week one: trial

Week One: Trial
27 in Competition

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.

The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with a glass box perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Tokidoki, Nana, and Junna's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.

Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. Sol remains quiet, looking over to Lune to allow them to speak first.

"Even if it is a rather daunting task ahead of you, I hope that each of you will not lose hope. One step at a time, one step at a time. It is not hopeless."

When they finish, Sol sits up a little taller in their seat to address everyone.

"I'm only going to say this once. I know it's not an ideal situation, but...the votes count, and the universe only gives one warning. Can we try not to repeat last week?" There's a pause. "You have nine hours. Let's start."

✩★✩

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the second trial!

We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.

As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.

Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

Air, Water, and Earth...

[ ... ]

So if poison was used, there's a chance it was an Water-aligned killer, right?
leaberator: (... what the hell is rent)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there is.

[ powers are bad, actually? ]

We'll be able to know more once we know what powers were used that night, I think.

It'd be good if we had more to go off of by then. Rather than waiting around for that moment. Confirming if Junna was really poisoned might be a good starting point.
leaberator: (my god they were roommates)

It might help if we had a doctor in this place.

[ like. he doesn't know the signs of poison at all. it's? evil purple bubbles? this is jrpg logic ]

I haven't reached poisoning yet in the medical books...

[ she looks disappointed ]

Don't sweat it. It's a lotta ground to cover.

I wonder if there are medical books in the library we could ask to use. If one describes the signs and symptoms of poisoning, we could reference it against Junna's body and see if anything matches.

I checked what symptoms I know of [and dana made fun of me] but didn't find anything. However, I'm also no expert.

It might be worth checking alongside a book. Not to discredit what you did look for, but to plug in any gaps there may be.

[ dana pls ]
leaberator: (the fuck? the fuck is in the air)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
There are some. I guess the issue is if we'd be allowed to have them or not?

[ someone else ask i've harassed lune twice already ]

We won't know until we ask.

[ euuurgh ]

A colleague of mine was fond of poisons. The signs and symptoms can vary a lot, depending on what kind was used.

Unfortunately, though, medicine and poisons in general were more his wheelhouse than mine. I could try looking through the books as well to supplement any general knowledge, but...

Anything you might be able to remember would help. If we're going to start narrowing things down, we have to use all our resources.

Constricted or dilated pupils [ yeah, either or, so weirdness in pupil response is more accurate probably ], arrhythmias, salivation-- or the lack thereof, I know some can dry out the victim's mouth and skin instead-- confusion and drowsiness are some of the ones I remember off the top of my head.

[ ... and hadn't Junna seemed dizzy, in the dream? ]

Like I said, varied. Obviously some of these aren't really something you can easily check postmortem, but... It might be best not to check for specific signs of poisoning and instead check for odd things that together could possibly indicate a particular poison instead.

[ or maybe we'll get lucky and someone will find poison somewhere. ]

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-15 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right in that dying would've affected her pupils regardless, so I didn't check for that. I can confirm there was no indication of salivation or dry skin.

[personal profile] autocatalysis 2019-06-15 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you probably know about as much as I do.

[ unfortunately. f for subd not having any doctors... or crime scene investigation roombas... ]

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm.

So, dizziness is one symptom - maybe from confusion and drowsiness, if the visions we all had are accurate. I can always go back and check if there was pupil dilation, if it'd help.

The more symptoms we know, the easier it might be to narrow down a poison.
coastal: (✧ that's strange)

[personal profile] coastal 2019-06-15 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
So in order to make the Nana and Junna theory viable, Nana would have to be water-aligned in order to poison her - or it depends on if we find anything poisonous in the kitchen.
stillstands: (108)

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't want to imagine Nana hurting anyone, but... yes. If we can confirm her alignment, we can confirm or dismiss this theory. There are other water based skills that could have been used, after all.

[ Specifically one to make turn invisible. ]
