirs.
forefall: (that the ceiling deadens)

[personal profile] forefall 2019-06-08 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so. I refuse to be as negligent as the past lords. I'd be ashamed if I weren't different.
nonbelligerent: (lies for you. 12-1)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-09 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[he nods.]

Are you and your sisters close, then? To have worked together like that.
forefall: (pours out confusedly)

[personal profile] forefall 2019-06-09 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There's a moment's hesitation before she answers. ]

Yes. I miss the times when we all lived together.
nonbelligerent: (the night it rained fire. 20-1)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-10 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Understandable. Even if the change is for the better, it can be easy to long for times past.
forefall: (you scatter perfumes)

[personal profile] forefall 2019-06-10 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She looks at him more closely. ]

Is there something you long for?
nonbelligerent: (the night it rained fire. 19-2)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-12 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
... Well, not particularly.
forefall: (that you are a semblance)

[personal profile] forefall 2019-06-12 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
... I don't think that's nothing, but I won't press it.
