week zero: mingle

Week Zero
32 in Competition

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.

The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.

When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.

Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.

In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.

Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?

Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

[he pauses.]

All right.

[no promises that it's actually 32% faster, but when he throws the next knife, it's at least in a straight line?]

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-06-04 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ Minato can't tell 32% from 1000%, seeing as it goes directly towards his face and he only has reflex to work off of—- he catches the knife, same clapping method as before, but has to lean back to keep it from taking off his nose this time.

...He lowers his hand and says, somewhat distractedly ]

If I'm juggling, I can't use both hands, can I? This way is no good.

[ What is he practicing for... ]

To be honest, I'm not sure if catching knives like this really has anything to do with juggling. You may be better off practicing actual juggling. That way, you can learn to consistently catch the hilt.

... Perhaps with pens? Pretend one end is the blade and the other is the hilt.

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-06-04 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ That is such a judgey icon, I'm losing it

But Shess does have a point; with a pen, he can toss it up and down himself and start off as slow and careful as he needs to, instead of relying on danger to keep his senses sharp and the ultimatum of "catch this or die"

One problem: ]

Do you know where I could find pens?

[ The next closest thing he can think of with two ends is the nails out of his nailbat. ]
nonbelligerent: (lies for you. 1-5)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-04 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
[he is definitely judging a little.]

Yes. Milla showed me where to find writing materials in the library.

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-06-04 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Minato, but also me, internally: we have a library??? ]

...I guess I shouldn't be too greedy with the apples. We can stop for today. If you have some time, maybe you can show me the [ library ] writing materials?
nonbelligerent: (lies for you. 1-6)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-04 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[education doesn't stop just because you're dead, minato!!]

Yes, of course.

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-06-04 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Education stopped the moment Minato maxed out his intelligence and proceeded to sleep through class and do no homework.

Minato smiles gratefully, and brings the basket of apples over so he can collect all his things together- both apples and knives. ]

Do you want one? As thanks for your help.

[ An apple or a knife, he doesn't specify which, just holds up the basket as a whole. ]
nonbelligerent: (lies for you. 1-5)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-04 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[he'll take an apple because he's not questionable, maybe. thanks!]

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-06-04 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Maybe. But it's an apple Shess picked out himself, so he can have what he wants. Minato takes a detour to drop things off at his house (no food in the library, etc, and maybe knives apply too) before he follows Shess to go find pens. ]
nonbelligerent: (lies for you. 12-3)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-04 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[and away they go!]

You're roommates with Kazuaki?

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-06-04 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, yeah. He thinks I'm a delinquent.

[ he's not wrong. ]
nonbelligerent: (the night it rained fire. 19-3)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-04 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He was rather terrified of your bat.

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-06-04 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
...yeah. I've put it away for now, though, so he can at least rest easier at night.
nonbelligerent: (lies for you. 12-1)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-04 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you getting along, at least?

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-06-04 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to think so... but it's a little hard. I wish I could do more to assure him of things, mostly.

[ First step was to get rid of the nailbat, but he couldn't bring himself to do that, not entirely. ]

You two get along?
nonbelligerent: (lies for you. 1-5)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-04 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to think we do, though he did spend the entirety of the conversation hiding under his blanket.

[personal profile] compendiem 2019-06-04 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Kazuaki.... ]

Really... Well. That's one of the best places for conversations. You feel nice and warm and comfortable, while talking to someone. I do it too.
nonbelligerent: (the night it rained fire. 19-3)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-04 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I hope that's how he felt.

[it probably was not.]
