week one: trial

Week One: Trial
27 in Competition

It may be difficult to sleep with the light shining so brightly throughout the night, but the participants can rest easy knowing they will not be plagued by unwanted, disturbing dreams. Early the next day, a bell chimes and all will feel compelled to enter the main meeting hall.

The hall looks mostly the same as it always has, the two thrones for Lune and Sol at the head of the room and scrolls hanging from the walls. The metal box sits on a table near the front, along with a glass box perfectly centered before the benches in the room. Now that the trial is in session, Tokidoki, Nana, and Junna's coffins are open, and their bodies will be available for examination.

Lune and Sol are seated in their thrones, patiently waiting for the last participant to settle. Sol remains quiet, looking over to Lune to allow them to speak first.

"Even if it is a rather daunting task ahead of you, I hope that each of you will not lose hope. One step at a time, one step at a time. It is not hopeless."

When they finish, Sol sits up a little taller in their seat to address everyone.

"I'm only going to say this once. I know it's not an ideal situation, but...the votes count, and the universe only gives one warning. Can we try not to repeat last week?" There's a pause. "You have nine hours. Let's start."

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the second trial!

We'll go over a few notes briefly as we will be playing this trial a bit differently than other games.

As noted, there was no investigation period on Friday. However, today participants will have the chance to investigate areas in the game setting as they see fit! This can be done by providing the name of the location you want to visit to the host header comment. To help with the ease of the trial and for IC mechanics, only one location may be visited at a time. In addition, these locations can be manipulated and adjusted upon request to test theories and solve puzzles, so please feel free to ask if you're searching for clues! Your host will also be accompanying you on these visits.

Most importantly, before the trial is over, please place your character's vote over on the voting page. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST, and will serve as our activity check for the week, so please be sure you get your vote in before it ends unless you have contacted us previously.

If you have any questions at any time, please let do us know by pinging us on Discord! Dana and Ty will be in the chat and available for all questions. Thank you, and have fun!

[ anyway: ]

I just checked with Lune. The victims belonged to Air, Water and Earth.

[ soooo ]

My theory is still that an air user crushed that guy up with magic. So maybe the air user was the one corrupted.

Unless they just killed all on their own.
leaberator: (hang out or... something...)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd need to be pretty good at magic to crush someone's bones with just air.

[ why does he sound like he knows from experience. ]

[ she doesn't seem too bothered by her theory being flawed. she tried! ]

Maybe they're good. But maybe not.

can someone push with wind power off a cliff?
leaberator: (and they were roommates)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably, but the bruise is consistent, right? Being thrown off a cliff, you'd have way more than just the one big bruise.

[ that's true. giving a nod.

okay so what could cause that... ]

Air, Water, and Earth...

[ ... ]

So if poison was used, there's a chance it was an Water-aligned killer, right?
leaberator: (... what the hell is rent)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there is.

[ powers are bad, actually? ]

We'll be able to know more once we know what powers were used that night, I think.

It'd be good if we had more to go off of by then. Rather than waiting around for that moment. Confirming if Junna was really poisoned might be a good starting point.
leaberator: (my god they were roommates)

[personal profile] leaberator 2019-06-15 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It might help if we had a doctor in this place.

[ like. he doesn't know the signs of poison at all. it's? evil purple bubbles? this is jrpg logic ]

I haven't reached poisoning yet in the medical books...

[ she looks disappointed ]

[ pats her head ]

Don't sweat it. It's a lotta ground to cover.

I wonder if there are medical books in the library we could ask to use. If one describes the signs and symptoms of poisoning, we could reference it against Junna's body and see if anything matches.

So in order to make the Nana and Junna theory viable, Nana would have to be water-aligned in order to poison her - or it depends on if we find anything poisonous in the kitchen.

[personal profile] stillstands 2019-06-15 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't want to imagine Nana hurting anyone, but... yes. If we can confirm her alignment, we can confirm or dismiss this theory. There are other water based skills that could have been used, after all.

[ Specifically one to make turn invisible. ]

Didn't her partner say she was fire-aligned? Or rather, that she burned herself.

Lightning can do that too.

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-15 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The burn likely came from getting too close to fire, from what Nana told me back then. In that case, she may have been practicing water abilities on it.

It looked like it came from an open flame, so that should be it.
nonbelligerent: (lies for you. 12-1)

[personal profile] nonbelligerent 2019-06-15 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
In that case, Nana was likely water-aligned. She was apparently practicing her element and got burned somehow. She told me, "it turns out getting close to fire is an unwise idea, no matter what your abilities are."
whitewalls: (sunrise)

[personal profile] whitewalls 2019-06-15 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Then... she was practicing putting out a fire?
whitewalls: (calendar girl who is lost to the world)

[personal profile] whitewalls 2019-06-15 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll make sense... using your power on an element that's considered the opposite of it is a smart way to practice.
