week zero: mingle
Week Zero

On Monday morning, the sun rises on the sleepy village, and when the first ray of light touches the gates at each corner of the village, the previously tightly sealed doors open.
The barriers around the village fall, and leave it entirely open. Each cardinal direction will have a path exiting the village, taking the curious explorers who follow it on an adventure to new territories to be explored. They’ll find that each location that they arrive in appears to be associated with one of the elements. As the Signs had explained the day before, each of the participants in the game possesses an elemental assignment, whether they are aware of it or not.
When they approach the elemental areas, they’ll find themselves more in tune with their new powerset, as if the location invites them to take them out for a spin. The new areas appear to be perfect for training and learning how to use the new skills, or maybe if you’re curious you can discover which of those listed powers you’ve been granted.
Just try not to hurt yourself while you’re out there.
In addition, it seems now that more pieces of the core are being revealed, the river that runs through the village will begin to be dotted with small lanterns floating on the water. Some of them seem to be holding small notes. Try as you might to grab one, they’ll always just barely float out of reach.
Perhaps try sending one yourself and see what results you might get?
Occasionally in the village, you might hear the sound of drums and flutes - is that festival music? - though no matter how you search, you can’t find the source… yet.

Welcome to your tutorial week mingle log! Please see all the links within the log to check out the new updates. In addition, your status page has been updated. In case you missed it, please report all item theft to this top-level where all comments are screened. Private conversations are also open and should be reported under the Week 0 top-level.
A mini-event will also be posted on Wednesday, June 5th, so please keep an eye out for that!

Simply, he raises one arm and extends it out in Kara's direction. And then he curls the nailed fingers, beckoning.
Show him what you've got?]
no subject
Then he tosses it back. Turns out, despite needing an attitude adjustment, he's kind of a good sport?
He'll come at you when you're ready, Hisoka. ]

Honestly, he doesn't prefer a lot of sharp and pointies, but without his nen, he really has no choice to have a little fun. His slender fingers catch the dagger; however, he holds it underhanded and folds the flat of the blade against his wrist and arm. One foot steps forward for a better stance.
He's ready.]

If the maneuverability and sword bother him, Hisoka doesn't show it. He's an acrobat, and once Kara makes the swing, he drops his upper half over backward by the waist, painfully unnatural, Number One Limbo Winner, until the sword vibrates by. The sound is music.
It had been so close? Won. Der. Ful.
But he quickly twists around to come back up. He doesn't try to use the dagger at all, not really. His fist tightens around the hilt; he steps forward and tries to punch Kara in the stomach during the brief opening he's got. It won't bother him if it's dodged.
Though if it hits, the muscles aren't only for show. He packs a pretty nasty hit.]
no subject
Missing the target isn't a problem. It happens. He's not really aiming to kill, anyway, but he has to sidestep to regain his balance, which allows the punch to graze his side before Ookurikara can twist away. That's fine, too. It means this guy might make for a decent opponent, after all.
He doesn't wait long to go on the offensive again - as soon as his footing is sure, Ookurikara steps forward into a jab. ]

They trade swipes. The sword gets him a little on the other side when he dodges agily out of the way. It bleeds, yet doesn't appear to bother him at all.
He springs up to stand on the extended blade. There's no way he'd be able to balance without nen, no matter how strong Kara may be, so he quickly steps forward on the hilt and Kara's hand, and then up onto Kara's shoulder very fluidly all at once.
And then he somersaults off. But doesn't? attack from behind? He just lands facing Kara again.]

Ookurikara is so startled by someone landing on his blade that all he can do is stumble forward as the sudden weight throws him wildly off balance. Before he really understands what just happened, he's landing hard on the stone platform, sword clattering to the ground next to him.
But he's trained to expect the unexpected in battle, so it's only a second before he's reaching for it again. Rolling so he's kneeling with one foot on the ground, Ookurikara holds his sword defensively as he rises slowly, waiting for Hisoka to make the next move. ]
no subject
Ah, that's it... That look. That's the look I like the most. I'm finally starting to get excited.
[Slowly, he begins walking toward Kara, pace slow and even. He's in no hurry. He's smiling? May or may not be bad news. He's just... walking, nothing raised, earrings jingling.
But he isn't stopping, so either Kara is going to have to attack before he gets close enough, or run away...]
no subject
Once he's got both feet on the ground, he only waits a moment before deciding that Hisoka isn't taking the initiative. He doesn't mind taking it himself, then - so he dashes forward, smoothly transitioningredients from that defensive posture to an upward slash. ]
no subject
Hisoka keeps walking right up until Kara decides to attack instead. A smile curves his lips. Either way would have maybe entertained him, but there's something terribly delicious about the determination.
This time, he dodges without a whole lot of extra, but he still doesn't dive in to attack back? Kara can keep coming, and he'll keep dodging. He's kind of trolling probably.]
no subject
He immediately follows with a combination of three strikes, one right after the other. Ookurikara is known among the other swords for being ruthless to his foes on the battlefield and in sparring, and it shows in the efficiency with which he flows from one attack to the next. For what he lacks in grace, he can make up for in power and sheer determination.
That is, unless not a single one of his attacks will connect. But they're not even being deflected, and that realization brings a surge of annoyance with it. He didn't come here, didn't agree to this fight just to be played with. It's time to try a new tactic - he goes for the arm holding the dagger, but it's a feint. His blade will turn when Ookurikara manages to get close enough, with the point going right for Hisoka's neck.
He's also known for not having any restraint. Just for the record. ]
no subject
[The frustration is what brings out the things Hisoka loves most. Desperation and intent. Something a little harder than merely playing around, something a little more like life and death without quite getting there.
The feint tricks him because despite being very skilled, he isn't perfect. He realizes at the last second when the blade is coming for his neck. There isn't very much time to move, so he doesn't except to narrowly dodge.
It cuts a good, clean slice at the backside of the neck. The dagger, however, is turned around and pointed at Kara's chest, angled slightly upward.]
Very good.
no subject
...Well, it doesn't matter. After this attack lands, Ookurikara stops, holding this stance with the point of his blade at Hisoka's throat. Only his eyes move to acknowledge the dagger pointed at his own chest. He's been in tighter spots before, though he usually has backup from the rest of his expedition team.
A stalemate, then? His eyes go back to meet Hisoka's.
No.
Ookurikara doesn't know when to quit, so he's going to try knocking the dagger out of the way with the end of his sword's hilt, and jump back out of the dagger's range. there's no plan for follow up attacks just yet, so if he gets away, he'll settle back into a defensive stance. ]
no subject
his foot slides out to catch the hilt before it hits the ground, balancing it briefly before tossing it back up and catching it again. He now has three nice nicks: two from Kara and, surprisingly, a third along the right shoulder now that Kara is closer. He was already playing with a bad card hand apparently.]
Now that I'm excited. Let me return the favor.
[He throws the dagger without pomp or circumstance, but takes off immediately after. If and when Kara blocks, he better be ready for Hisoka to get in his personal space with some martial arts.]
no subject
That is to say, he's definitely not ready because he's a swordsman, not a martial artist, you fiend.
He hastily retreats, struggling to put enough distance between the two of them - Ookurikara is not a tantou, he can't use his sword properly when his foe is this close. He'll have to resort to using the flat of the blade and its sheath to block any attacks, while he tries to hold his ground. ]
no subject
He keeps going without trying to trip Kara up, so clearly his plan isn't to win necessarily--yet--but to have fun. Draw it out, make Kara squirm. See what Kara will do when desperate...?]
no subject
It's no surprise then, even to Ookurikara, that some of these blows hit. Hisoka may not be trying to trip him up, but the onslaught is enough that he does finally stumble - and maybe he can use this? He twists into a sidestep as soon as his footing is sure, aiming to both regain some distance and to get behind Hisoka to attempt another strike of his own. ]
no subject
Kara has a very good sword, but it's just not quite long enough...
He does turn to face Kara again, but there is no ready stance, no raised arms. He puts one hand on his hip.] If I keep going, I'll really have to ruin you...
But I want to save you and savor you for another time. ♥ I hope you don't mind if I go slow with you.
no subject
Eyes narrowed, Ookurikara straightens but doesn't relax completely. His sword is still held before him, still ready for any sudden movements. He'd be lying to say he wasn't starting to feel winded, though. He's strong, but he doesn't have the kind of stamina to keep going for much longer - not against a martial artist, at least. If he had his way, they'd keep going, but...
What is this guy even saying? Ookurikara is more than a little offended that anyone thinks they can "ruin" him, but the rest of it...? ]
If you want to play games, you can find someone else.
[ He's still annoyed by all that dodging, honestly. Stop messing around already. ]
no subject
[He's done, just like that. Hisoka does what he wants? He's living his best life.] Let's not use up the fun in one go, though, hm? We may be here for a while. [He'll be bored without entertainment.]
I'll come see you again. I have something to ask you.
no subject
What?
[ Don't beat around the bush - just ask. ]
no subject
But he wants to have fun with Kara longer! So! Compromise.
The same hand gives Kara a sort of flicked wave, and he turns to leave.] See you soon. ♣
